I played Half Life 2 offline just a few days ago. I was also able to play Tomb Raider anniversary offline. Sorry, mang. I don't know what the problem could be.

When I start Steam and I am not connected to the internet, Steam asks if I want to use offline mode. So I just hit yes, and I am able to play my games. This is how it should work for you too.

Herrick

I have wireless internet, so I am always connected. I just installed this upgrade today when I started my steam application.

I just installed the off-line upgrade from steam. i cannot start up HL2 in off-line. i get a message that you need to be connected to steam to start up this application. I thought this upgrade would allow you to play your games in the off-line mode. is there a way to play HL2 (and my other games) in off-line mode?

here are my pc specs: Dell Dimension XPS Gen 2: P4 3.0ghz w/800mhz/ht technology, 1024 mb @400mhz memory, ATI 128 mb 9800 pro graphics card, 19"Acer widescreen.i am wanting to upgrade, i am going to double the memory to 2000 and am buying a new video card, which would be better for my system (with the 2000 memory) x1950 pro 256 or x1950gt 256? this will be my last upgrade until i buy a whole new system, so i want this to last awhile. thanx

even though my system is a little dated by the current standards, i have not had any problems with my system.  my video card did go out on me at one time, but Dell sent over a tech to replace it, no charge for the service call or video card, it was still under their 3 year warranty.
