Yea that game was pretty fun. Haven't played it in a long time myself, maybe I need to dig it out and give it a go.

Deus Ex really has an excellent story. The characters, plot and setting really are all just amazing; can't get enough of it.

Freespace1 and 2 fall in here as well for me. Both great games with an enjoyable story. Of course some one might say it just has the standard 'big enemy arrives; death is inevitable" but it really is more than that, especially in the second one.

However really you want a Half Life fan to be the director...too many of these games to movies they changed so much it was barely the same story. AVP is a good example...diffrent story to the game or the book...just some random made up crap.

Its like LotR the director was a fan so he stuck true to the book and didnt go making stuff up and just loosely keeping the theme and it turned out great.

For most games - movies biggest problem is the games dont really have any plot...no characters of note...for example Doom. Whats the story? they have to make one up to give it depth...and they employ a series of the worst writers ever to walk the earth...or do it themselves in their coffee break. Conan1985

One of the best summaries of the situation I have read. It's so true: the movies never really stick to the sequences and ideas of the game. If they did make a Half Life movie, of course you won't see everything from the game, there just isn't nearly enough time.

But the way most game to movie transitions are working these days, the Half Life movie would have Gordon Freeman being an ex-Navy Seal working in Area 51 as a mercenary, and the aliens would have been genetecially engineered by Dr. Scott, the new head bad guy. Basically, it would be a giant ass on a movie screen.

There still is a grind in EVE: money. You have to have money to purchase ships and equipment, to get insurance and store your clone data. Then there is the time management grind where you need to train skills in real time, but you don't need to be in the game.

I need Half Life 2: Episode 2. I've been waiting far too long for it.

I'll also get Crysis, but for some reason I'm not going crazy for it like I am for Ep 2.

As for Mass Effect, I thought that was slated for release sometime next year.

Edit: nope, I'm crazy, it's coming November.

My best advice I can give to anyone: just never play an MMO. They currently are all a waste of time and money by being just a sink for both. A sink with no end. And, while it will be pretty fun, it really just isn't as gratifying as any other game.

Compare beating Half Life 2 to playing some CS. Half Life, you go through the story, enjoy it (or not), and choose to do it again or whatever; there is an adventure present. CS, you just replay the same stuff and attempt to beat other players. Now, not that that's bad; I really enjoy CS. However, an MMO isn't like CS where you play a few rounds, maybe an hour every once in a while. MMOs demand that you play a TON, and constantly, and there's always that end game content/equipment/gear/whatever that you need to get to. Then the next patch comes out, and you need to do it again. And then again. And then again. MMO's can be fun, and WoW especially, but in the end I find it to be lacking the enjoyment I get from playing a single player (or a coop) with a good campaign and the quick log in & out action of CS.

Just my 2c

Tiberium Universe. Red Alert was cool, but I hated Red Alert 2.

FPS, RTS and RPG the most.  I do play Space Sims from time to time, older ones at least, as there hasn't been much since Freelancer, and that hardly counts.

Freespace and Freespace 2 are some of my all time favorite games, up there with the likes of Deus Ex and Half Life. I might have to load it up for a replay now that you mention it.
