@Berserk8989: There's just something about the actor, the way he's playing the character, and/or the lines of dialogue that just irritate the hell out of me. Yeah, Han had a touch of smug, cockiness about him, but it felt more like a façade, a false bravado in the original trilogy. More than it, it felt like even Han didn't really take his posturing seriously, thanks in no small part to Harrison Ford's little half-smile like he's laughing to himself at his antics. I don't get any of that from this trailer. And his whole "I'm gonna be the greatest pilot ever" line makes me want to punch that dude right in the throat.
Admittedly, it's just a trailer, and those of us who got fooled into being excited for The Phantom Menace know perfectly well that the trailer doesn't tell the full story. And maybe that is what's really bothering me. Cutting together a trailer to get people excited for a movie that's probably going to be a complete dumpster fire shouldn't be that hard, especially when it's a Star Wars movie. I think every one of the prequels got me a little excited, even after being burned by the previous one. This just seems...lacking. I'm betting somebody on YouTube does a better job with it in the future, maybe pulling better lines of dialogue and adding a more evocative soundtrack.
So...before he was roguishly charming, Han Solo was a total douchenozzle? Sure, why not? Lucas totally ruined Darth Vader. Disney might as well drop a giant steamer on Han Solo. Maybe next they'll give us that Yoda origin story where he's a bumbling, inept horndog who has to learn to channel all his sexual frustrations into the Force and that's how he becomes the greatest Jedi master ever. Because, really, who doesn't want to see Yoda in a Hawaiian shirt, holding a forty, and proclaiming, "Hey, everybody, laid we will all be getting!"
@quinnd6: I'm right there with you. I was genuinely excited for games like Destiny and The Division, but as soon as I learned you have to be connected online to play them, even if you want to play solo, it killed my interest and never bought them. I was one of the few people who was willing to give Metal Gear Survive a chance but, again, that forced online bullshit even for the single-player campaign just cost Konami one more sale on a game that probably needs all the support it can get. And, despite how much I love Borderlands, if Gearbox tries to pull this crap by making an online connection mandatory to play Borderlands 3, I won't be buying it either.
Funny how the mandatory online connection was so outrageous that it would've kept people from buying the Xbox One, yet those same people have no problem buying games with that very same requirement.
This is why it's unacceptable for games to require an online connection. Someone, somewhere, paid a minimum of $60 for a game that they can't currently play and they're positively furious. And rightly so.
Getting pissy about other games implementing modes similar to your mod when your mod stole the concept from a novel/movie? Just one more reason to think that dude is a total douchebag.
If Sony had backwards compatibility I'd probably snag some of those cheap PS3 games. That's pretty much the only time I buy digital: when it's such a good deal, when games are so cheap it's worth spending a few bucks just to have a digital copy. I mean, Sleeping Dogs and Tomb Raider for $2 each? That's an absolute steal for two damn good games.
My recent Battlefield kick has me tempted to pick up Battlefield Hardline just to try it out, but I'm not sure it's actually worth $5.
@pauls: The character customization was one of the things that really appealed to me about this game. I didn't really play MGS V online, but I had some fun just playing with the character creator and secretly wished Konami would make a Metal Gear Gaiden where you didn't play as Snake and, instead, got to Saints Row it up a bit by making your own character, complete with options for a couple different voices. If I could craft new outfits and/or there was cosmetic loot that randomly dropped, I would've been way into that, and it would've given me a reason to delve into the multiplayer, because you want to show off the your custom character and your crazy outfit. But then they went and killed the dream with their always-online bullsh*t.
@pauls: It's crazy that Microsoft had to completely reverse their stance on 'always online' for their console due to the backlash, yet, little by little, developers are sneaking that crap into their games. While you could argue that stuff like Destiny and The Division are built around a multiplayer experience and, as such, always-online makes some degree of sense - despite the fact that some people might prefer to play alone, which they should be able to do offline - there doesn't appear to be any reason for this single-player campaign to require always-online except as DRM. And Konami is getting away with it because the main focus is on how this isn't a 'real' Metal Gear game, or how it looks like trash, or 'it has zombies and that's lame.'
It's a shame. Nobody seems to care about this game, so they can't be bothered to care about the shady, scumbag business practice at work. And they should care, because sooner or later it's going to impact a game they do care about - like loot boxes, which have become damn near ubiquitous - but once they know they can get away with it, once it's an accepted practice, it'll start showing up in every game. Until it doesn't need to because we've just accepted it and, hell, it might as well be a built-in feature of every console.
As soon as they said it was always online, even for the single-player campaign, I lost all interest in this. And I was one of the few people who was willing to give this game a chance.
