@gr4h4m833zy: I played it right after another go-around with the original Resident Evil 4 and then the remake (big RE4 fan). It's one of the reasons I gave Village a try, hoping it would be a return to form. But the way they did the guns and Ethan's perpetual whininess, plus the lame first-person view, it just didn't sit well with me. The guns looked cheap.
@lukeneves: For me, it's not even the voice acting. Horrible voice acting and corny one-liners is part of the Resident Evil legacy. It's the damn guns. I don't know how to explain it, but the controls felt light? Almost like a 2000 shooter where there's no control, and the guns feel weak.
@xophaser: I can handle a first-person shooter, but Resident Evil's greatness came from being a great third-person shooter. Why in the world they switched to the stupid "hand waving in front of face" view, I have no idea. And yeah, why not give people at least a chance to play in third?
@lukeneves: That was what shocked me about the game. They have a true masterpiece to go by (Resident Evil 4), but the clunky controls were present from the first time you entire Village. How do you mess up gun controls in a Resident Evil game? It's definitely not a terrible game like 6 was, but I'd have given it a 6 at best.
This game is nowhere close to a 9. I've stop relying on online reviews for almost any game and go straight to aggregate gamer scores because they're more honest. Lying about games like this costs you credibility.
I played this game directly after Resident Evil 4. I wasn't expecting Resident evil 4, but I also wasn't expecting subpar gun graphics and "feel" and clunky gameplay. The environments are also sterile and looked almost like they re-skinned Resident Evil 7 scenes (what's with all the dirty kitchen environments in the last two games?).
Mostly, it all comes down to the guns, though. There was a glaring drop in quality between Resident Evil 4 original and this. I'd actually rather play the mid-2000s game. Ethan is also just a pain to play with. It's like trying to save a baby from itself. And of course, first person makes it feel not like a Resident Evil game in the first place.
I really hated it, but I can see how diehard fans would at least be pleased it's not Resident Evil 6 bad.
