@kryten212: There's definitely more people on PS4, but 20k online isn't exactly hard to find a good game or evidence the game will die faster. Right now that stats site shows PC at 20k, Xbox at 29k, and PS4 at 60k. By this logic, the PC is the worst of the three and will die first. If you want to make that argument, prepare for the backlash from PC master racers.

Games largely die at the same speed on each console, because new games come out and support/development for older games drops off.

@kryten212: I disagree. The Xbox user experience is significantly better than PS4's and I can't understand how anyone would think otherwise. PS4 has many more exclusives, though, so that's what my PS4 is used for. The controller, online features, constant updates, etc, just make the Xbox a far better experience for me personally.

@a687947: Agreed. Halo is one of the most deserving candidates on this list for exactly the reasons you mention. A lot of people, especially younger people, don't realize the influence Halo had.

@whatsazerg: The best evidence of that is when they feel compelled to go to an online comment section to proclaim how stupid other people are for playing games a different way than they do.

@emgesp: But that's the thing, you're looking at this from a skewed perspective. Microsoft isn't releasing this as a solitary new console, but as the 'premium' version of its existing console. It isn't meant to sell by the truckloads, but to capture the sales of people who would be willing to pay handsomely for the boost.

It's akin to their strategy for the Surface lines. When they put out the first Surface, people expected them sell for something competitive to the cheapest iPads, in order to gain market share. Instead, they labeled it a premium product and sold it for over $1000. They were happy with a small part of that business for strategic reasons.

It's the same reason car companies sell cheap models and expensive ones. Microsoft's gameplan is to use Scorpio as a way to lure in the big money gamers (like the people who spent $150 on the Elite controller) and as a way to brag about Xbox's power advantage over Sony. If it sells even 15-20% of what the standard Xbox One sells, they will be happy. Eventually it'll come down in price, they'll likely release an even more powerful model then for around the same new price, and the cycle will continue that way.

@zero_juice: You're correct, but the majority of people don't know this and it's the easiest thing to market. It's hard to brag about the GPU in hard concrete numbers people will understand, but if you say it holds 2 terabytes of games, it sounds good and people can directly compare it to other models or even other consoles.

@emgesp: I think for a lot of people it will. 50% increase is massive. Especially since a lot of people will be trading in consoles, so it'll be closer to the $350-400 range for them, and you can expect price decreases, bundles, and sales early on, just as Microsoft did for original Xbox One and Xbox One S.

@atopp399: Honestly, I prefer consoles for a lot of reasons besides simply the cost effectiveness. Their simplicity makes them easy to use, you know you'll get a consistent user experience as the people you're playing against, etc. I've built PCs as well, but presently I just prefer consoles.

@atopp399: It probably won't sell great, but the difference here is Microsoft has a cheaper Xbox that plays the same games.
