@yamster that golden glow & sound has also given me additional estus flasks. i thought it was humanity, too, but it was still at 00 many times. i looked at my estus count, and it'd be more. i finally caught it later, as it made the sound, it added an estus flask. i'm early on, so i can only kindle to get 10, but i have 19 atm, and i JUST got the firelink soul to the mute lady to increase the amount they use (i'm a faith build if you're wondering why i can keep so many estus flasks unused). i got up to 20, and it seemed to stop at that point. sometimes it was humanity that i got, but just letting you know that the same sound/glow on my head gives me estus flasks, too, and it's usually when i'm going around killing the same area's enemies over & over.
http://darksouls.wikidot.com hey guys, that's another site that details stuff really well. can never have too much info on these games. i really want to give Demon's Souls a try again, but since i have too many games here piling up while i'm addicted to DS, the servers will probably be turned off by the time i got around to trying it. the 1st time, the graphics were really underwhelming, and i had 24 hrs to get a refund at the local Game Xchange. it wasn't worth the money at the time (to me, of course). now, i think i could overlook the graphics, since i know that the beginning doesn't represent the full game, really (and i certainly didn't get into the PvP, PvE aspects).
@Yarvem i believe you did this guide, right? i'm not to far in, and i HATE using guides, but since i hear this game is so difficult (and me not having the demon's souls experience to draw from), i decided to read up & go to several sites around the interwebz (since the game tells you zero). i SO wanted to do a blind run, but when i read of all the intricacies of the weapons leveling & covenants, i decide to use a guide when i get in a bind, or whatnot. all that aside, this is THE best guide on the web, friend. it goes into very detailed layouts of the areas. i appreciate this SO much, as other guides just skip from parts they think are worth mentioning, tell you to beat a few enemies, then start at the next part. the part they brush over ends up being quite alot of enemies, area, items, etc. you, bud, have it covered from brick to brick almost, lol. i just think when someone does a great job, it needs to be pointed out. you, sir, did a fantastic job. i am not very far into the game, but far enough to feel the difference (when i play these areas), but also reading ahead, i can see that the quality continues to be very high, and i want to thank you for that. much respect, and many props are due, as this is the best guide for dark souls on the web (and it's FREE). thanks for your hard work, man!
stupid gamespot editor won't allow me to break up a wall of text by using 'enter'? WTF? this is the dumbest comment section on the web, and the only one that does this to me! so infuriating!!!
thing is, my best friend, Mut, brought a magazine over to my house on July 5th, 2001 that had a one or two page article about this game inside. he was the most excited i had ever seen him about a game (and he played the PC versions, but i never had). he layed down the laundry list of amazing things available in the game, and the genres it mixed (he sounded like John Davidson's friend from EGM, lol). it was seared into my mind as the game to look out for (as he had bout a ps2, and i was happy with my dreamcast, as there were no great games imho). Mut had come over to see the garage apartment i had just moved into, and stayed a few days (he brought his ps2 & we stayed up all hours playing Twisted Metal & Unreal 2 maybe?). unfortunately, he passed away on july 8th (we were sleeping, and he never woke up that morning). he never got to play that amazing game, but every time i play a grand theft auto game (which i have loved more & more with each iteration - IV included), i think about how much he would have enjoyed it. i would probably have never played gtaIII on my own volition, as it didn't appeal to my style of game (i liked RPGs, racing, fighting games at the time). i feel like i'm playing my GTA playthroughs for Mut, as i guarantee he would have loved each one as much as i have. i wish i had a better ending, but that's how i came to love GTA!
not gonna lie, being set in LA will make me extremely disappointed in R*. somewhere new would be great. the NY thing worked cuz the GTA3 one was very plain. GTASA was pretty detailed & had 3 areas, so going with onliy 1 of those that was already pretty spruced up, would be sad to me. they are capable of so much more.
