@olddadgamer: I guess I assumed - perhaps foolishly, I admit - that Nadella wasn't going to kill off Xbox. With Microsoft's investment in the Xbox One X and Phil Spencer's promotion, I took it as a forgone conclusion that Xbox would continue on, at least for another generation or two. But, yeah, I guess things could've gone a very different way.

@sodapoppimpski: The acquisition of those studios is certainly reason to be optimistic, but that's still only five studios, two of which - Playground Games and Undead Labs - have their establish franchises. And while I've enjoyed those games, I really don't want to see Microsoft set those studios to churning out more of the same. Forza Horizon 5 and State of Decay 3 won't excite me to purchase the next Xbox. That said, I am excited for whatever Ninja Theory does next.

I just worry that five new studios won't be enough, especially if Microsoft doesn't retire or, at the very least, put on extended hiatus, some of their other long-in-the-tooth franchises like Halo and Gears, thereby freeing up and encouraging those studios to create something new.

Jeff Gerstmann during the Giant Bomb Quick Look of Rust: "Do you get anything for killing other players? Other than, I mean, an erection?"

And for most PvP players, that's pretty much all the reward they need. The only way to ensure players can't grief other players is to have some of those dedicated servers locked to PvE only. And if that's what they plan on doing, that's all they had to say.

Who the hell was worried about Microsoft's 'console future' except where it relates to them not having a proper library of games to justify purchasing their systems? I don't think anyone doubted there would be at least one more generation of consoles after this one. The only question remains: will there be anything to play on said Microsoft console other than the same old tired franchises (Halo, Gears of War, Forza) and, finally, Crackdown 3?

If they took some of the concepts of Fallout Shelter and some of the scavenging/base building ideas from Fallout 4 and mixed them with a proper Fallout game...I could be way into that. Some of what State of Decay was trying for (but didn't quite accomplish) in a Fallout game that manages to make it work. But they'd need to find a way to make all parts equally engaging. The base building part of Fallout 4 wasn't great, mostly because it was utterly pointless. I appreciate the fact that it was optional, but they should aspire to better than, "We know it sucks, but you don't have to do it, so that makes it okay!"

Out of the glut of survival games that spilled into early access, seemingly all at once, The Forest was the one that always struck me as the most appealing - largely because it wasn't relying on PvP. Might have to finally check it out.

I'd much rather see Obsidian create their own Fallout-like property, that way they don't have to wait for someone to give them permission to execute on whatever ideas they may have. There have to be enough fans of New Vegas that Obsidian could announce they were creating their own first-person, open world, RPG shooter and people would be excited for it. Do they really need the Fallout name?

I still like zombies. I still really enjoy open world games. I'm always down for some light crafting/survival elemtns. And I'm always a sucker for filling up a bar with XP to unlock new skills/abilities. Days Gone doesn't need to reinvent the wheel, it just has to be competent at what it's doing.

What concerns me isn't a lack of originality, but Bend Studio's ability to deliver a game that looks, runs, and plays as good as it needs to to overcome that lack of originality. I wasn't really a fan of Syphon Filter - and those games were ages ago - so I'm leery of just how capable the team is. I'd feel more optimistic if this was coming from a more seasoned studio with some experience in tackling these sort of projects.

But even if the game has technical issues and the controls are sloppy/clunky, I'd still give the game a chance if it had strong writing. Two words: Deadly Premonition. That game looked horrible, had wonky controls and poor UI, and suffered from all manner of ill-conceived design choices, but the writing, the sheer insanity of the story and the cast of oddball characters, made that game something special. So, if nothing else, I hope they've put a strong focus on that aspect of the game, crafting a bugnuts crazy story or, at the very least, filling that open world will some truly unique, memorable characters that, I'd hope, play some greater role in the main story. Because if they just pack the game with generic post-apocalypse tropes that any fan of the genre will immediately recognize, that'd be a huge bummer.

This may be well-worn territory, but there are a number of ways they can still make Days Gone a damn good game worthy of my money and my time. I just hope they can deliver.

The attitude in the advertising is really off-putting. It's playing in the same ballpark of "John Romero's about to make you his bitch" and we all know how that worked out.

The gameplay looks...fine. And if they want to Far Cry it up, I'm certainly interested in that. But it looks destined to be a Rage sequel in the worst way: an enjoyable, but mostly forgettable, game.

Ugh. That looks so terrible it could be the third AvP movie.

Why can nobody get this right?

Predator starred Arnold Schwarzenegger, Carl Weathers, Jesse Ventura, Bill Duke and Sonny Landham. And this stars...a posse of snarky, unlikeable assclowns and Olivia Munn's rack? And it seems a safe bet that kid isn't just a trailer prop but Munn's "scientist" character's son who'll be in a lot of the movie, which is great, because children are a great addition to any horror/action flick.

F this movie in the A till it bleeds.
And if it bleeds, you can kill it. So kill this damn franchise already.

Unless...is Predator owned by Fox? Would Disney get their hands on Predator if they buy Fox? If so, then Disney needs to pay Hugh Jackman a billion dollars to come back one last time for Old Man Logan v. Predator. Sure, that'd be stupid as hell, but a fun sort of stupid that might actually be awesome in a way this turd has no chance of being.
