I'm pretty sure I would have found this game OMG mindblowing when I was like 14 years old and was all about American history, the founding fathers, and the US Constitution.

Heck, even age like 22 I would find it to be pretty revealing.

Now, well, I've already explored these topics on my own so I know where this is headed.

I'm finding the movement to be really really weird in this game. For some reason my mouse aiming just feels...too sensitive. Otherwise, it feels just like the Bioshock that I'm used to.

So far I'm also finding the treatment of the subject to be a little ham-handed, and kind of an oppression studies 101 sort of thing.

first person big time.

3rd person is actually lousy. If I want 3rd person, I want a side scroller where you see the entire field. 3rd person just results in a limited perspective.

First person is really immersive. Like, there are times playing FPS games that I will physically duck my head due to first person view.

I'm starting out and I'm counting until I get to meet Elizabeth.

Because I"ve seen teh teaser and I know I get her.

Annoying.

Also, um, anyone else find the treatment of the topic kind of heavy-handed? Like, it bashes you over the head with it.

I've never designed a game or a mod, but all my experience with computers indicates that a lot of time is spent ironing out minor bugs...so I'd guess stuff like texture seams, pop-in, quests that don't work, minor stuff like that.

Like, at some point, shouldn't they be able to come up with an AI program that analyzes a game running, spots a bug like a bad texture, and then automatically fixes it?

Also, why don't more 3rd person perspective or first person games have randomly generated environments? You could probably devise a system where there's random generation of "filler" hallways and those lead to the boss/story room which is where painstaking detail matters. Mass Effect 2 for instance, like the mission where you rescue Garrus has a completely bland environment, but it probably cost a few million dollars of man-hours to detail it all.

Publishers have to find a way to bring these costs down. There's no other way around it. I don't care what game you made, if 3.4 million units in a month is considered a failure it's time for a major re-evaluation of your business. If that means cutting certain elements (like multiplayer), so be it.

This does also raise other questions about the console industry. I don't think many will disagree that console gaming cannot continue on the current path its on and expect to remain in business. But what can be done?

What I think needs to happen is that someone has to release some sort of auto-generating software that can basically reduce a lot of the repetition and "busy work" that goes into creating these worlds.

But yeah, I'm finding cinematic games to be really lousy entertainment, actually. Like, movies still have better stories and better emotional range, and I really hate the "play segment, then sit through cutscene" that you have to put up with.

I suspect that you would like infinite.

Here's why.

I understand what's not to like about Bioshock. It's really depressing. THe game left me with a cold feeling. I'm not a big fan of horror, and like too much of the game had these gratuitous horror moments.

Infinite however, is bright and colorful. It's set in the sky. That alone will make a huge difference and is why you'd like the game.

Gameplay wise, it'll probably bel ike other games with shooting guns and some magic powers wielded also. Eh, that part is kind of whatever.

Bioshock infinite is the first game I have ever preordered in my entire life.

But the promo offer was too good to pass up.

It was actually lust for X-Com which drove the decision.

So,

any good upcoming 2k games in the next year?

Darkness II had probably the best story and character ever in a video game.

It also has the best depiction of romantic love.

This might edge me closer to the bioshock infinite preorder.

Any interesting upcoming 2k games on the way? I already own Darkness II and Mafia II. Excellent games, highly underappreciated.
