Heavy Rain - Glitch'd

Remember my last blog saying how great I thought Heavy Rain was? I still think that. But now my experience has been brought to a halt.

I cannot load my saved game.

All I get is a black screen and the PS3 freezes up. I've tried Chapter Select. The only thing I haven't tried is a new game but even if that does work, I couldn't continue knowing all my personal choices were put into the other save.

So this sucks. I can't play this awesome game, meaning I will probably get behind on my "games I need to beat" craze.

I just hope there's a fix before a spoiler hits.

Kotaku's Article on the Problems

Rain's Coming... (brief intro spoilers)

I beat Assassin's Creed 2 about fifteen minutes before I left to pick up Heavy Rain. Mission 1 done. Phew!

Well I just played about an hour of Heavy Rain, up to where Ethan's chapter ended and Shelby's chapter started.

Wow.

Simply wow.

No movie, game, book, anything narrative has made me felt the way this game just did. Yeah I got the smile of picking the child up; it was infectious, I couldn't help it! But what I am talking about is after the mall scene.

Never have I felt so sorry for any character in a medium, let alone video games. But Heavy Rain hit it. Bringing Shaun back and just seeing how much he had changed since it all went down. Living the different atmosphere that Ethan now lived in; how it was such crap compared to what he had. His life was hell.

You could see it with the actions. Urging to get some time with his child but Shaun wants nothing to do with Ethan. And then sitting Ethan down at the kitchen table while Shaun watches cartoons, you could feel all of Ethan's pain right there.

I'm having a couple little control issues with the game and then the voice acting could be better for what this is, but otherwise it has already wowed me.

Wow.

Less Than a Month

For all of you looking forward to some games in the next month, let me remind you that three great games are going to be released fairly soon.

  • Heavy Rain - February 23rd
  • Final Fantasy XIII - March 9th
  • God of War III - March 16th

My plan? My plan is to beat Assassin's Creed 2 before Heavy Rain releases next week. And before Final Fantasy XIII releases I need to beat God of War 1 & 2 again and beat Heavy Rain. Then, during spring break I will play Final Fantasy XIII until God of War III comes out; I'll beat God of War III then go back to Final Fantasy XIII.

All the while trying to beat games on my DS and PSP when not at my place.

...

There is a lot to do.

Thank you, Bioware

I must say that Bioware has done a fantastic job this generation of consoles and I want to write a thankyou blogfor the great work they have done.

The original Mass Effect is one of my favorite titles of the generation. It offered a compelling narrative and solid gameplay. The game wasn't without its problems but they were overshadowed by how great the overall product was.

Dragon Age: Origins was then released. This game offered a great tale and superb gameplay. I have yet to beat this title but I have logged in 40+ hours and I've been enthralled with every one.

Mass Effect 2, the sequel to one of my favorite titles, rocks it even harder than the first. The gameplay is tighter, refined, and more enjoyable, plus the universe is longer and the sequel fixed a lot of the problems of the first. I just have to ask Bioware:

Please, never put scanning planets for resources into a game again.

Again, thank you Bioware for the terrific experiences. Can't wait for more from you guys.

Buying a Bunch...

Looks like, along with those four other games I am for sure buying, I may be buying a few more through a deal. If I make up my mind I could pick up:

  • Bioshock
  • Mirror's Edge
  • The Lord of the Rings: Conquest
  • Bionic Commando
  • Tomb Raider: Underworld

For $60. All of those experiences, lackluster or terrific, for the price of a full game. Since I bought Dead Space for cheap I've been on a little mind kick of telling myself to look for cheaper titles. I need to play through Bioshock again, I've wanted to play through Mirror's Edge, I loved SW: Battlefront and the demo of LotR: CQ seemed fun, unsure of Bionic Commando but it would proably be enjoyable, and I enjoyed the TR series a lot on the PSone and while her new adventures haven't been the greatest I would like to pick this one up.

So I suppose I'll find out in the morning whether or not I purchase the titles.

What to buy?

Let's just say that I am a very indecisive person. Many times when there is a choice to be made between to products, I stand there for a long time thinking of what I want more. So here I am asking my fellow gamers to help me out with a few purchases so I don't waste my time.

First off, for Xmas I had received a $50 PSN card. What are some worthy purchases from the PSN store? PSone titles are acceptable purchases. I currently own: Spyro the Dragon, Castlevania: Symphony of the Night, Medievil, Wild Arms, Flow, Super Stardust HD, Calling All Cars, Pixel Junk Monsters, and Super Rub a Dub. I also own the Warden's Keep downloadable content for Dragon Age.

Second, I don't need as much help with this but I figure I'd write down games I will be purchasing in the upcoming months. There are so many! (for sure buys are bolded; maybes are italicized)

  • Mass Effect 2 - January 26th
  • White Knight Chronicles - February 2nd
  • Dante's Inferno - February 9th
  • Heavy Rain - February 23rd
  • Final Fantasy XIII - March 9th
  • God of War III - March 16th

Merry Day-After-Christmas! + What's the best on PSN?

I should start by letting "past-Zassimick" say Merry Christmas!

And now, just in case I forget, "future-Zassimick" wishes you all a Merry Christmas for 2010!

I'm very happy with what I got this Christmas. My 40" Sony Bravia and a few shirts and body sprays from my family, and Batman: Arkham Asylum and Assassin's Creed 2, the former on PS3 the latter on 360, from my girlfriend and her family. Her family also got me a $50 PSN card so now I have to decide what I'd like to get over PSN.

If anyone has any suggestions? I'm thinking LBP expansions, the Epilogue for Prince of Persia, and maybe Trine or something but I'm unsure. If anyone knows what the best games or things to buy are, please enlighten. :)

Game of the Year at Gamespot goes to Demon's Souls!?! Who saw that coming? I was already planning on picking this up if I didn't get it for Christmas, so this gives me all the more reason to. :) And I was also thinking of picking up Modern Warfare 2 so I have something to play multiplayer wise... yet I'm still unsure of how much time I'll actually devote to it.

I suppose not much else to say. Just waiting to get back to my PS3 and 360 to play my new games. :D

The Break Thus Far...

I am three days into my break so far and it has been very nice. Classes and theatre hardly allows me time to just relax and enjoy it, so that is all I've been doing these past couple days.

First off, I beat ODST and it took about 7 hours on Heroic. The game was good and was a nice treat before Reach, but I wish they could have done more with it.

Then last night I beat inFamous and that took 20+ hours on the good ending with over 50% of the trophies I believe. It was a good game but real buggy and I got real tired of it when I was in the Warren. So I took a long break over the school semester of not playing it, then I picked it back up and it was pretty fun. Also, the ending was superb.

Now I've got Dragon Age: Origins, Marvel Ultimate Alliance 2, The Legend of Zelda: Spirit Tracks and Kingdom Hearts: 358/2 Days to beat during the break. That is not including any games my family or my girlfriend, or my girlfriend's family have gotten me.

*Prays for Arkham Asylum and Assassin's Creed 2 and hopes for any of these four: Modern Warfare 2, Demon's Souls, Borderlands and Fallout 3*

I gotz Twitter

So I decided to check out Twitter for the first time today, made an account and everything. Seems pretty straightforward so I think for those quick one-liner messages I'll be posting on there frequently. Anyone who follows Twitter let me know and I'll check you out.

Other than that, eight days till I get my 40" Sony Bravia. I got a new DSLite from my gf, which I then had to go buy Spirit Tracks which is a lot of fun, although maybe too similar to Phantom Hourglass for its own good... but very fun.

And since the Halo: Reach footage, I've been itching to play ODST and beat that. That is my goal for this weekend. :D Should be fun.

Black Friday

A day where many people throw all common sense out the window just for $20 off an item.

A day of people standing in lines for an hour to take advantage of deals.

A day when I finally got myself an HDTV!!! :D :D :D :D Well, I got it for my parents to give me at Christmas so I still have to go a month without one, but I got an HDTV!!! :D :D :D :D No more playing Dragon Age on a Standard Definition TV, no more not getting all the action of Uncharted 2, no more not being able to read the text in many games!

I can't wait for Christmas. :D :D :D :D
