I'm looking at overclocking my 4200x2 (939) to get some more speed out of it before I replace it for something better.

how do you go about overclocking? your increase the bus right? also is it best to do it through the bios or is the asus ai boster fine?

Yep, bus speed and in some OC V-core to give it the extra Juice, but be-ware the bus speed set the task of NB-chipset and that inboud Ram, they are overclocked also with bus speed. If you can set the ratio of Ram you should lower it firt to secure there not stopping/fault your OC.

i just disabled the EIST function. its constantly reading 3000mhz and x9 now.

All Intel´s prosessors have a power/energi save funktion, if you dont stress the core, it´ll never get the multiplyer full, there is normal that when not in use the multiplyer jumps down to x6 and in full use it jumps up to x9 or 11 wh-ever youre multipl. are. (multipl. x bus speed = corespeed)

Why, make a card in 2008 at 192bits, why didn´t they make it 256 and have the bandwidth and speed to knock ATi?

If their reason is to compete with ATI´s HD series why not make it faster and better, HD38XX is soon a half year, and nVidias is just released, why not knock ATI then with a faster and cheaper card, Here in Swe the HD3850 256mb is 20-30$ less and from what I´ve seen faster anyway.

If nVIDIA want a share of the mid end market I could understand the 192bits and the pricing, I don't think they try to beat the HD series, they want something to fill the gap from 8600 to 8800GT, there´s a huge gap there for nvidia, and they have a solid fanbase with "nvidia-gamers" who I believe was checking ATI´s HD series before the 8800GS came.

Anyway, cheers to both ATI and Nvidia for cheap good performance in the Midend market, If this evolves we soon have cheap HighEnd cards to, mainly thanks to the HD38XX series.

Hm, I'm convinced that a stock HD3850 is BETTER than 8800GS at stock, stock the GS is 550Mhz on core and this review it got a solid OC 680Mhz on core, if you put a HD3850 in that OC (HD3850 256mb 770-800Mhz core and 1000Mhz mem agains a stock GS) then even a 256mb will knock 8800GS in every single game. What? E6600, Q6600 or nvidia 6600gt, the Info that's important is what Mobo you use, does it has PCIe?

If we know what price-range and Cpu, mobo, we could recommend some good cards for you.

HAHA, NO!!, mabye on medium/high, I own one and on 1280x1024 medium settings 2AA and all payable framerates. But it´s a nice card, only game that it´s a bit weak for is crysis.

My comp is a billion times as fast, I use carbon-oxide to cool my components and i built my own motherboard and have 4 quad core processors. and 64GB ram 1600MHz.... BTW, I use my own built OS (swehuntdos v3.11 BShT 1billion bit) as it´s implementing 16 cores and take advantage of the whole 64GB RAM, I also have a Disel-generator in my basement (power-plant) on 330KW to give me juice when i play crysis on my 88" home-buillt monitor. And Im fake. Tomorrow i will build one to the holy Pope, he was here yesterday played COD4 and he want one to. Next week ill try build a new network called swehuntnet.cons, only advanced Commodore 64bit users are allowed, maybe some Spectrum users to, and I'll promise you, it'll be bigger than Internet.

My brother got an 8600GT and i own a HD3850, my card knocks the S*it out of his.

My specs are: Core 2 duo E4500 2.2ghz 2GB Ram ECS Mobo HD3850 256mb

His Specs are: AMD x2 64 6000+ 3ghz 2GB Ram and ASUS Mobo. 8600GT
