If you don't know what I'm talk about,

1) Open a text file.

2) Go to Internet Explorer > History > My Computer. You'll find the text file there.

This is a pretty dumb feature and I want it off. It does this with every file you open on the computer even if you don't use Internet Explorer. Is there anyway to turn this off, or turn off history entirely for IE 8?

I stopped reading there.

By the way I don't believe anyone should be proud of being [insert nationality]. The concept doesn't make any sense to me. Be proud of things you accomplish yourself, not things others have accomplished and that you benefit from.

Tezcatlipoca666

I agree. Be greatful that you are born in a safe, wealthy country. The only thing you have to be proud of is the fact that you were born there, and that isn't a big accomplishment on your part.

effena

So, I guess we should then be neither proud nor disappointed of our nationalities.

[QUOTE="unholymight"][QUOTE="Severed_Hand"]yes, we do get ripped off for interwebz, phonez, and cablez. poutine is great. we do have a military and keep in mind we are a peacekeeping nation. i dont know what a plain accent is, but we have MANY dialects of canadian english coast to coast. We have an abundance of culture. we are a mosaic culture, not a melting pot like the States. You have a buttload of freedom in this country. Severed_Hand
Well, for the freedom part: We don't have many citizens fanatically supporting the value of Free Speech, unlike what seems like parts of the US. We aren't able to own firearms despite some gangsters smuggling them over the border to harm us. Canadian Law recommends that we always take the path of least resistance when confronted by someone who's about to assault us, such as if someone were to make a grab at your backpack you aren't allowed to punch them. More generally, we have politicians using words like "actionable" and "manageable" as if they mean something. We have teachers stressing the importance of developing communication and teamwork skills when these are far too general and unclear what they are.

True. but when it comes to free speech, i never feel oppressed about it. sure, i may not be "politically correct", but that doesnt mean im wrong when i say something. yes, you are able to own firearms. you need to register them first. all of them. canadian law would indeed like you to take the least resistance path. like with the backpack scenario, this law doesn't want you beating the snot out of the guy until he's a bloody pulp. its not saying you can't touch him if you are assaulted. you should go into politics to try and change some things. and i think that may be the problem here. i find canadians are far less interested in politics than our american counterparts. we just tend to settle for whatever.

Because we're less interested in politics, it can make it harder to go in politics, because then those already with higher positions can exploit abilities to prevent anyone else from climbing up while the public does not notice.

We get ripped off for internet, phone, cable. Poutines are not that great. We got no military. Our accent is the plainest. We don't have a culture. I don't see what there is to be proud of here. Someone want to explain why they're proud to be Canadian?

Dr_Brocoli
We do have a military rofl, one thats so good in Afghanistan Canadian commanders were assigned US troops to use that their disposal. We have more cultural than America for instance. We are very multicultural, And poutines are the greatest thing since sliced bread. There destroyed your arguement. Next. P.S. if you dont know what to be proud of you dont deserve to be canadian.

One thing about multiculturality is that the various cultures that make up Canada don't necessarily fit in well with each other. There can be great diversity, but it doesn't mean that each subgroup gets along with each other, nor does it mean they contribute positively to Canadian politics via the responsibilities of activism and informed voting. Poutines can fill you up but the nutrition isn't great! After all, gravy was originally made from beef oil, and the list of ingredients on a package of gravy now is too long for me to remember what was in it. Anyhow, the fries provide calcium, but you're missing a lot of other vitamins. Also, the taste. It is only as good as french fries dipped in sauce. The cheese does not melt completely into the gravy. Our military is very small. It is almost scary how much resources we have here in Canada and what little power we have to defend it in case a shortage broke out.

ok man, let's do a race trade then. You can be American, and I get your spot in Canada.

hammerofcrom

those aren't races. :P

lol, darn, you caught the tater. I still want to trade though TC. It's worth it just for Vancouver. then there's the fishing in the rest of BC.

Well, I'm in Toronto. Geographically, the climate in Vancouver should be great (warm all year long), but socially, the urban areas are likely to be similar to Toronto.

Isn't crime rate an advantage of Canada though?

stedtfeld
Well, there are some areas in the GTA with some rather extremely under-educated residents who does not think much of robbery. In the US you are allowed firearms to protect your homes, but here while we do not, the problem is that some ruffians have gotten them from across the border. Canada has a diverse culture, and almost too diverse. Many of the immigrants are from countries whose educational standard is lower, and also some are refugees, which poses a problem when they don't understand some of the fundamental principles and responsibilities of conducting oneself.

Stopped reading right there.

Oh come on, I've tried lots of combinations of cheese, gravy, and fries (I worked in Hero Burgers fast food for some time). Poutine, the taste itself is not more delicious than a fine piece of seafood, and the nutrition itself is not finer than a bowl of vegetables.

Yeah I wouldn't mind being American.

What are the major differences between canadian and US ways of living that are swaying your opinion?

Well here it seems a general trend is that we Canadians tend to be more pansy than Americans, and you can tell this even by looking at the tone of news reporters on television. We're more quiet, but we're more sneaky than Americans. I don't like it too much.
