The servers won't shut down because gaming will no longer be in "generations". Everything streaming over the cloud means we no longer need dedicated consoles, just a controller and a TV. iTunes doesn't get shut down each time a new iPhone comes out, it's an ongoing service.
@Glongold If you want to play smartphone games, get games that are designed for touchscreens. Using emulators and ROMs is a terrible example, and is also illegal.
The PC didn't kill home consoles, why would mobile devices kill handhelds? Just because the Vita failed doesn't mean all handhelds are dying. Every single device that tired to compete with Nintendo handhelds has failed. By GameSpot's logic, I guess handhelds have been dying for over 20 years.
If a publisher believes in a franchise, they will keep making games for it, regardless of sales. Look at Microsoft's Halo series, Nintendo's Mario, Zelda, Kirby, Smash Bros., Pokemon series; Sony's Ratchet & Clank, God of War, Gran Turismo series; etc.
@Killer6b9 But the PS4 app is integrated into the OS, so it's easy to set up a broadcast by pressing the Share button. On the Xbox you have to open the Twitch app and snap it to the game you are playing.
Come on Wednesday, I need my paycheck so I can finally buy this game!
I'm so glad that Microsoft is using Blu-ray discs in the Xbox One. Microsoft finally realized that games are getting bigger and require more disc space than DVDs can handle. It seems both the Xbox One and PS4 will be on equal footing (same hardware architecture, same CPU and GPU, similar RAM specs, etc.).
