Played about 5 hours of it so far and enjoying it very much. Great reboot for the series.

I can think of quite a few modern games that are not mediocre/follow similar formulas. You should stop generalizing.Minishdriveby

I am speaking generally.

Dark Souls is one of the most non-formulaic modern games. So, I am capable of naming some too, as well as a few that are not mediocre. My point being, is that most are, it is the current video game industry fad.

Please help me pinpoint what it is about modern gen games that suck so bad. The video games of today all seem the same, so generic, all the same and nothing special about them.

What is it about the current video game formula? How would you describe it? We all know that the Call of Duty game formula that is running rampant throughout the history and having a severe effect on video games. But what is it about the formula of modern games that set them apart from games from long ago? Is it the QTEs, linearity, cutscene, flash over substance (graphics over gameplay and story), casualized/watered down/dumbed down, and gameplay and cutscene and more gameplay, etc.? Why are modern games all the same and so mediocre?

its obivious your snobish and bitter trait aint going to change. Hell your blaming other gamers for games you dont like I mean how low is that.

Rocker6

If you buy this game, you support it and so you are indeed a part of the problem.

What problem?

I don't see how buying a good game and supporting the developer is being a part of some problem... :?

the problem of modern sucky video games.

oh and how easy is this new Tomb Raider? Can you finish this game in two sittings? Has anyone said how much replay value and how easy this game is? I mean, modern video games, you have to make sure that it is easy enough for grandma to finish.

It sure is unrecognizable to me. Plus I have never seen this Lauren Craft character before. What has Tomb Raider been turned into? Answer: a stale formulaic modern video game trying to be a movie. Set piece gimmicks galore and QTEs everywhere.

[QUOTE="AdobeArtist"]

No. It's still an adventure game featuring a female archaeologist who comes from an aristocratic background, and still carries the platforming, exploration & puzzle solving themes the series has always been known for.

AdobeArtist

platforming

exploration

puzzle solving

adventure

archaologist (well, sorta)

Yes, you guessed it, Uncharted fits all this criteria! So that must mean that it and Tomb Raider are exactly the same! I guess you also think that the Indiana Jones and the Tomb Raider movies are exactly the same too.

The only drastic change in design is the combat, but then combat was also always a part of the TR games. And that aspect was horrid which did not age well over the 17 years, so it needed a revision the most.

But since you're stuck in the past you'll never understand this. You actually think the industry and the gaming community praises a series for starying exactly the same and rehashing a formula a dozen times.

AdobeArtist

So, now Tomb Raider is going to be stuck in the same rehashed modern gen formula from now on, since now it's like all the other stale generic games of the modern gen video game industry?

I miss Lara Croft already. Now, she was an icon, unlike this fugly wannabe Tomboy Raider in this new game.

you can dislike a change all you want. Noone is saying that you have to like it but the thing is your being a stuck up snob about it and making it so that your opinoin is some type of high platoe and is the will of gaming gods and all is wrong who go against it. Which is what is making you look like a big joke.

finalfantasy94

Aside from Nintendo (aside from the disappointing Skyward Sword and Metroid Other M), all my favorite video game franchises have been changed for the worse and ruined. Oh and can you believe that some people will say that modern Final Fantasy, Splinter Cell, Resident Evil, Ninja Gaiden (3), etc. is innovation and steps forward? The modern versions suck butt.

For the last 7 or so years I have become very bitter and hostile since all the game franchises I have loved have been modernized (modern gen video game formula, casual watered down junk so easy that babies and grandmas can finish them in one or two sittings.

Anyhow, I am tired of talking about how you have ruined this franchise and that it is no longer special or anything and is now generic like most of the other modern gen video games. You know my stance, so I think I might just leave it at that. I don't want to keep going on and on about it.

Oh and I also suppose that we have to like the changes or that makes us a troll, according to your faulty reasoning. We must be happy about the changes in Tomb Raider and shut up about it, yes? I suppose I should shut up about you guys killing off my favorite video game franchise of all time too (Final Fantasy) with FFXIII series, now that broke my heart that Final Fantasy is dead. So many of my once favorite series are dead like Resident Evil and Splinter Cell, and now Tomb Raider.

Know what happened to the really crappy game, DmC???? It was a huge stanky floppy bomb and it tanked so hard that it probably killed off the franchise. Well, that is what you get for changing things for the worse.

Here is a pic of Anakin Skywalke...errr, I mean Donte from Dont Buy mediocre Crap. I think Donte & Lauren Craft would make quite the lovely couple.

I am an anti-troll.

You and whoever elese who support the changes are trolls. Why? Because did you ever stop to think that perhaps you may be hurting Tomb Raider fans?

Not everyone are going to like your changes, and those Tomb Raider fans are still going to want Tomb Raider-like experiences.

Ruining video game series that people loved is way worse than me calling the video game industry out on it and supporters of these disgusting video game trends.

AdobeArtist

How can you be an anti-troll when you are a troll????

And you actually think a series can endure for 3 generations without changing?? Seriously you think being exactly the same as the 1996 game would be good for the title? I guess you have no concept of stagnation

No, mister moderator.

If you support the destruction of video game series that people have loved for over 15 years before this game, that makes you a troll, a troll moderator.

Let's say you love the game 'Hungry Hungry Hippos'. Now, let's say they stop making Hungry Hungry Hippos, but instead start making Hungry Hungry Hippo card games. Are you still going to love it? They're not the same thing. I mean, why would fans still love it for the same reasons, when those reasons are not there any longer?

Imagine if you love the Clone of Duty series and they stop making them as FPS, but they only make them as RTS or puzzle games. Are fans going to still love it for the same thing? (I hate Clone of Duty, just using it as an example)

And that is why you are all trolls and not me.

I knew that there were many troll moderators, especially on GameFaqs, but you have shown quite clearly how moderators can be severe trolls, because you bask in pleasure at the thought of ruining something for somebody else.

How can you be an anti-troll when you are a troll????

AdobeArtist

No, mod.

YOU are the troll.

But I thought that this game was going for realism, no? I thought this game was trying to be like a movie instead of a game?

MirkoS77

are you just saying stuff for the sake of it or what? it makes no sense. the grasping bit is abit silly she should be instantly dead. But at the same time its much closer than ragdoll body crap.

Ignore this troll. He is here for no other reason than to pick every aspect of this game apart in the futile attempt to diminish others' enjoyment so he can get attention to help attain some semblance of self-validation or boost of esteem. I've seen some decent trolling before, but this is award worthy. In a way I can't help but admire such dedication and effort, sad as it may be.

I am an anti-troll. It is very rich for you to call me a troll, and ironic, as well.

You and whoever elese who support the changes are trolls. Why? Because did you ever stop to think that perhaps you may be hurting Tomb Raider fans? Not everyone are going to like your changes, and those Tomb Raider fans are still going to want Tomb Raider-like experiences. Tomb Raider has been around a lot longer than this game has, fans of the classic series have higher priority than new casual gamers.

Ruining video game series that people loved is way worse than me calling the video game industry out on it and supporters of these disgusting video game trends.

So, I ask you, "how in the hell am I the troll? You are the one in support of ruining video games and turning them into generic pieces of filth wanna be movies. Is this supposed to be a movie or is this supposed to be a video game? Do all the video games these days need to follow the same formula?".
