I'm so exicted that the new PS3 slim has come out because it has lowered the price of the fat PS3's. My question is would you recomend buying one of the old PS3's over one of the new Slim PS3's. The main reason I thought it would be better to get one of the old ones is that the bugs have been worked out of it and the slim version to me seem like it would have over heating issues. I was just wondering what everyone's opinion is on this. I mean getting a 160gb PS3 with Drakes Unfortune seems like a good deal to me at the new lower price.

I don't think you can go wrong either way because the failer-rate for the PS3 over-all is pretty low.

As of now is pretty low but now they are using parts that are a lot cheaper.

I still prefer my original PS3, but if slim will not have any problems and wont overheat cuz it smaller an have less space inside, then i will buy it for sure, when my PS3 will break. :) But i don't think my PS3 will break, so no slim for me for a long long time. :)

Now Playing:

(PS3): Folklore, MGS4, Killzon 2. (PSP): Final Fantasy Dissidia DEMO. (Xbox 360): Nothing. (PC): Nothing.

AbyssD

I'm not too sure if they are not going to have any problem, but remember they are using cheaper parts which means less reliability. Remember the cell proccesor is a have 7 cores even if it's smaller it will heat just like a laptop computer with dual cores. I'd still remember hearing a lot of people saying the PS2 slim was less reliable than the original and that was a console with only one core so i won't be surprise hearing a lot of people saying that there consoles are dying or having a lot of problems and to make things even worse there was a report on 1UP.com saying the Sony is using parts made in Taiwan for the Slim model.

why would you buy this over the slim?deadly_shuriken
Dude a lot of people don't understand something, they have lowered the price to eliminate the current model but the new slim is using cheaper parts of less quality. It's like what they did with the ps2 slim, then everyone began to care about reliability. The current model are gonna be more reliable than the slim.

I'm thinking it will be $100 cheaper and have backwards compatibility with the PS2.

RawDeal_basic
Ha ha this is the most funny part of people who don't have a PS3 yet, they want it to cost a lot less but at the same time they want it with all the features and backward compatibility with PS2. I really don't understand people.

I think that sony will sell the slim model for 399 and sell the fat model for 299 i mean it would make sense they're trying to make more money.Gisoid
If the rumors are true they wont lower the the price of the current model to $299.99 cause the new model is the one that will be using cheaper components. The only way they can lower current models is if the stores want to get rid of the current inventory in stores.

I was wondering if it'll be cheaper does that mean it'll be a lil downgraded? if so, what would sony take out from the original models? like would it have no more built in wifi or smaller hdd or what? does anyone have an idea?johnlennon28
It doesn't need to be a downgraded Console, it can be cheaper if Sony change some of the internal components for lower quality cheaper ones which is what i am thinking. Oh and i forgot to mention that the worst part is the rumor of them being manufacture in Taiwan. If this is true then they are going to be a lot less reliable than the current model.

They do pack alot of LCD technology into those sets. They have a couple models that look great, but still under-perform compared to Panasonic's plasma for the same price.

Conjuration

The most important thing in a tv is the color gamut and response time and people are only looking at the big numbers of contrast and dynamic contrast that company's are promoting to grab the attention of the consumer. LCD is the way to go for gaming and if you have the money to pay for the highest picture and color quality a Samsung LED is the way to go.

[QUOTE="soulreaper-4"]

Sorry dude but you are recommending the wrong tv, the best for gaming are LCDs and current console games only runs at 60 frames per second so it doesn't matter if your tv is 12 Hz or 240 Hz it wont change anything in current games.

Conjuration

I'll try digging uo that lcd vd plams IGN article to show you. They do a real good job of breaking it down.
Here's a quick compare I found. http://reviews.cnet.com/4351-12658_7-6583301.html

You can't really argue about better colors and particle effects when compared. And plasmas do run much faster Hz for equally priced (vs even the highest priced)LCD sets.
There are things an average priced plasma can do that you'd need to pay alot extra for on an LCD, picture and color-wise.

People should not belief everything a web articles says but the truth is that LCDs are better for gaming i;m not talking about movies i'm talking about gaming. Plasmas doesn't looks that great in bright rooms and are more susceptible to burn-in images. The part that says that LCDs motion blur might deter the most sensitive gamers is not that right. For example if you have a tv with 120Hz and you're playing a game that runs at 60fps it will stay at 60fps that won't cause the game to lose motion blur. How many PS3 games we have that runs at 120fps or 240fps? ANYWAY TO EACH THEIR OWN:)

Sadly, Sony has the most expensive TV's out there.

Sony makes some great LCDs.

Panasonic makes my favourite plasma.

For gaming I recommend a plasma. They run faster (Hz), have richer colors, and are more capable of displaying the types of particle effects you'd get from a gaming console.
There are some really good looking LCDs out there I'll admit, but plasma seems to be the prefered choice not just ofmyself, but of critics as well.
