This is a little old, but I read another article that's more recent (can't find) where Sony implied something similar, plus I highly doubt Sony can afford another substancial loss after the Vita sales failure.

Before I get bashed hear me out. I'm guessing that Microsoft will make the 720 just a huge powerhouse since they have unlimited income at their disposal, and they will do even more with the kinect. However we all know Sony is in financial trouble and has already stated that the PS4 wont be that much more powerful than the PS3. Also I have a feeling Sony will copy the WiiU controller, it already copied the Wii remote and nunchuck.

This is why it would be good:

-The WiiU wouldn't miss out on multiplatform games because of a power gap.

-Developers would be able to build off of each other's ideas better on how to implement the controls.

-People would become more used to this type of control and gameplay.
