[QUOTE="swehunt"] If the CPU max out @ 100w and the rest takes 50w tops, does he really need another 450w to spare? Just get a good brand made outta good components that will last long, a 350w-450w of good quality will still run lowend card (up to HD6850) perfectly fine, and in the future we'll be able to get better performing card that use less power, so imagine having the power of a HD6850 drawing only as much juice as a HD5750, that is very likely with the HD7xxx release in a few months.Gambler_3

Well if he has the budget it doesnt hurt to spend $20-30 more for a PSU. You can never be sure how much power the next gen cards would need. Dropping the GPU would give him enough to go for sandy bridge, infact he will save money as I dont quite understand the point of AM3+ board for a non-enthusiast as this PC wont be upgraded for a long time. He just needs a H67 board, nothing more.

The really high quality 450-500W dont actually come that cheap so you may as well spend a bit more.

Yes, AM3+ makes no sense for this build. I would get something with an intergrated gpu, in that department Intel sandybridge is not that good as of now the LIano is a much better deal with 2-3-4 times more powerful graphic chip thats even capable to run simpler games fine, thats why I made a FM1 build above, if however the APU should be found to weak another HD6550 can be run in CF to make performance in the HD5750/6750 midend segment thats only a $40-70 upgrade. True, the good quality 650w isn't that much more expencive, but the Antec 380w for only $40 I put in that build has pleanty with power to run a dedicated midend (again up to HD6850) grapihc card along with a stock clock'ed CPU. Probably good investment to get something in the 500w range, but if this PC isn't going to be upgraded it's a waste on resourses.

So my 8800gts 512 is starting to show it's age, decided i'd replace it before BF3 comes out.

Looking at a 560TI 1gb, wondering if I'd have any issues/bottlenecks?

I've got a q6600 @ 3.2ghz, will be clocking it higher within the next few days..

Also, would my 550W PSU be able to handle it?

Nibroc420

What make and model of that PSU? 550w could be anything, the combined wattage of the whole PSU isn't relevant at all.

If it's for your aunt I would just get a motherboard with onboard video. You don't need that much to view photos.

Gambler_3

Not photo viewing. She does use photoshop to edit them, which probably still doesn't use the card that much, but still...

Why dont you just drop the graphic card altogether and get her a sandy bridge setup with onboard video? That would crush the PC you have selected for photoshop performance.

Dont drop the PSU to something really cheap as you wanna have the option of transforming this PC into a gaming one anytime in the future.

And that HDD is over priced, go for samsung.

And i got noticed that i dont have 256 MB GPU, I have 880 MB GPU.N0_SKILLZ_SOUL
[QUOTE="N0_SKILLZ_SOUL"]Know what?my laptop plays Counter Strike 1.6,CrossFire what requires 1.5 GHZ minimum(LAG FREE!)and i think that it will lag on mw2 but it will play it :D I will post vids later when i install it and ill make a gameplay and youll see that it will play it :)

That memory is still just 256mb, the rest (880mb) is fetched from the rammodules and is toooo slow to make a difference. 1.5Ghz was aimed at the single core's of that era, and the CPU you have are much faster per clock and you have a dual core. your CPU > "1.5Ghz" pentium 4/athlon xp singlecores wht or whtout hyperthreading for the p4 that is.

Tezcatlipoca666

in that case he might as well go AMD A8-3850.

Get a FM1 motherboard and a LIano CPU (preferably not the 3850 since it's a bit much), get 4GB ram and a PSU. Shouldn't cost much more than half what the build he currently looking at.

FM1 motherboard $70

LIano APU $119

4GB(2*2) 1333mhz $24

Case $34

memcard/flashcard reader $15

PSU $40

And a random DVD burner ($20)

Note that another HD6670 cost about $80. (but the APU manage fine for the intended stuff she is doing.

IF she ever whant to game the APU will let her do so, and IF she would think the graphic is to weak she could always get a HD6670 and Crossfire it with the APU getting performance near HD6750 levels.

I'm not sure this is how I would spend my money since it's quite expencive with LIano as of now, Liano MB's and APU's need to come down a bit to really be a good option but it's still a uncommon alternative.

The CPU temps seems a little high to be honest, ur not even doing a very high OC either.

I think you should try refit the noctua, you should see lower themps than that.

Edit: well your doing a high OC, I missread the clocks, well temps in the higher 60's are not the cause for concern althou I wouldn't want it to be any higher.

I have the 580 and the new drivers crash all my games. I'm running the 270 ones and I'm fine. LordsLoss
But you couldn't known that if you hadn't tried the new ones would you? :P step 1 update drivers. step 2 if they bad, roll back to older ones.

My case is open and i don't hear any noise at all. You can easily adjust the fan speed , even if the lower margin is still to noisy i rewrite the bios on the vga card's to lower the auto speed. (you can do it easily with winflash) I can understand your very sensitive about this noise if you record music, but if you don't record music the treshold is different. Anyway since your such an expert on cases , i'm looking to buy a case, My case i have now is ok but i have to leave it open because it doesn't ventilate enough when i'm gaming( the case is too old). Any suggestions?evildead6789

I'm no expert at all, sorry if I gave that impression.

Had a little expencive trial and error myself before I got it right. :(

I do reccomend you both the fractial design R3 and the XL, they're great cases, the corsair 800D is another great case but it's quite expencive.

Going by the three I reccomended, less is more in my opinion, so if you like disco case's I don't know, Lancool/lian li KC-62 seems like a winner too even if it's a bit of showcase. :(

Problem is in the airflow, usally a good airflow mean much noise but it depends on how the case is built and where the fan's are lockated, a solid front door is a great pros as both HDD's and fans usally sit there.

I am still on the 270.something drivers, no need to update drivers if your not having problems. Dont fix what isnt broken as they say.V4LENT1NE
Why wouldn't you update the graphics drivers? In just about every single new release they tweek the performance a little bit, thats not the only good about drivers, they fix problems with the older ones. If you havn't updated the drivers you should check the driver log and see how much improovment and how much your missing. The beta you can skip for most if your not haveing trouble in a particular game that has a hot'fix in the drivers, but I reccomed getting the latest WHQL labeled released driver.

If you're not gaming you can always adjust the fan speed with various tools. Cataclyst driver , msi afterburner. My system is dead silent when not gaming and temps are very low. True about corsair , they have pretty silent psu.evildead6789
Does not matter when the whole side is made outta mesh, you'll hear your components anyway, and if the fans the case comes with are loud you need to replace them too.

I am xtreamly nitpicky when it comes to noise level, thats because I make music and need to reccord in the same room as I have the main PC. (out apartment isn't big enough for both a seperate studio and another dedicated computer-room.)

As of now I am using a nexus prominent 5 case with 6 nexus fans (witch is indeed the most quiet fans alivalable) and the case is mod'ed with a inch thick sounddampening foam in sevral layers ontop of the 0.25" bittummen, all fans can be run at their lowest speed via the two fancontrollers I have, the fan mesh have been cut out to reduce turbulense.

I have made my own HDD bracket out of foam to keep the mechanical silent, well that wasnt enough either, had to get a SSD for the OS since the read/search is a really horrible sound when you cant hear anything else. I have tryed various cases and any case made out of mesh isn't going to keep your components from letting out 90% of the noise they make, sure while your gaming it dont matter, but even the whine of HDD's make me angry.

Now I even think the keyboard's clicking sound is to loud...

Well I know im a retard when it comes to the noise level of my PC, need some threads like this to actually understand how sick I am. phew...

Corsair in general is a really great brand ranging from coolers/cases/SSD's to ram modules but I think they have made a rearrangement in the PSU line witch I don't like, they have been shipping out ton's of PSU's lately with much less appealing components than the great ones that made the reputation for corsair what they are today.

I'm not saying corsair stop'ed making great PSU's, but a few years ago you could buy a great PSU really cheap from corsair and it had the same or in some cases even better components than the really expencive PSU's you could buy, nowdays they make PSU's in all various ranges, the lower budget ones are still decent but thats just what they are too, they're not great or awsome as you could say about the few series they had a few years ago. (the old series VX/TX/CX/HX)

I guess their PSU's are still silent, else they would have trouble selling their headsets and loudspeakers. :P

I I had a big enough buget I'd get the corsair 800D, thats a really great case.
