The games are still region locked with PS2 games regardless of which PS system your using. If the console you bought is a PAL system and you took it out of a factory sealed box then all you most likely need is the latest firmware. But if you were sold a NTSC system then the PAL PS2 games still will not work. Although you have a 60 gig HDD it really doesn't mean that somone didn't swap the 40 gig HDD for a 60 gig HDD in the system you bought.jimm895
Hmmm...if someone's switched the 40GB HDD of a 40GB PS3 with a 60GB HDD, the person I bought it from is in trouble. I have a one year full replacement/ service warranty along with a receipt for the purchase.
Sorry but what's PAL? And PS2 games play like PS2 console.DEF-JAM
PAL is a territorial classification that encompasses most of Europe and Australasia (excluding Japan). There is another classification known as NTSC that includes North America and Japan. I'm not aware of any other classes.
In the PS2 generation, PAL games wouldn't work on an NTSC console (and vice - versa). However, since the PS3 is region free, in theory all PS3 games would work on any PS3 irrespective of whether its a PAL or NTSC machine.
its about the same, maybe a tiny bit better visual on a ps3, but thats if your tv is hdjohnlennon28
Thanks, that makes me feel quite a bit better.
And finally, how can I save my DVD videos to my hard-disk? I wasn't able to find an option in XMB that lets you do that.
I purchased it today, it was, is brand new! I have a one year warranty for it!
I guess I just have to live with the fact that I'm stuck with this machine now. After all the trouble I took to find it, months after Sony stopped manufacturing it, it does look like I'm going to be disappointed now :(
u have a 60 gig trust me, however if i remember the PAL 60gigs didnt include the emotion engine, they ran on software emulation.FstBrk342
I sincerely hope that's not the case. One of the main factors that influenced my decision to buy a PS3 was that I'd be able to play my PS2 games without too much hassle ,and believe me, finding this 60GB PS3 was not easy.
If what you're saying is true, people have been posting incorrect information on some threads in this forum. The "Read first before Posting" thread doesn't say anything about the PAL 60GB version not being able to play PS2 games without software emulation.
I haven't downloaded the latest firmware upgrade yet. But will that help? I mean, my console's supposed to backward compatible - without the need for additional software, right?
Also, I checked the system using the XMB browser. It said that I have 47GB free out of 55GB. So I wasn't sold the 40GB version (I think). Why do you suppose it says I have 47GB out of 55GB free? Shouldn't it be 47GB out of 60GB? And if so, I wonder where the remaining 13GB went, because I haven't stored any data on my HDD yet!
