We’ve highlighted a few interesting tidbits below:

Which console is the most powerful? On paper, Microsoft's Xbox One X console is the most powerful system with its 6 teraflops of performance. This is over 4.5x of that of the original Xbox One and 1.4x the PS4 Pro, its closest console competitor.

No Caption Provided

Which console offers the most storage space? The console that currently offers the most storage space out of the box is the 2TB version of the Xbox One S. It’s worth mentioning that you can swap out the storage drives on the PlayStation 4 consoles, which is something Xbox One systems currently can’t do.

Which console is the smallest? Being a handheld console, the Nintendo Switch is the smallest system here measuring 4x6.8x2.1 inches.

Which console is the heaviest? While the Xbox One X is the smallest Xbox console yet, it's also the heaviest out the bunch, weighing in at 8.4 pounds.

The whole Nintendo Switch looks more and more like a Wii U Pro. Nintendo once again refuse to understand the important of making a machine capable of keeping up with the competition and they just refuse to understand that most game makers don't want to downgrade their games in order for them to be playable in a Nintendo console and that's one of the main reason why 3rd party is almost nonexistence in Nintendo consoles. I really thought that after the whole Wii U fiasco that they were gonna come out swinging with a machine that at least would be of equal power or maybe even a little more powerful than the regular PS4 but it was not to be and Nintendo is rolling the dice once again. I believe the whole specs rumors going around with the Switch, most of the time specs rumors turn out to be truth or close to it.

@angrycreep: If the rumors are true then it's not a failure. Third party are already working on the Switch, most of them will just wait and see if the Switch sells, do you really think that they care about downgrading their games ? If they can make money, they will downgrade their games without any doubt.

There is only one thing that Nintendo has to do and is to sell a lot of Switch. If they manage to do it then third parties will come and make more games.

@isariamkia: Listen they had a similar lineup of 3rd party for the Wii u and look what happen, and that's nothing. The Wii sold more than 100 million consoles and where was the 3rd party support? the answer is no where to be found. So if you really believe that it if sells 3rd party will come, well the Wii sold more than 100 million and 3rd party never came. You have to open your eyes and see how things has been going for Nintendo and their refusal to do what's needed to stay in the race and instead they keep doing this minor upgrade type of consoles and not a true next generation machine.

@angrycreep: The problem with the Wii was the control, a Wiimote and a nunchuk ? Now the gamepad is exactly the same as all gamepads, the only difference is you can use only half of it but that's absolutely not a problem.

If Nintendo made a next gen console it would fail for sure, we already have xbox and PS and PC if you want and they have their reputation for next gen consoles, who will trust in Nintendo when you can have xbox and PS when you know both companies always made next gen consoles ?

Their way of doing isn't bad at all, they innovate, they try new things and with that they don't enter in the competition between PS and xbox (and PC but I don't think PC is in the competition at all).

What they want is not being choose over a console but being took WITH another platform. Usually people who owns PS or xbox is because they don't need a PC (or because they can't afford it) so they only buy one of them. And this is where Nintendo is intelligent, their console don't compete with the others. they are like an add-on. You can play almost what you want on your PS/xbox/PC ? Good, now buy this add-on and play Nintendo games too.

@isariamkia:

If Nintendo made their system normal power with normal architecture so 3rd party companies didn't have to spend additional millions to basically remake an entire game on their 'half-assed' system, they would somehow just magically fail? Porting a game from PS4 to WiiU is not just a simple downgrade, it is a complete remake of the game in some cases.

How do you know that? Competition for consumers is a good thing. If Nintendo made their consoles with high powered components and had their 1st party titles PLUS all the 3rd party titles (since they wouldn't have to remake their games on a different architecture)....yeah I'm sorry but I think you are way wrong there. If anything it would get even more people to purchase it. Their 1st party titles is why people purchase their system, so making their system more powerful is NOT going to make them sell less. Its just going to make it so there are more high quality games on it...

I am not a fan boy of any system or company, I like them all. I just want to play great games. I don't care for these "innovative" gimmicks they try to pass off as being amazing when anyone with a logical down to earth brain can see right through it. This is a tablet they are trying to pass off as a home console yet it is portable....I guess, if you really want to call it that. So far reports show it lasts like one - one and a half hour on its battery...so not sure that's a great portable option. It is also notably slower when not docked. 3DS on the other hand....

In my 30+ years of being involved with the gaming industry I have seen Nintendo keep slipping down and down from very poor business choices. Remember they used to be at the top and they had competitors and powerful hardware back in the day.

Also....to be dead honest (and I'm sure I am not alone here) I am dead sick and tired of Mario games. I am also kinda....just kinda sick of Zelda games. I also outgrew my interest in Pokemon when I got older. With their 1st party talent they really could make some amazing games IF THEY ALSO HAD THE HARDWARE TO DO IT. Thats my biggest complaint about the big N. So much potential somewhat wasted on gimmicky type platforms.

I get that Nintendo has actually said they are not in competition with Microsoft and Sony, but lets get real here...in the real world for a minute. Nintendo makes and sells video games.....so does Sony and Microsoft and currently they are doing it much much better than the big N. I really hope that changes.

I dont mean to rant all over you but there are so many people defending Nintendo and it just confuses me. Like they have some sort of misguided loyalty towards them for something. If anything people should be demanding they do better.

Here ya go: I bet that in the next 7 years there will be no Nintendo console besides the 3DS (Whatever form that handheld takes in 7 years) Nintendo will become a software company that sells handhelds. Personally I would love that...their 1st party talent making games for Sony and Microsoft and PC...oh boy yes please! Heck they would probably make even more profit!

Bye

@dbmuser: Yup I agree, I would prefer nintendo make a real next gen console instead of always making a console or handheld that is always behind the others except with some new gimmick. They haven't made a real next gen console since the nintendo 64 lol they seem to cater to the under 10 years old crowd

I really would love to see the source for the exact Switch Specs, Nintendo never revealed it. the units are not in the wild.

The only thing I can think about are the RUMORS, from Eurogamer, which source is Venture Beat, which source is a guy on youtube that admited was trolling em for how gaming media is willingly to report anything for the sake of click bait, ergo, this article

For people who comment about "power" on those consoles : Get over it!

Remember what they said about Vita vs 3DS? Yup, it's not always about the power

The most important thing is the Games, and if Switch could give a good library of games, i don't mind a "mediocre Power"

Hell i can stand looking at those pixels on my new 3DS and still enjoy it

@angrycreep: Well maybe their target market isn't people that are looking for their first console. But for X1 & PS4 owners that will buy the Switch as a supplementary console. Why would Nintendo create another console that already filled by X1 and PS4? Do you think anyone will buy a Nintendo Console that identical to PS4 or X1 in terms of specs and games (plus few first party from Nintendo)?

I already have a PC and PS4, i don't buy X1 because the games are identical to PC and the PC version are mostly superior. The PS4 have a lot of exclusive games that will not released to PC so i bought one. The Switch will be my next one since it offers a different gameplay, game library and also portable. I'm sold

@ginxeno: Problem is that the Switch hardware isn't worth the asking cost, the Vita & 3DS were similar price at launch, and guess which one had the much better hardware and was more comfy in the hands? Yep, the Vita. I think they are making a mistake here because they should price it cheaper to sell well, if Sony or MS come out with a similar system you can bet that it will be decently more powerful and there will be little difference in cost.

@perfect_chao: And guess which one fail between vita and 3ds? Yep. It's not about the hardware.

Ever heard people ranting about Pokemon's graphic on 3DS? or Pixelated Monster Hunter? maybe yes but people don't actually care as long they have fun with the game

It's about bragging and taunting the less powerful console fan boys. They buy 3 games a year and brag about resolution and framerates.

@lithus: it's more powerful than a ps3 or xb360 so I guess they are both laughable as well. It's not too far behind the xb1 and ps4. There is a wider gap between my pc and the ps4 pro. So is the ps4 pro laughable? No its the most powerful console on the market, but then again it's also the least bought. It's not a true console because of the handheld attributes. It more of a hybrid,,but I do agree they should've made it to be on part with at least the xb1.

This article wasnt proofread thoroughly and is slightly innacurate. The Switch releases in 2017, not 2016. It also contains a USB 3.0 in the dock

@perfect_chao: but how are we supposed to play with our friends on xb live or psn? I would rather pay than to play with that master race crowd. There's better competition on consoles anyway. Gears 4 cross play proved that last year. Even with the keyboard and mouse advantage my crew still wrecked them. 40 and 0 against kb&m.

This is Nintendo official pull out from console development! The Switch is not a console, it is a New Gen DS handheld with a docking unit that allows you to play it on screen. Im not mad about it, i knew nintendo was going to be on this path with gimmick after gimmick. I just wish they would call it what it is a new handheld! and a great one at that.

@golden1elite: Nintendo is ahead of the competition, 1 or 2 more gen, and all "consoles" will be "handhelds" due to the barrier of power and bottle neck on display and price/ product. after 4K what will the next gen do?? 8K that requires a 75" TV for you too see the difference? 120 FPS on 60 MHz TVs??? and "ultra realistic graphics like movies or pixar picture animation" is a not due to high cost of development.

So "miniaturization and Portability" are the future of vidya dedicated hardware

@golden1elite: Until I personally can test the battery life and portability of the handheld aspect of the console, I wouldn't consider it a replacement to my 3DS. As with a lot of their gimmicks, the novelty wears out pretty quickly. Only reason I ever stick around is because I am obsessed with Monster Hunter and Zelda franchise, lol.

Why tho? Seriously, these are consoles. Specs were never meant to be their "thing". What this article SHOULD be discussing is the games and the state that they're in for each console. Not the specs.

@Rushaoz: I'm also an IT guy, I'm an expert in networking, server, storage, and virtualization with a background in programming and a dual degree in mathematics and computer science, and I build out large enterprise datacenters for my pay and do web development as a (paying) hobby. However! For my phone, I prefer an iPhone-- why? because it's simple. I've been openly called a "noob" in forums for using iPhones instead of a more customizeable Android device, which is laughable... I could write the OS myself if I was that determined. For my gaming, I prefer an XBOX-- why? because it's simple. I got tired of many years of dealing with drivers and rewriting .ini files and keeping up with the rat race of latest hardware just to run the latest games. On a console, I know that every game released on it is going to run just fine. My days at work are spent in so much exacting detail and mind-numbing minutiae all day long, that when I'm off work I just want it all "to just work". That said-- I do casually compare specs on consoles, for example I'm still running an XBOX 360, but when it's time to upgrade there is no guarantee I won't flip over to a PlayStation product if it's the superior device at the time. For example, I'm watching this Project Scorpio appliance at the present... if its video card has 50% more effective computational power at the time of my purchase, then that's what I'm getting. So specs aren't completely immaterial, they are like an easy buyer's guide for some of us. There are so many games for XBOX and PS to choose from, that really this is almost the irrelevant piece to me (as long as these companies continue securing great games, of course). I do agree with you that graphics aren't everything, however if I'm buying a console that I expect to last me the next 10+ years (did I mention I'm still on the XBOX 360?) then I want the latest and greatest when I do actually buy. Anyway, my two cents-- probably overpriced at that. Cheers!

@Rushaoz: Maybe you don't know how specs work, but the reason most consoles have better looking games is because the specs are better. It very much matters, and definitely is contributing to PlayStation being in the lead. I know lots of people who locked in their choice over the specs, not the exclusives.

@ShimmeringSword: ... Please do not belittle me. I'm an IT Admin I KNOW what specifications are and how they contribute to a game. What YOU don't understand is that graphics aren't everything.

Some of the best looking games this generation were also the crappiest (Ryse anyone?) Graphics don't make a game fun, gameplay does. Graphics are just the icing on the cake and should be taken as so by developers. Developers like Crytek that make amazing looking games that end up being subpar because the gameplay just isn't there. Especially on consoles where power reserves are limited. As far as those people that chose a console because of specs; if that's the case why didn't they just build a PC??

Buying a console because of specs is outright asinine. Just ask all the people that bought Nintendo 64s over a PS1 back in the day. Not to say that the 64 was bad; it had a bunch of great games but the PS1's massive library destroyed the N64. Specs didn't help it catch up in that regard whatsoever.

Hopefully you learned something from my reply. Mind you PC is my preferred platform. I have a gaming rig that wipes the floor with both consoles.

Specs aren't everything.

see. that is the problem in your statement, this are meant to be GAMES. not movies. so gameplay > Visual, is long ago that developer decided to prioritize visual over gameplay. you dont hear em talking "we are able to implement this or that due to the power" all you have not is "1080, look at those texture, we sacrificed frame rate who cares" and pixel counters like Digital Foundry

@garf02: More power does not cost gameplay, so when you have the choice between 2-3 consoles, for the same game, why not pick the console that also makes the game look better? Switch is an instant loss for multiplatform games, and it will even be hampered at playing its own exclusives do to having such low specs, especially the stupidly low storage space. Also more power can improve gameplay, as things like framerate and clarity DO impact how the game feels.

@ShimmeringSword: More Power dont not cost gameplay, but currently is not used on it
"why not pick the console that makes the look better".
Cause said console dont have other games I want.
if my options are
FIFA 2017 at 1080 30FPS and God Of War or FIFA 2017 at 900 30 FPS and Zelda. I would go for the one that provide more games that cater to what I want. in this case zelda.

if someone else prefer God Of War then they will go to the other one. is not a hard concept.

Only reason this hole graphics war exist is cause PS and XB reached the point where both consoles are identical (hardware, controll scheme, online etc etc etc). and as their exclusive dont sell even close as well as mutliplats, this is the only measuring stick they can now use to try to put each over the competition

@csward: We've known the specs for like a month now, and known likely specs for close to a year.

That's awesome if it's really got 4GB. I was suspecting it must have more than Wii U based on the audio samples being higher quality on Switch in Zelda.

Of course it's semi-odd that Switch is the only portable listed on here...why not put 3DS and Vita on there too? (Though obviously Switch is going to quickly replace them.)

@wolfpup7: Because Switch is a hybrid console, not a portable. Nintendo said it was a home console which can be played on the go like a portable console not the opposite. However the comparison still can't be made because Switch is the only hybrid console there.

Why is the Scorpio even included in this? It's not even out. Why don't we include the GTX 1080ti then (it's not out yet). By the time Scorpio releases it will be another midrange PC so this pissing match is pointless. I don't know when console gaming became all about specs but it's absurd. If you want specs then play on PC. The unreleased Scorpio boasts 6 teraflops but my PC has 18 and that doesn't even bring CPU disparity into the picture.

@slickwilly06: This is primarily a Switch moticated article... which isn't out yet, so it's only fair to include the Scorpio, of which we roughly know the specs that matter, the videocard power in particular.

You want to talk power? then dont talk console. Plain and simple. Someone who games on console shouldnt be obsessed with a powerful box more than the games you get on that box. People traditionally went to consoles for affordable home gaming THATS IT! People never obsessed about what the most powerful console was during the history of consoles as they do now. Its crazy. and pointless.

@IanNottinghamX: The advertising in past console wars in the 90s disagree with you. Marketers aren't going to pitch power if it's not important to their audience, but it is guy.

For example, Google the "Do the Math" ad campaign for the Atari Jaguar or the blast processing campaign for the Sega Genesis, ect.

@csward: The console wars died in the 90s when it became more about the games and not the consoles at all.

Those ads were not made by people who were gamers, cause none of that shit mattered to the games themselves. It was just advertising wars, Thats it. Coke and Pepsi, Mcdonalds and Burgerking had ad fueds like that too. Noone who was a gamer cared about those ads. In all practicality it comes down to the users and their choice in games. I seriously think fanboys need to get a grip on reality.

@IanNottinghamX: Well I don't know what kind of pleb casual gamer friends you have, but I very clearly remember most of my friends picking the PS4 because it had better specs. Specs are quite important to anyone that isn't a slave to particular exclusives, as they directly impact how good the games are going to be.

Also if you think gaming is only about affordable fun, then consoles are dead on that aspect. Cost savings on PC gaming now makes it the value option for anyone that plays a lot of games (again if they're not hardcore into one exclusive franchise).

"Specs are quite important to anyone that isn't a slave to particular exclusives, as they directly impact how good the games are going to be."
