@HalcyonScarlet: Those that keep saying the PS5 SSD will make such a huge difference really do not understand how all this works. As someone who has been gaming using SSD's (SATA and NVME) for several years now (current rig has an intel 660p with R/W of 1800 and an XPG S40G with a R/W of 3500/3000) and although it makes a huge difference compared to regular HDD's, it wont be a night and day difference. You are still limited by how fast your CPU can process the data. A good way to look at it is this video below, which shows the loading time difference between HDD, SATA SSD (around 500Mbps read write), and an NVME SSD (around 3000 read/write). You will see that the difference between HDD and SATA SSD is massive, but the difference between SATA and NVME (in terms of loading times) is minimal (even though the NVME SSAD is 6x faster on paper). All these console kid's who do not understand the tech or lack experience with the tech parroting back marketing terms is just dumb imo.

@Postosuchus: I would argue that, at Msrp (or close to it) both the RTX 3070 and 3060ti, as well as the RX 6800 provide fairly good performance. Honestly if I were you, I would get the RTX 3070 FE from BB for $500 (easier said than done, but doable) and sell your old GTX 1070 for $450/$500. That way you can essentially get a massive upgrade for free and be good for a few more years (assuming your CPU is decent)
@mobius_basic: Exactly the 2070 is still a fairly capable card all things considered and should be fine till availability on the new cards improves. Honestly I went from a 2070 Super to a 3070 and the uptick although nice, was not life altering. Just helps me maintain 140hz at 1440p better than my old 2070s did. But if you game at 1440p or lower and aim for 60fps 2070 is more than enough imo.
As for me picked up both the PS5 and XSX (mainly since they were the hot new thing, and got a decent price for my old PS4 and XOneX). Played the PS5 a lot at begining but have not touched it in months, but that will change now throw HZD is available haven't played the dlc before. The XSX gets a decent amount of use though due to GamePass (I'd argue more than my gaming rig atm as I like chilling on couch and playing on an HDR display, my TV is much better than my monitor).
@hardwenzen: What titles are running at 580p exactly that are optimized for Series S/X? This seems like an extremely disingenuous argument considering the only ones that would be running that badly (resolution wise) would be the older XOne titles that do not have series x/s optimization (or more specifically the ones that run as if they are running on an Xbox). You could use the same argument on the Sony system then and say Ps4 games running on PS5 at 720p makes the PS5 a 720p system. It's a stupid argument either way.
On a seperate note, I will say (if one is cash strapped and can only have one system) buying the Series S over the PS5 Digital does not make much sense. For only a $100 more you can get a more powerful system with double the ssd storage. The Series S is not as good of a price/performance as the other systems in my view. It's great as a secondary console (I am debating whether to get it or the XSX for my secondary room to replace XOneX, already have XSX and PS5 in main room) but as a main spending the extra $100 for the PS5 digital or even better extra $200 for XSX or PS5 Disc makes much more sense. Plus issue with digital only consoles is that you can only buy games from one place. Long term a Disc version would make much more sense especially if you are cash strapped since you would probably end up spending less on the game purchases overall.
@rrjim1: Oh I had not even checked, really this poor idiot using 3rd party Amazon sellers, selling at scalper prices, as proof that the XSS is not selling? Oh wow that is pathetic and a new low.
On a seperate but related note, the XSS was meant to be the easier to manufacture console. Therefore it is more likely to have higher availability/stock (due to better chip yields) than PS5/XSX. You can not argue that something being in stock is proof of it not selling, without also knowing about how many are being made. But the OP is too uneducated to realize that
@mowgly1: Literally the saddest and most pathetic thing I have read here in a while. Lmao you track constantly whether the XSS is in stock and are happy when it seems to be in stock (and therefore not selling)? Lmao wow that is one sad and pathetic existence you have. We're you a bit more educated and harder working, you would not care whether one console did well and another failed, as you would be able to own more than just one system. Because let's be frank, the only reason someone is an Xbox/PS/Switch fsnboy is because they have that system and don't have (can't afford to have) the others so they fixate on just the one they own and hope it does well...quite sad.
@UnnDunn: To be fair they are closer to $150 (Gen 4). I guess it all depends on what Sony does/decides to do and what minimum ssd performance metrics they will allow (or how slow of an nvme ssd will they allow to be installed on the PS5). The whole argument I guess is predicated on that, if they do not have ridiculous ssd performance requirements then you would be able to get relatively cheaper ones (such as a wb blue gen3 for $100) and be good to go. On the other hand if they require something that has the theoretical performance of what is currently in the PS5, then yeah the cost of expansion will be high. As a PC gamer who has been using ssds for years, I know that for gaming purposes you really do not need that fast of an SSD, since at the end of the day all that transfer speed is wasted if your Cpu can't deal with the data fast enough and you are limited to an extent by the cpu anyway. The PS5 may have a fast ssd but in my view part of that is just marketing/bragging rights nothing more (I could be mistaken) with little benefit to actual performance.
@hitmanactual: Oooh we have a tough guy I see here. Wonder if you would have the b**ls to talk like that in real life. Probably got bullied your whole life in the real world lmao, and act all tough on here, so funny and pathetic.
Were you not so lazy, uneducated and had some more money to own multiple systems (which is easy BTW, they only cost $500...) you would not be so over invested or care about how one system does compared to another. Being a fanboy is sad m8.
Going back to the topic at hand, sure you can transfer to external hdd, but to then play it (with the XSX enhancements) it has to get transfered back over into internal ssd, which is a slow process (limited by the slow read speed of external hdd). So that is a massive inconvenience. Furthermore, this is a software feature, so you really think that at some point sony will not implement that feature in as well? If you do, you really are dumb. The crux of the issue is that it seems like XSX will only be able to take in these specialized SSDs (made specifically for XSX), while theoretically, since the PS5 has an nvme slot that can be accessed (relatively easily) once enabled theoretically you could buy any ssd that meets certain minimum qualifications and use it (more options means having to pay less for expanding your storage). Then again, based on your two posts in this thread, I doubt you have the intelligence to understand that.
Both the XSX and the PS5 have this problem. In fact, I would argue this is a bigger problem in the case of the XSX than in the case of PS5, given that at least (theoretically) you should be able to use a good off the rack nvme ssd on a PS5 (once that feature is turned on), which costs around a $100/$120 for 1TB. On the other hand, the Seagate SSD for the XSX is $220, and that SSD is nothing special (performance wise, Seagate also does not make the greatest SSD's). Hopefully in case of XSX more companies will be making the SSD's for that so that the prices drop to the $100/$120 that a decent 1TB nvme SSD should be
The Gamepass wank has gotten a bit thick around here. Seems a lot of fans are hiding behind the potential for Gamepass, not what it's currently offering. It's being used as a crutch of a talking point when being compared to PS5. Unlike Microsoft, Sonys games actually sell so they don't have to give away developers new games for pennies on the dollar before they have a chance to sell. It's like bringing a movie direct to Netflix instead of letting it flourish in theaters.
Despite not offering day one exclusives (Which Xbox's pale in comparison to Playstation's anyway based on sales AND reviews ) PS Plus and PS Now offer as much to play as Gamepass does RIGHT Now, for less money. Here's a list of games for PS Now, all available for DOWNLOAD
https://culturedvultures.com/playstation-now-ps4-games-list/
That doesn't even include what is available in the PS Plus collection for PS5
https://www.pushsquare.com/guides/all-ps-plus-collection-games-on-ps5
Top this off with new Plus games every month and it should be easy to see the value. FF7 remake just released on it. It's a whole different ball game from Games with Gold.
Here's what's offered on Gamepass for more money a month, excluding those that got the 1 dollar deal.
https://www.eurogamer.net/articles/xbox-game-pass-games-list-this-month-price-6400
Looking at those lists, remind me how Gamepass is "the best deal in gaming"? Gamepass is just better marketed because it's all Microsoft has to stand on at this point. Sony could combine Plus and Now and rebrand it but they offer options instead of making a subscription the main selling point of their brand. People still think PS Now is streaming only. Seems many are falling for MS 'smoke and mirrors.
All I see here is someone who can not afford more than one system complaining and trying to make themselves feel better about things and grasping at straws. Work harder and maybe you can have both a PS5 and an XSX (and a gaming rig). Dumb fanboys being fanboys because they are lazy...
Gamepass is an amazing deal, not only do you get a ton of games (and MS games) day 1, but you also get EA games as well, which is another sizeable library. Furthermore, it is available across both Xbox and PC games, which is great. What Playstation has in terms of such a service is not comparable. Playstation Now is a streaming cloud service, as such it is nothing special and using such a service to play games is meh(coming from someone with a 400mbps internet connection), the input lag and compression of video signal just does not lead to an enjoyable experience. Playstation Plus is like Xbox Games with Gold (maybe a bit better especially for PS5 owners since it provides some amazing games for free), but still the two are around the same ballpark. The thing is, Xbox GamePass Ultimate is $60ish a year which is great deal.
