so why is it that this is a bad review? has anyone that is complaining actually played it? i know you wanted this game to be great, and to you it probably is, but playing it objectively, one has to make some kind of decision based on the actual game.
the videogame industry is about progress, and unfortunately, you can't make the same game twice and have it get the same reception.
@gamergath there has been some speculation that he could possibly be voicing a younger Solid Snake, and that is why he isn't reprising his role as Big Boss. the small voicing that is heard from Big Boss sounds very similar, so it would stand to reason that that might not be such a far fetched idea. plus, i don't understand why they would terminate a relationship with one of the icons of the series.
@sam441 says the guy with the Solid Snake picture as his icon; Metal Gear wears more influences on it's sleeve than almost any game series out there, and whether you like it or not, it's one of the most prolific series in the history of videogames.
@SirNormanislost it's not okay, and you're simply being semantic. if this were a purely character-driven decision, that would be different. there are plenty of films, novels, and even videogames with racist, sexist, or homophobic characters. within a narrative structure, those kinds of things work because they are fleshing out a world in which these characters are able to exist. if Lara Croft went around killing men simply because they were men, it would still be understandable within that narrative structure; so within said structure that motivation is being used to further the story or plot. what would be different is if the developer specifically made Tomb Raider as propaganda against men or used their game as a tool to show how terrible men are with the express insinuation that it is awesome to kill men specifically because they are men.
Kratos has never once exhibited any direct hatred toward women in any previous game, even though he has fought or killed quite a few. in any other game (and even this one), those women were obstacles, not objects of hate. they weren't killed because they were women, they were killed because they were enemies that happened to be women. the simple act of making a trophy that has in no way any connection to character development becomes express opinion of said developer. please see that.
seriously, i can't believe there aren't more people who get this. maybe one day you will grow up, or maybe you won't. why perpetuate a stereotype that games are run by misogynistic idiots? and honestly, the complaints about Resident Evil 5 were totally reasonable; if anyone actually looked into the actual reasons these things were offensive instead of giving a knee-jerk reaction, they could see that.
and just because there is extreme violence in a game doesn't make it okay for that violence to be portrayed in any way directed at a specific gender, race, or ethnic group; especially when it comes to that fact that this was in no way designed to give more insight into what Kratos' motives are, but sintead was a way to break down the forth wall and have the developer give the player a high five over the sick fantasy of stomping in a woman's face.
how do people still support this company? i'm not trying to make the biggest deal in the world about this, but this isn't the first time that EA has exhibited some shady business practices. in the past couple years, EA has effectively made sure that i will never buy any product they produce. for the same reasons people don't shop at Walmart, eat at McDonalds, or anything else in that vein, why would you support a videogame company that has no regard for either their employees or consumer base?
i've said this before regarding the Medal Of Honor series and Dice, but there is not much i can imagine EA doing to get me to purchase of game of theirs again. they have some pretty shady and distasteful business practices, and it's not worth it to support them.
