Entertainment Goals

I make lists and goals for every aspect of my life... work, cleaning, planning, home, family etc.  So making Entertainment Goals I guess isn't really that surprising; it just sounds odd.

As mentioned in my last blog I started reading again, which I love to do, but have been so distracted lately I hadn't done any serious reading in over a year!!!  So that made me think... make some Entertainment (Reading and Games) goals to achive by December 31st, 2006.  So here they are...

Entertainment Goals (bolded are complete):

Read The Gunslinger
Finish Cold Fear
Read The Drawing of the Three (1/4 thru)
Finish Republic Commando
Read The Wastelands
Finish KOTOR II
Read The Wizard and Glass
Finish Silent Hill
Read The Wolves of the Calla
Finish Myst
Read The Songs of Susannah
Finish WarCraft III: Reign of Chaos
Read The Dark Tower

That's 7 novels and 6 games in about 4 months... pretty high goals to reach considering how busy I am with everything.  Work is 40+ hours/week, I'm throwing a party in Oct, going on a mini-trip in Sept too.  But I hope I can make it.  They don't have to be reached in any order, well, the books do, but the games don't! :P

Something's Gotta Give Part 2

Phew.  Well, it's been a week since I deleted Serenity Now and I have to say I feel a lot better about it.  No longer do I have to read some folks ONLY posts saying "Geez, the board is dead".  Hooray! :D

I had a previous blog which a lot of you read and responded to called "Something's Gotta Give" and this is a follow up to that blog post and my "Cleaning House" post.

Things are getting better, for sure, here's why:

- Serenity Now is gone, yes, but I don't have to milk it anymore so it's freed up a little bit o' time for me to do other things.
- I started playing a game again, it's been about a month since the last one was played (minus to co-op with Vee).
- I started reading again and started with King's The Gunslinger, which I've read several times but have decided to finish the Dark Tower series before Dec 31st, 2006.  I have a ways to go! (7 books ranging from 200-1000 pages each)
- I paid off and cancelled my HUGELY insane APR credit card on 7/28 with my bonus check! :)
- My rent is still going up, yes, but it doesn't seem as daunting now that I've freed up $200/month from the previous bullet.
- My friend, unfortunately for her, did not get the job out of state she wanted, but fortunately for me, she's not moving away! :D
- I've been seriously considering a trip to Philidelphia with Vee in early 2007 to see the King Tut exhibit.  I think it'll be affordable and doable so I'm happy about that!

So in short, too late, the stars seemed to have come back into alignment for me.  On a side note, I'm not necessarily eating healthier, but I've been making and bringing lunch everyday, which saves me around $8-10 per lunch! :)

Cleaned House...

I've decided to clean house...

After being away from GS for a few days I navigatedg here and found a gazillion PM's which were all Union invites and Friend Requests.  So to make life easier I just clicked on that sweet little "Delete All" button at the bottom of my Inbox.  Did the same for the Outbox.

Then I decided I really didn't feel like recieving those damned things anymore... nor do I really feel like trying to nurse a dead UCB anymore.  So that's gone too.  Serenity No Longer!

I'm no longer a Total Access member (although technically am until Feb 07 when the subscription runs out).  I found out a few months ago the Ebgames discount isn't part of the package anymore so there's no need for the membership.

I've also cleaned out my Friends List.  I had 118 people on there, only a few I've actually talked to so 54 people were cut.  Sorry, just sick of trying to read the blogs I want to read and seeing a bunch of others.  So if you're reading this you're probably left in my 64 Friends list and will remain... as I glanced at your UID something told me to keep you there! :P

Something's gotta give!

I'm sitting at home reading people's blogs and realizing there's much too much going on in my life right now to just sit here.  Granted I haven't been online much lately because I've been busy but still...

A lot of stuff has been bothering me lately and making my life pretty sucky, so I felt if I listed them out maybe I'd either do something about them or feel better and move on?

What's totally bad right now:

- My rent is being raised to almost double of what it is now
- I've gained 25 pounds over the past year
- I've realized I totally dropped two good friends over nothing
- One of my closest friends is moving away for good
- I've been budgetting, which is good, but I don't make enough money to pay my monthly bills
- After the work was done on my house the roof is leaking
- My dad's health is getting worse everyday
- My co-worker is retarded (not offense to retarded folks) but she can't figure a damn thing out on her own
- My health insurance has doubled as well as dental
- I haven't left this state in a while, and affording a real vacation isn't likely

What's NOT bad right now:

- My niece had her 1st birthday last week
- Because of my strict budgetting since January I'll be paying off my major credit card this month and lowering my monthly payments by $200

That's about it for now, although there may be a part two coming soon! :P  I'm planning on taking a couple of these things and working on them... like budgetting and my health, since the insurance has gone up better get healthier! :P

Board Banners and Graphic Designers wanted...

I've just posted Serenity Now's latest UCB banner and bumped the Board Banner contest thread.  We've had about 4 winners so far... will the next one be you?  Check it out!

If you like to design game space banners (see my American McGee's Alice, Resident Evil Oubreak File #2, Project Eden, Psychotoxic, Pariah, House of the Dead 3, The Mummy, Haunting Ground, StarCraft BroodWar, The Thing etc) come create and post some banners for Serenity Now.  Graphic designers and anyone who enjoys fooling around with Photoshop is welcome! :)

Game Reviews

Do you review games on GameSpot?  I do when I remember to and when I actually take the time to finish a game! :P  If you do come share your reviews here in the Game Review Thread on Serenity Now.  The Review thread as well as all other threads on Serenity Now are open to the public, feel free to browse, post and introduce yourself.

Home Again!

Hoo-Rah I'm home again! :D

I moved back into my house on Saturday night, woot!  The house is a mess and a half but the windows look good and are air-tight.  The contractor's completely messed up every single door that they touched so they had to come back and fix them.  I had to open a can of whoop-a** (not sure that's spelled correctly) on them to finish the job correctly.  Even had to talk to the Project Manager's boss to get the job done right.

Anywho... I've been home since Saturday night cleaning and moving furniture back into place.  While at my parent's house I played through Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone (PC) and will review that shortly.  Also played a bit of Castlevania: Harmony of Dissonance(GBA) and Tomb Raider: The Prophecy (GBA).  I picked up my other 2 missing GBC Tomb Raider games so now I've got the complete set, except for mobile games and considering I have no cell phone or plans to get one...:P

Temporarily Moving Out...

Hi All.  It's been what seems like forever since I wrote a blog post let alone posted to forums... I've been actually planning and packing up my house in it's entirety.  All furniture, wall hangings, rugs (EVERYTHING) has to be moved either out of the house or into the center of each room allowing at least a 2 foot clearance for each wall.  As I mentioned a while ago I'm having lead removed from my house, turns out every room has ALOT of lead.  I finally got to see the abatement report and it's insane!  All windows, doors and baseboards are being replaced or de-leaded.  This includes all closet doors, closet baseboards and my mantlepiece.  So not only do I have to move everything that's in each room in the center, I have to empty all closets.  My two storage closets and clothes closet!  OY!

Needless to say I've been super mega busay!  Tuesday the removal starts.  Over the last week I've spent just about every waking moment I'm at home, not work, moving and piling furniture into weird center room pyramids, tossing anything I haven't used for the past 4 years and meeting with contracters, abatement specialists and my folks... which I have to move back in with for the period the work is being done!

If you don't already know... once you move out of your house "dealing" with your parents is sooooooooooo much better it's not even funny!  I would have screaming yelling matches with them while I lived there... once I moved out we've never had a single argument!  No joke!  So I'm not looking forward to spending about 2-3 weeks over their house. :(

On the good news front, however, all this work, including the replacement windows (which run about $400 each) is FREE for me! :D  This is a government sponsored program available to lots of US cities that have high levels of lead and high concentrations of old houses.  My house is over 250 years old, case in point!  The work estimate is $11,500 and given how much draft comes through every window on a daily basis I'll be saving tons of $$$ come winter! :D :D  Right now my gas bill in the winter ranges from $350-600/month and that's with keeping the thermostat at 60degrees!  It's cold up here!  I'm hoping and surely expect the gas bill to lower a bit, a few hundred off a month would be SWEET!

Anywho... (damn long post!) I will be living with my parents from Tuesday, May 30th - about June 9th and don't have an Internet connection there.  I've packed up my GBA including: Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, Castlevania Aria of Sorrow and Harmony, Pirates of the Caribean, Disney Princesses, and I believe a Monopoly game in there as well.  I brought 3 books including the Da Vinci Code which I'm only about 1/4 of the way through, a 1000 piece puzzle and the Harry Potter PC Game set (which as I finish I'll give to my step-mom who's a huge fan).

So I have plenty to do!  I'm also going to go see Da Vinci Code once I finish the book and X-Men 3... OF COURSE!!!

Ta-Ta to you all for now!  I'll likely post from work when I get a minute or two!  Laterz...
