@keithlemon: Motion controllers actually did get released on all consoles after the Wii, but the craze died. Screen controllers would actually be really snazzy (along the Dreamcast model), but Wii U makes it a giant tablet with buttons instead of a controller that happens to include a screen component. A Dual Shock or XB1 controller that has a small screen built-in for something like mini maps, etc, would be useful. It just has to retain a controller form factor.

@romeothebeast: If they sit out the console generation, which will be 5-10 more years, they collapse. If they're going to sit out hardware, they'd have to go third party. What company can just say "okay, we're going to stop operations for a decade. But we'll be back. See you then!" They'd be hanging everything on their mobile department, which would mean they'd have to close all console development, lay off everyone who works on console games, etc, because it'd make no sense to keep paying them for a decade for no work. And then they'd never get those people back.

@onehitta323: They're marginally superior. Honestly, 99% of fanboys wouldn't even notice if there weren't articles telling them so.

@mr_fantastic54: Considering the development time of games, they would've likely already had a sequel in the works before release and would've just canceled the project if the first hadn't sold well. So this is just a matter of when they announce the new sequel. I suspect that we won't see much improvement on the mechanics of the first considering they wouldn't announce this if they didn't think they could release it relatively soonish.

@Silverline62: I do from time to time, but the repetitiveness limits its replay value.

@jerms82: I too would like to see some different pads and stuck options to really customize the elite. And I'll say it too: I wish the battery casing cover was the same as the regular controllers so it'd work with existing charging docks on the market. Had to buy a specific charging base/battery set for the elite.

@Supabul: Most of them already develop for PC which has thousands of variations, as another comment states. Essentially on an enhanced console they'd just take a similar approach, but have a set of game settings that are defaulted to depending on which console you're running it on. Low specs on XB1, high specs on XB2, etc.

I think this was what Microsoft was planning anyways by promising future consoles would be backwards compatible and adopting Windows 10 as the OS for the console. It seems like they always intended for their next console to kind of just step up from the last while still playing the old games, but I'm sure they didn't expect to do it THIS soon.

@andfx8: Not really PS4 owners, just new customers. Last generation there was something like 160M consoles sold between PS and XB, so that leaves us with another 100M of consoles to sell to someone this generation (since PS was at last report, I think, around 36M and Xbox at 18M). If Xbox could do well going forward, they could overtake PS long-term without convincing a single PS4 customer to switch. It's unlikely, but it's plausible at least.

I'd love to see different color schemes for Elite controllers. I intend to buy a second one eventually and would like some variety. I have three other controllers, all designs, but haven't used them since getting the Elite. If only my Titanfall controller were an Elite...

It looks pretty solid, but who knows until it's out. That said, Microsoft did well with Halo 5, so there's reason to be optimistic here. Sure, there will be people who will claim it's bad simply because it has Microsoft's name attached and, for some reason, people get really worked up by such things, but it'll probably be a solid entry.
