Before I clicked on the article I thought it would be about him saying that story is neglected in games now a days and that it doesn't really matter. I think this was predominantly thanks in part to Overwatch being included in the article heading.
As much as I don't want to admit that he and I share similar views on anything, there is one thing he is unfortunately correct in saying. Story as of late is being neglected in games. He is right in saying that back when graphics were crude they had to rely heavily on story to weave an intricate web of immersion in a world.
It's easy for developers now a days to overlook this crucial component when crafting a game because "well y'know, we gotta make that cliff in the background look super ultra realistic" or "we have to focus on making every fiber of that marines clothing look like real fabric."
I'm not saying story should be developers primary focus when making a game, just that it shouldn't be an afterthought.
But then again, this guy believes he lives in the Matrix so....
This game… there’s something about it that has me really interested in it but at the same time I’m a little skeptical.
A delay of a few days isn’t too big a deal, heck all the fuss may just be over different regions seeing as how media entertainment is released on different days in different countries. However, if they issue a notice of another delay (a longer one.) that might be signs of something.
I watched the first 2 resident evil movies back in the day and by the glare of Wesker’s sunglasses I wish I never had laid eyes upon them in the first place.
They were so far removed from the original story that when I was done viewing each one I wasn’t sure if I had seen something in the RE universe or some random action movie that just so happened to have zombies in it.
I did like how they threw Jill and Nemesis in the 2nd one but still everything was so ridiculous that it couldn’t make up for how far they had strayed from the original material.
KONAMI needs to pull a “Hail Mary” in order to win back the gaming community let alone the minds of gamers in general. With Kojima leaving their company (and the way it all went down.) it’s hard to really pinpoint what game/franchise could even win gamers back.
I know KONAMI still has a few very well respected franchises under their belt (Silent hill, Castlevania, etc…) but other than Metal Gear Solid and FIFA those games probably won’t be pulling in the big numbers they seek. And yes, I do realize now that any new Metal Gear Solid game will probably be received very poorly and most likely do worse sales wise in part due to Kojima’s absence. After all, I haven’t exactly heard people getting excited over Metal Gear Solid Survive yet.
They kind of put themselves in a very precarious position but the truth of the matter is I’m not even sure they really care anymore.
Yeah, games that hit the 10 million mark are definitely in a higher league in terms of their broad appeal to gamers as well as the mainstream casual player. Things like GTA, Halo, Mario, Zelda, and other heavy hitters usually occupy these spaces.
Heard it was one of Amazon's top selling games during Christmas.
Pretty good numbers (even though they are shipped.) but it still has a ways to go to reach the goal set out by Hajima Tabata and the studio. Pretty sad in this day and age when games need to sell millions upon millions of copies to be considered a success (and I release the 10 million was a personal goal in this case.).
It's not uncommon now a days to hear developers saying how many units of a game need to be sold to break even before the game even launches. I guess it's because the resources, financial investment, and time are on a much higher level than they have ever been before before.
