Read dead seems to be quickly becoming Kojima's "white whale." I remember hearing an interview a while back about how Kojima looked up to the first game. No doubt the open world and mission based themes in MGSV were a direct result of this admiration.

While I thought MGSV was an amazing game (easily my own personal best of 2015.) I think it didn't quite live up to the standards set by the previous entries in the series. I think this was due to a few reasons (most noteably Konami's issues with the game's development/lack of completion.) but I can't overlook the possibility that PERHAPS this was due to making the game more "open world" and "mission/side mission like."

I feel this is a big issue with open world games. After a while the narrative can become muddled and lose focus. Rockstar games are guilty of this as well, maybe even moreso.

Kojima is a master of what he does. IMO he should focus on what makes his games among the best in the world and let rockstar focus on what they know best.

Not trying to cause controversy or anything (or am I?) but I’ve had this nagging feeling ever since it was released that Overwatch would be championed by the gaming community (the journalists and media.) as being the prime ambassador for Game of the Year.

All the pieces of the proverbial puzzle seem to be in place in regards to its ascension to such a prestigious role. I mean, it’s multiplatform, developed by a very powerful and influential company, and as of late seems to be checking off all the “proper” PC boxes on the ballot; the latter of which the gaming community (mostly journalists.) and media seem to eat up like it’s going out of style.

I can’t help but feel like the gaming media is putting emphasis on all these points when choosing between the different candidates. Should they? Perhaps. But still, I can’t help but feel there’s something more going on.

I still remember that cringe-worthy speech done by the guy who accepted the award on Overwatch’s behalf at the VGA’s a few weeks ago. Forgive me for paraphrasing but when he accepted the award I believe he said something along the lines of the game promoting

"-a message of hope, of diversity, a message about a bright and hopeful future. And these are all thing we really believe everyone needs a little bit of RIGHT NOW-"

This kind of stuck out in my mind, especially considering the political climate at the time (the presidential election had just wrapped up and people were rioting.). I don’t know, maybe I’m looking too far into it (I’m sure I am… lol, I do that.) but I just thought the way he delivered what he said was a little odd, like there was something behind it.

Either way, Overwatch seems to be the “right” choice from a “let’s try to please as many people as we can” point of view. Not sure if that means it’s truly deserving of such a title but…

@Metallicwolf29: Here's hoping they do. A full HD remaster set would be nice. i don't see any reason as the game gets closer to release that they wouldn't do that. It's just smart business to do so. Almost all of Shenmue's existing fanbase would purchase it and those that get lost in the hype of shenmue 3 would no doubt check out what all the fuss is about.

Let's just hope that if they do that that it is a good port possibly with some nice added features.

Shenmue... this is right up there with games people have been waiting for like The Last Guardian, Resident Evil 2 Remake or the Final Fantasy 7 Remake. Let's hope it delivers on all fronts.

Yu Suzuki (the creator.) says he is spending his nights at the studio working on it. Nice to hear he is still passionate as ever about this project. That's something that seems to be dwindling in the game industry as of late.

I still remember the "good ol'" days and popping that baby in my dreamcast for the first time. I remember the visuals just blowing me away from the the start and the focus and attention to detail being head and shoulders above anything else. I'm not sure if this new game will specifically recapture that magic but here's hoping.

Shenmue 3 has had a rocky few years in limbo but I for one am glad it's being made and I think gamer's everywhere (even if they don't necessarily care for it.) should check out the old ones if they do release an HD remaster (which seems to be another trend these days lol.).

Any Shenmue 3 kickstarter/backers here?

I've been waiting for this since the game came out. Super excited. I really wished they shipped the game with this on day 1 but this situation seems to be the norm nowadays with game developers. They have deadlines just like everyone else I guess.

It was a gamble to release it so many months later ( after all, most of your fanbase purchases the game the first month or so.) but I can also see the benefit of doing so. It gives people a reason to get excited about an "old" game again. It also keeps the game relevant even though a game of this caliber may not necessarily need that.

On a different note I'm hoping the survival mode is similar to uncharted 2's where you had 3 lives to complete a humongous level in addition to waves. That was insanity but extremely fun and satisfying.

@gameroutlawzz:

I totally understand your skepticism. If it is done well it can still work but you are right, in the back of my mind there are still doubts. this is also part of the reason i am not watching any pre-released video related stuff on what to expect in the game. i want to be surprised and give it a fair shake. This game more than any in the series is more akin to a real horror move so if you go in knowing stuff it could hurt the overall experience.

Way to go on exploring everything in the demo, glad to know I'm not the only one lol.

This game is make or break for capcom and resident evil. If it doesn't do well critically or financially this could very well be the last time capcom tries to "save" the series. Here's hoping.

"There's going to be a 'before and after Assassin's Creed movie' for sure."

The movie isn't even out yet and just like ubisoft they have decided to milk the hell out of it. I will say this though, I think it will be a decent movie thanks in part to the fact that the game's never really had an engrossing narrative.

Like most RE vets I held my breath when they announced it as being a FPS style. Having played through all renditions of the demo my fears, for the most part, have been quelled. The atmosphere, creepiness, puzzle solving... all of it. It's all there. Other than the lack of 3rd person I would swear I was playing an RE game from the past. That's always good in my books. Hope they sprinkle in a good narrative as well. Not just a "you're a no name avatar stuck in a house and must escape" type thing. Really hoping it delivers.
