I think they've got it - they are number one in all three territories (see vgchartz.com) and preorders for mario galaxy are looking good (ranked 7th on amazon.com and wii is ranked 3rd). I agree that the hardware is clearly inferior and doesn't offer a better power/cost ratio compared to 360 and the ps3, which is a travesty since most people will buy it over those 2 machines due to the price advantage.

As for sony they'll have a sales boost from the price cut but software wise, the machine sux. Microsoft, on the other hand, have the games but they need to drop the price and stop making so many damn SKU's - the core needs to go and the pro needs to drop by $US50 if they ever want to challenge the Wii.I think they have some scope to do this with the introduction of the falcon 65nm bringing costs down, however they took a major hit with the RROD debacle (and rightly so) so they are reluctant to drop the price and instead seem to have opted for a game bundling proposition. This is ABSOLUTELY STUIPID. Microsoft think they can challenge the wii with the core but its clearly being shunned, they'll never win this war if they continue down that path. I'm predicting that Ms and sony will finish equal second in the end with the wii on top.

I've been waivering as to whether to buy one especially since i went through 3 ps2's (in aus they only give you one year warranty and the laser of the ps2 conveniently breaks just after the 12 month period). I am wondering if there any reports of DRE's with the current ps3's as I wasted alot of money on ps2 consoles. Other than that I would really like one

the 360 - ps3 is still a WaitStation 3 so i would not want to pay $400 for a blu ray movie player.

[QUOTE="ColoradoKindBud"]

First of all, your "33% unreliable" is complete crap, it's not that bad.

But beyond that, why would anyone want to defend the issue? It's a crappy situation. MS did the only thing they could, they extended the warranty to 3 years to take care of it. Yeah, it stinks to send your console in & be without it for 2-4 weeks, but it's better than being stuck with a $400 paperweight.

And the new systems that are being shipped out have been redesigned to alleviate the issue altogether. So again, there's nothing to defend, everyone knows it sucks & MS did the right thing,& you should get your "facts" straight next time.

knufsed

What exactly did you correct me on, for you to tell me to get my facts straight the next time? You only confirmed my point, with even more facts to back it up!

Unless you're talking about the widely used "33% failure rate" number that I used.

Okay, I hear you,.. how about,- a 30% failure rate?!

seriously.

do you have any evidence or are you just going to pull more numbers from your ......

Wasn't there a class action lawsuit over the PS2's DRE? Looks like you've got some explaining to do. Vyse_The_Daring

absolutely, i have to commend microsoft for extending the warranty - sony's conduct on the dre issue was appalling and they did very well in keeping it out of the press

Sure, every system has their share of problems, even the wii, with that whole wrist strap debauchle. But, some problems are worse than others. The ps2 didn't nearly have 33% of it's systems with DREs. Hell, most people I know have used their ps2s for 6-7 years without any problems whatsoever. The 360's overheating and RROD are not only much bigger problems, it's embarassing the sheer amount of 360s that have this problem, and the sheer potential for any 360 purchased on the market today to have that problem. I never heard of people worrying so much about DRE when wanting to purchase a PS2, whereas, every other thread about purchasing a 360 involves someone worrying about the RROD problem and overheating, and wondering whether they should purchase the system at all. Yes, every system has some problems but the 360 is scrutinized because of the sheer severity and massive occurene of these probelms. Shaqneel

what absolute rubbish - i used to work in a video game repair shop in Australia and we used to keep track of ps2's we fixed - the SCPH 5XXXX (version 9/10) ps2 would have a 9.5% failure right out of the box (this occured when sony decided tocut a few costs and change some internal components- they fixed this but kept it out of the press)! Moreover, about 60% of version 3/4's did not survive after 3 years, we found an overall DRE rate of about 18% - quite shocking and made us alot of money in charging for laser replacements as sony's warranty only lasted for 1 year in Aus.

there are people who are on their 5th or 6th 360. that is completely unacceptable. microsoft should give them free games for life or something. to have 5 360's fail and not sue microsoft is a miracle.mistervengeance

there are also alot of people on their 5thps2 - i think sony did a good job keeping the DRE issue out of the press whereas M$ chose to confront it.

Again. This most likely doesn't fix the NUMEROUS problems causing malfunction a RRODs in the Xbox 360. Too many threads about this already.kentaro22

gee are you an engineer?? do you actually own a 360??
