In all FPS games, you control basically the head of the character so you get a view from his eyes.

But take a look at this.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5TFxibEJxhw

It's the infamous Atlanta Mall Cop. It took me a while to realize that he had the camera mounted on his chest.

Pretty gnarly stuff. But the perspective from the camera makes it better. You see his arms moving around, you see him tumbling with other people. Also...I'm kind of tired of looking video game characters in the eye. This perspective sort of gives you like a...Krane's eye view of the world. I guess it like lets you see the visceralness of combat while keeping you seperate from the main character. It's kind of uncanny.

Like, the videos are practically a GTA game, and really ought to be studied by all game designers. Shooting galleries are so dumb.

MG3 was such a good game too.

But MGS4...utter garbage.

BF3 I have played. I enjoyed teh SP campaign a lot actually. Frostbite is the *best* game engine out right now.

MP is actually too arcadey though. Way too arcadey.

God of War 3 deserves a mention. GOW1 was pretty amazing with what it did with PS2 hardware. GOW3 isn't a technical standout.

I agree a lot with the OP.

Let me elaborate.

GTA 4. Movement was annoying. This is kinda like the tripwire developer complaining about players liking movement a certain way -- well, we're used to mario-like acceleration. GTA 4 didn't have this. Too realistic.

Also just too cynical and crass.

Uncharted 3. it's a good game, but wasn't the awesomeness that was Uncharted 2. It didn't make enough improvements over Uncharted 2, but was a very minor refinement.

and now,

METAL GEAR SOLID 4. Gets a 10.0 rating from the fanbois. Deserves at best a 6.5 rating. Terrible game, long stupid cutscenes, doesn't force stealth, just a bad bad game.

Man, if you read the article, the guy didn't seem all that bad. Like, he's an actual fan of gaming, while the other guys seem to be in it for the money alone. Money alone, EA did lose like 2 billion over something like 4 years.

His biggest mistake probably was taking on Bioware and the disaster that is SWTOR. I mean, SWTOR is simply an awful game.

The_Last_Ride

I love that game, i have spent countless hours on it, there is a great story for each class there. Anyways, i know what you mean though

I had high hopes for it, but it's just simply not a good game. The original KOTORS were better, and the original WOW is better. Mixing them...just doesn't work IMO

I can't hate EA. But I'm also more forgiving than most for buggy launches, mostly because I don't play newly launched games.

Sim City looks like they put some interesting effort into it to make it a neat experience.

Now, if you want evil, how about Bobby Kotick? Look at what he did to Infinity Ward, just as they finished the masterpiece that is MW2?

didn't realize this thread existed (I always ignore stickies)

recommend arty platformers in the vein of rayman origins, braid, and aquaria.

For platformers, having really good animations is really important to me.

ah, for iOS.

I have an ipod touch but I've stopped playing games on it until I get around to picking up the A5 version of it. A4 is too slow to play apps anymore. THanks for the rec though. THis wasn't even on my radar screen.

Can anyone recommend some neat/arty side scrollers like those games?

If you think about it, the advent of 3d movement in games is probably a big reason why we have game-killing elements like...dice roll RPG combat and hitscan autolocking weapons. Even like the Contra games or battletoads games actually required aim in using projectile weapons. And I do feel like you could do more intricate manuvers and have more close calls in Super Mario 3 than in Mario 64 because Mario 64 was limited by a 3d camera.

So, any good, overlooked platformers?

Is it a decent length?Rattlesnake_8

It feels shorter than WOL, which is okay. Maybe like 1/3 shorter?

End mission is much much much easier than WOL's end campaign.
