Intel Extreme Edition 540 3.2 GHZ Socket 775
Asus P5G X-series MB (On board LAN, Audio, PCI-E Socket 775)
1 GIG Dual Channel Ram
160 Gig HD
DVD reader CD burner
Asus TOP Series 7800GTX

please help

zero1602

No,you'll probably play low on all settings and hit low frame-rates anyway, most due to RAM and CPU, MB 775 is upgradable, core 2 duo and 2-4GB RAM after that then it´s to change GFX to play at more acceptable settings.

(Personally I think 2GB ram is minimum on that game. )

[QUOTE="PATH0G3N"]

Ok, I used the Extreme Watt Calculator to find out how much power my system is currently using. It came up with 205w (I have a 300w power supply). My system is an Acer, C2Q Q6600, 2gb RAM, HD2400pro, 300w psu and a random Acer mobo. I then put it a 3850 and it came up to 240w. So is it safe to install the 3850 into this pc? I can't really upgrade my psu at this time (probably not until 3/4 of a year's time). I it isn't safe should I opt for the 8600 gts (only $109), the 2600 XT (below $100 and gddr4).

Thanks

sabbath2gamer

well its not really the watts that us important in your case its how the amps

open up your case and look at a sticker on the psu and tell us how many amps is on the 12v rail/

but if the psu cam with the computer its probably some cheap one and you would be better off buying the 2600xt

I'm with you all the way to the 2600xt, isn't HD3850 less watt/amp demanding than 2600XT?

PATH0G3N: A solid/strong PSU will deliver a nice stable power to your comp. And in the end your comp will be stable even when you max it.

you know what is sad?

sad is that some people cant see more than a fancy logo or cooling.

what is your point? ati or nvidia what is the difference ? only thing that matters is good produce, and Ati has its.

Sistem_42

WORD! Finaly, someone in here are getting the point!

Why does people discuss ATI vs. Nvidia?, isn't the actual hardware and the end product important?

And, for what I've seen 3870x2 is a solid bit faster than GTX/Ultra in all games except in WIC where x1900xt and 8600gts was faster, obvious a driver bug. (review in hardware canucs and Tom's hardware and evry other chart/review)

But in the end would someone buy a card that cost $700-900? if ATI goes down the copet. an vs. will be over, and it´s in the end bad for us users.! So I would be glad if ATI whooped GTX/ULTRA of the throne and we see some competition.

There something good in this thread, I agree with the whole flame-war thing, but I to was accused for starting a flame-war just because I added a chart for benchmark, and some people not agree/satisfied with result start...

People have the rigth to express their thougths and learnings about hardware and products, there is a line between Flame-war and an normal discuss, I Haven't seen people calling names and curse, peoples manners are usual civil and apropiate, disagreed is normal and good for both mind and persona.

Ofcorse there are some few people in here like in evry other forum, they are in a discuss just to flame but it's in the end up to yourself to feed them with fire, just leave them be and they don't have anything to go on, that's how it works on the web.

-"yep, your hardware is way better than mine", isn't it obvious?, it'll never happen, many are stuck in their own small box, just leave those people be. (And for what I know most people in here are clever and discuss normal.)

Sorry for my bad spelling and grammar, I live and was born in Sweden.

AMD X2 4000+
MSI K9A2 CF-F 790X AM2+
2gb DDR2-800
250gb Sata HDD
(1) DVD Dive
Antec Earthwatts 430W
Diamond HD3850 256mb

Problem is nothing happens while the HD3850 is installed in the computer. I know the problem is between the power supply and the HD3850 because we put in the 6600 GT, which I am no longer using, and it worked perfectly. I was confident myself that 430W was enough for the HD3850 and was even told so by other reliable members. To their credit, it is possible that we just got a bad PSU, but that doesnt explain why the computer works with the 6600 GT. Unless its possible that the PSU isnt supplying the advertised wattage. That even possible to supply some rather than all of the power?

I'm almost sure that I'm missing something here, but what can it be? All else fails, I'm going to return the PSU for a recplacement and if that doesnt work, I'm giong to order a 500W PSU for the comp.

Spartan8907

Yes, a 430W no-name PSU should be more than enough my 430W handlea Intel E4500 OC from stock 2.2 to 3.4ghz and OC RAM and OC NBchipset and has 2 Sata HDD and 2CD/DVD AND a OCéd HD3850 and 2chassie 92mm fans perfectly.,

Your PSU is most certainly broke or you forgot to put in the extra 6pin power connector at the back on the HD3850.?

No becos, there are just 8.1 alivaleble at writing moment.

8.1 works perfectly on my HD3850 (basicly same card and uses same driver.) and has a very small performance bost in some games.

[QUOTE="Thinker_145"]The 3850 is not under-priced.If it's any more expensive than the 3870 will make it obsolete.Thinker_145

-And you dont know .... And for obsolute HD3850 256 and 512 make more FPS per dollar than your GTS 640 AND more fps per dollar than 3870 and all other cards alivalable rigth now.

Post something smart, I know you can.

Ya so?

The 3850 512MB is like $30-50 cheaper than a 3870.That means if the 3850 get's anymore expensive than it wont be a viable card anymore.I dont see what's wrong with that.:|

Who did recommend the 512mb in this tread? A HD3850 256mb are a solid bit faster than both 8600GTS and 2600xt (the authors first choice.) And the 256mb is a good performer not on pair to the 8800GTS 320 but close, that's a good deal for as cheap card as it is, not a whole more expensive than authors first choice.

Are you with me?

Never mind my bad spelling/grammar I live and was born in Sweden! ;)

Ya that is right but do you know that the 2900pro 512MB is better and cheaper than the 3850 256MB.;)

The only problem with that card is the power consumption.

No, the 2900PRO is not cheaper than 160-170$ ? (As current Swe valuta/price is, same in US.)

And 2900pro is not by that means better, it's very loud(*aircraft launch*), don't have hdmi 5.1, and is one of the most power demanding. And the frame gap in benchmarks is not that big. I would say HD3850.

HD3850 is sometimes more than Twice the performance than 8600gts and its a good and I would say underpriced card.

HD3850 is moust FPS per buck by all cards alivaleble rigth now.
