@Rushaoz: I'd expect Scorpio to go with a new semi-custom Zen chip given its release schedule. Jaguar seems horribly antiquated to make full use of the Polaris (or possibly even Vega) architecture.
@r31ya: That will actually be a realistic price next holiday season. It would make sense to offer that kind of bundle to counter Scorpio - which is supposed to run an Oculus Rift.
Too bad it's being released in 4th quarter 2017. 6 TFLOPs roughly translates to a GTX 980 TI in the performance realm, but we'll be seeing GDDR6 by 1st and 2nd quarters of 2018. GDDR6 is HBM3, or what Nvidia and AMD refer their Volta and Navi architectures. Seems like Scorpio will be horribly antiquated within 6 months of its launch.
4.2 TFLOPs isn't going to stop an exodus of console players looking for the best graphical experience. You would realistically need something closer to 6 TFLOPs (equivalent to an OC'd GTX 980Ti); because resolution is only half of the formula. The other half is high and stable FPS. I couldn't be bothered to play a AAA title on a 4K display unless I have a stable FPS of 45+. And that's quite a step down from the 2K/144hz that I'm currently using on my PC. There's no substitute for a high FPS - it gives gamers a competitive advantage on multiplayer games.
Nintendo shouldn't bother with a handheld unless it's going to compete with smartphones. With the 3DS only selling 1/3 as well as its predecessor, Nintendo should be well aware by now that smart devices are the new medium by which the masses get their mobile gaming entertainment. The only path to success I can see for the NX is if it turns out to be the "Nintenphone" that gamers have been clamoring for.
Not interested unless if it has a SteamOS dual-boot feature. PS4 exclusives + games from my Steam library playable on my TV w/dualshock 4 might make it worth purchasing.
When this app hits 100 million downloads within the 1st week it launches, will the Nintendo execs rejoice or cry? They've always preached that Nintendo games are best experienced on Nintendo hardware. But it'll become difficult to believe that lie when their iOS/Android mobile games outsell the same console-based games by a ratio of 40-to-1.
