Bravely Default is the best game to come out this year, by a large margin. Granted, we're only in July, but it's still #1 in my eyes. #2 would be Mario Kart, or Ground Zeroes. Bash the "paying for a demo" all you want, but it's loaded with stuff to do and the gameplay is near flawless.
I always wished game creators would make what THEY want to make instead of listening to what OTHERS want them to make. Listening to input and criticism is good, yes, but it should only be weighted so much. It's like making music...make the music YOU want to make, don't make something someone else wants. If it's popular, that's an added bonus.
Obviously videogame developers are more on the business side than musicians, but still. Look at Metal Gear Solid 1...Hideo Kojima said it was his favorite to make because there was no pressure...he said he made what he WANTED to make. And it's considered by many to be one of the best games of all-time. If you have a passion for something and put that heart into your game, it shows.
@c-flat Gamespot is the site I take with a g̶r̶a̶i̶n̶ mountain of salt, because of how polarizing they usually are. I'm fine with reviews being differing, but when Gamespot nine times out of ten gives a lowball, edgy review to generate page hits (see: Skyward Sword, TLoU, Twilight Princess) it brings down the credibility of the site, as well as the person reviewing it.
Sony reminds me a lot GM before their bankruptcy. GM was counting on people choosing Chevy or Pontiac over their competitors because of the name alone. Times have changed...people are relying on reviews and user experiences more than they ever were before. Why would I want a Sony TV when the Vizio or Samsung next to it looks just as good, is the same size, yet costs hundreds less?
