The problem's neither piracy nor anti-piracy measures, but the quality of the game.

It won't drop below the 50's even in intense firefights with everything on high and dynamic lights turned on, and that's including 16xAF and 4xAA

As of right now, the HD4850 goes for ~$180, and it kills any game. But if you wait a little, you could catch the HD4870 for ~$260 (with rebates) off Newegg.

SLI and Crossfire configurations are always a bad option. Few games support them to their fullest.

Unless you're planning on playing on a resolution higher than 1920x1200, don't bother with SLI or 1GB (single) cards.

A single HD4870 will run any single game out there right now at its maximum settings. It can even run Crysis with everything on high/very-high @ 1680x1050 @ 30+fps

I'd recommend a completely different setup. Get:

Intel C2Q Q6600 + Zalman 9700 heatsink

4GB of DDR 800 RAM

Gigabyte GA-EP35C-DS3R mobo

650W PSU

Radeon HD4850 (Gigabyte, MSI, Sapphire are great brands)

Windows Vista Home Premium 64-bit

You'll save more than $200, yet receive the exact same performance. Trust me, there is less than 1% performance increase between DDR3 RAM and DDR2 RAM.

Try Ubuntu Linux. It is very user-friendly, but it is quite different from Windows.

Unless you're planning to play 2 games that make use of it (UT3 and GRAW2), then there's absolutely no reason to wate $100 in one.

Get a Lenovo. Seriously, they're extremely light-weight, and are increidbly powerful. Perfect for school.

I said 7800's and 7900's, so that includes all the models. Sure, the 7900GS is a bit slower, but the rest are much better.
