Nintendo is raking in large amounts of gross profit for every Wii sold, says Nikko Citigroup games analyst Soichiro Fukuda, while components manufacturers are reaping the rewards of the console's success. Sony, which invested heavily devloping the PS3's core Cell chip and Blu-ray technology, is not expected to turn a profit on each PS3 sold until 2009 at the earliest, while Microsoft's gaming division is hoping to make a profit for the first time in 2008. Cheap, better marketing, really accessible to gaming idiots who comprise most of the populaiton and market.osirisomeomi

i agree - do you also notice that whenever you see a catalogue they only seem to advertise the 360 pro, especially at EB/gamestop? I'll bet most consumers don't even know there is a core system thats close to the wii's price

sony went with a cheaper diode in the ps2 version SCPH 5XXXX otherwise known as the version 9/10. This was also in an effort to lower manufacturing costs and had a disasterous failure rate (approx. 1 in 5 in our store died wihin a month) and there were reports about it all over the net. Its well known in the ps2 repair community that sony has a reputation for lower quality when it says it is lowering costs ESPECIALLY when it comes to lasers.

Actually the warrantys are fixing a damn thing

There fixing broken 360's

-Maddog-

Errr, how?

You'll just get back another refurbished 360..that will most likely die on you....untill MS release the new and smaller CPU units..that produce LESS heat, and that might not even fix it. Its been 2 years and MS still haven't fixed this MAJOR problem. The problem seems to be the cooling for the GPU, and MS wont admit it...lol.

By far the worse built hardware in console history....shame.

absolute rubbish - i used to repair ps2's for a living and can tell you categorically that the ps2 laser issue affected 1 in 2 ps2's we sold, far outstripping the xbox360's failure rate. Moreover, most of the time the the laser would 'conveniently' fail just after the 12 months ran out (even quicker if you bought a v9 SCPH 5XXXX wchich died right out of the box!!) and quite alot of the time sony would refuse to fix it saying there was no problem as the ps2 could read some games - my opinion is quite alot of their success is due to the laser issue - it is BY FAR the worst console we have sold through our store and we've been selling game consoles since the nes!!!!

I think their strategy of offering 3 sku's is just confusing consumers and doesn't offer good value. I'ld scrap the core and change the drive on the elite to a HDDVD drive. The core is just plain crap!!

I'm looking forward to yet another incomprehensible review from gamespot's Jeff which will once again deviate soooo much yet again from what every other site awards the game - i'm also looking forward to reading some of the blind acceptance of his review from ppl on these boards

For me gamespot scores are looking inaccurate right now, for example,

WARIO WARE outscores BIOSHOCK.

IM pretty sure people think bioshock is better than warioware.

Im using IGN Scores until the old review system is back...

CaseyWegner

ign is pretty notorious for scoring games higher than the average.

gamespot is pretty notorious for scoring games lower than the average.

I have to agree - gamespot reviews were always substandard and rarely conformed to to the consensus of other credible gaming sites (bioshock comes to mind). I think that since the beginning they have been consulting clairvoyants and a dartboard to form the basis of their reviews with Jeff being the centrepiece of their inspiration.
