The desktop would be cheaper but I don't think you would lose much performance between the 2.gmaster456

How about lasting me longer in the long run and the desktop is actually more expensive

I pretty much agree with theragu40. Of course if you really want a gaming laptop the one you proposed will run all games very well.

Don't expect good portability though. I recently bought a 10.1" netbook to replace my 14" laptop which I found too heavy. 17" will be brutal.

I'm looking at powerful desktops as well its just that I'm in a 1 bedroom apartment so all the space I can save the better,I figured this would be great to fold up and put away when not in use.

[QUOTE="04dcarraher"] Yes, have fun. But if it was me I would go and get a total AMD build (AM3) to save money while keeping the performance.04dcarraher

I already have the Alienware thinking about going with a Amd build from ibuypower but all the options are so confusing

You already have the i7 machine or getting ready to get it? Well this is the setup you want from ibuypower just change the GPU http://www.ibuypower.com/Store/Configurators.aspx?mid=335

I have the Alienware already but I have 21 days to send it back,I started looking at ibuypower but theres so many options I get confused like the memory or the noise reduction

A 5870HD may be a powerful card, but it still can't max out Crysis at 60+ FPS at full AA and AF at 1080p+ resolutions. Hence why people have multicard setups (although that still won't get the job done, at least not with Crysis).

Anyway, if you're thinking of getting a 5870 just make sure the rest of your components are up to snuff. No sense in blowing $600 on a GPU only to have its performance bottlenecked by a merely average CPU, low RAM, or slow HDD.
