After the not so great reception Cyberpunk got a move like this doesn't surprise me.
In fact, the negative sentiment still surrounding Cyberpunk probably is doing much more than any of us imagine when it comes to some of the high level executive decisions going on over at CD Projekt Red.
I just hope that negativity doesn't scare them off to the point where they don't want to venture out of their comfort zone and explore other new IPs. Making a brand new franchise is always a gamble, especially when you have a blockbuster almost guaranteed franchise you can always fall back on for a quick buck. The audience for the latter is always going to be there and takes a lot of risk out of the equation.
While I welcome another Witcher game I would actually like to see CD Projekt Red be known for more than one franchise.
I think gamers saw the writing on the wall well before Gamestop did.
When you start to move away from your target audience in favor of more "fad type" models of business you eventually will lose the very base that made you your fortune in the beginning.
Factor in a total lack of care for that same base by ways of nickel and diming them to the point of outright highway robbery and it should come as no surprise as to why your business is a shell of its former self.
I think the move to a more "collectible" business model has done little to help them so far and was more an act of desperation than anything else.
Never count Gamestop out but if things continue on the way they currently are we might lose an outlet that most of us have interacted with in some form or another over the years.
@videogameninja: They use the same voice lines as always. They didn't re-record anything, it seems.
Cool!
Thanks for clarifying that. I have heard lots of differing opinions about this remake over the last few months (most of them not good.) so I'm glad someone can dispel some of the rumors going on about it that are unwarranted.
People said these acquisitions would have virtually no effect on big name titles like COD and were saying that anyone who was raising concerns was overreacting.
Maybe it's just me but I'm just not that interested in this entry in the franchise.
I can't really pinpoint as to why. Perhaps it's just AC fatigue? I don't know.
I must commend Ubisoft on foregoing the annual AC release in favor of more spaced out entries but perhaps I'm still suffering from the back to back releases for what feels like the last 15 years and that is still clouding my judgement.
No doubt hardcore fans of the franchise will be happy at this news but perhaps those who fall into a camp more similar to mine own the rumored AC reboot might be the thing to get us back into the game.
From the moment the news of this remake was announced there was a lot of push back that this was nothing more than a cash grab for Naughty Dog and truthfully there is a lot of good arguments to substantiate that claim.
Personally, I don't see the need to rush out and buy this game day 1 considering how well the original , let alone all the remasters, have aged but I stand by the notion that for those who have NEVER played the original Last of Us in any of its forms this latest installment may be the best one if they are curious about finally diving in. Bare in mind I am saying this as someone who absolutely adored the original game and feel it is one of the best/most influential games I have played in the last 10 years.
That being said, I have heard many complaints about the voice acting and some of the redesigned character models. I have no idea of knowing if this is true or not but I have heard some people say that Joel's voice is completely changed? 🤷♂️ Once again, not sure if that is valid but if it is I can see how that would realllllllyyyy upset fans.
Was this remake at this point in time truly necessary? Or was it's emergence nothing more than a way to capitalize on the soon to be released HBO series or if nothing else to be a cash grab for Naughty Dog?
Guess we will have to leave that one up for gamers to decide.
