Started Kingdom Hearts Birth By Sleep. Good game so far. I like the change to the battle system :)Balmane
What did they do to the battle system? Did they make it not suck? Did they add strategy and depth to it, like Chain of Memories?

This is epic

This does bother me as it seems we will be paying another $60 to buy a game that consists of stuff that we should have got in the original game. thanks square:?

I imagine all the secret dungeons, optional quests, merchants/towns and freedom of choice will be included. SE are beginning to climb back up to our expectations lol.

Put all that stuff back in with a battle system that doesn't suck, and it will make it a much MUCH better game. All that stuff is what made the FF gameplay engaging in the first place. Exploration Square. Exploration damn it. Don't games like Mass Effect and Fallout selling EXTREMELY well prove ANYTHING to you guys? WE LIKE EXPLORATION

They said that the battle system for FFXIII-2 will be more like an upgraded version of the gameplay for FFXIII but it will be sort of more complex, I think.

Good to know because I do not think they cold maike it less complex without making it a movie

To make it less complex, as I said before, they could go back to any other battlesystem in the FF series -______-

That would be making it more complex, not less. FFI's battle system waqs friggin more complex than this

I found this game to have the deepest and most strategic combat out of the main series entries. This is the first time that you actually had to learn how to fight well. Paradigm building and shifting are skills that come with practice and experience. When people claim they just auto-battle their way through, to me that says that they didn't make it very far into the game cuz they never reached a point where these skills would be relevant. They are particularly key when attempting to 5-star tough enemies. At this point the fight becomes something that you feel your way through because you don't have time to think, you need to react or die. That is why they let you restart fights at anytime, cuz an experieI have cpmnced player knows when they've lost before it happens. Now THAT is deep.

Reading this makes me wonder if you have ever actually played any other Final Fantasy game. The battle system in this one is INCREDIBLY stripped, basic and bare bones. There is no depth here. At all.

He has a very good point; FFXIII might not have the best gameplay, but seriously, pretty much all of the previous Final Fantasies just had Attack, Defend, Summon, and Magic. I think the system for FFXIII, while being slightly strange, is still pretty creative.

I liked the paradigms you could set up, though I'll admit it would've been nicer to control all of your characters. That's probably the only bigger complaint I had about it, aside from getting game-over if your character dies.

But there is no depth to it. At all. It is a shallow as a freaking rain puddle. Attack. Switch paradigms. Attack. No depth. It was alll about simplifying it to make it accessible to even more people

*sigh* Fine, if you're going to complain about the battle system (of alllll the things you could complain about for FFXIII) then go ahead and complain about pretty much every installment before it.

I have complained about many other aspects of the game, as well. The linearity and complete lack of exploration sucks. Teh dialog is bad. I like one of the characters. The story leaves explanations up to a datalog. The datalog isn't voiced (Learn from Mass Effect damn it!). There is no environmental interaction AT ALL. What good are beautiful environments if you cannot explore them or interact with them? They might as well be as barren as the environments in Final Fantasy VII: Crisis Core (The difference is you can explore and interact with those)./ I do not like the lack of towns because I like exploring interesting and different towns. It was cool, especially in FFXII. Snow is an absolute rere. Vanille may actually be more annoying than Tidus. Hope does not seem to be able to express his anger without whining. Lightning is just plain boring. She barely has a personality. It is not enough to care about her. Do you feel better now?

I joined this union cuz I'm a fan. Now I may be new around here but my posts thus far speak for themselves in terms of both knowledge of, and affinity for the series. My first game was Final Fantasy IV (then called II) on SNES and since that time I have watched Squaresoft grow from the little jrpg company that could into a multimedia, epic-fantasy institution. They make movies, action figures, jewlery and even have orchestras and cover bands play their stuff around the world. As a long-time fan of the fantasy genre, I can tell you that success like this is completely unprecedented. I back Square's plays cuz i want to see them succeed. Every time a Final Fantasy comes out I say i don't like it cuz it could never be better than the last. But when I give it a chance, it always becomes my new favourite game. SE deserves a better class of fan, and it's up to us to give it to them.

Then you know there is no depth to Final Fantasy XIII's battle system. Otherwise, I ain't buying it.

Square might have deseved a better class of Fan rright up until about 2004 or 2005. After the merger, though, they are not the same company. They care about one thinbg: Money. They will put out any FF product, no matter how crappy, because they know it will sell
