Halo 2 Vista delayed again

[UPDATE] Bungie PC shooter release date pushed back to May 31; copies hit store shelves regardless.

While diehard Halo fans are likely neck-deep in the Xbox 360 Halo 3 beta, some of them might have emerged from their man-cannon-grav-lift-and-bubble-shield-induced stupor long enough to notice that the Windows Vista edition of Halo 2 has yet to show up in stores.

Halo 2 was originally set for release on the PC May 8, but Microsoft pushed it back a couple of weeks "to make some improvements to the install experience and address other technical issues." It had been expected to ship to stores Tuesday, but when it didn't show, Microsoft came out with news of another delay, but with no explanation for it.

"Halo 2 for Windows Vista did not release to retailers on May 22, as previously announced, and will now ship from manufacturers on May 31," a Microsoft representative said. "Shadowrun will be the first game to debut the highly anticipated Games for Windows Live system on May 29. We apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused our customers."

[UPDATE] While Halo 2 Vista was officially delayed, that hasn't stopped some stores from selling it. GameSpot has purchased a copy from a Circuit City location, and the retail chain's Web site lists it as currently shipping and available for in-store pickup. As of press time, Microsoft representatives had not returned a request for comment.

Alaris83 - There is no difference in the two examples, as they both do it for the same reason: entertainment. Upgrading your PC you get increased performance, better video, etc. It's the same thing there too. And you ask what achievements add to a gaming experience? How about mini-goals (get 100 head shots, finish a level with only a chainsaw, etc), a video gaming 'sense of acomplishment' each time you hit one, replayability to get them all. How is this *any* different from something like Pokemon? It's not. It's essentially the same thing. So some of us are driven by these listed out goals? How is that a bad thing? Again, you're essentially insulting a group of people (several times over now) for not playing games for the same reason as you. Way to insult people who don't think like you. The internet is awesome that way.

Well we all know that the campaign for the game is the same as Halo 2 Xbox version but never the less the game should be more enjoyable on the PC with improved graphics & the mouse clicking! the only thing that is taking my attention is that its on the all new windows Vista, 1 word : why ?? there still tons of people that use XP until now why deny them of playing the game ? i don't know if there is going to be any sort of 2 versions of the game but for now its exclusive for vista with Directx 10 ,lets just hope they make something like they did in the LOST PLANET Demo DX9 ver & DX 10 ver which was a great idea.

Alaris83 : Still not following you... If you have fun doing it, and it's not hurting anyone, and you're probably going to upgrade your system sometime soon anyhow, what's the problem? How is any of that an "unhealthy obsession"? Upgrading your system to play a game is bad? It's been happening since the dawn of modern PC gaming. So do people who spend $5,000 on home entertainment systems to watch $20 DVD's just to get the 5.1 audio / 720p video have an "unhealthy obsession" as well?

This game is too old for the price. It should be $30 or less.

If you need to spend $50 on a game you've probably already played, $100 on Vista, and then at least another $150 on a DX10 graphics card so that you can get some more points on your achievements list, I'd say you have an irrational and unhealthy obsession with the Achievement Points system.

@Alaris83: ... and how is your Live Gamerscore score different from an in-game score? In-game scores are just as much of an "arbitrary point system" as your Live Gamerscore, so I don't see why you're saying that people who like to track down Achievements have "bigger problems". Essentially you're coming to a video game web site and insulting people for playing video games.

@hoverboy: Like I said, they're just some made up number that doesn't impact the game in any way. If you can't see what's wrong with spending that much money for some numbers that some guy just pulled out of his rear, then I'm afraid I can't help you.

Yea and i bet that's not 31st of May for UK customers either... I wouldn't be surprised, the way this is going, if it didn't reach our shelves until June the 8th. When all said and done, it's just a game, but i really do want to play this. I'm all hardware and Vista prepaired, so it's just a metter of getting a copy of the game now. I just hope sooner rather than later.

@Alaris83: Some people like the Achievement system. Myself included. What are these "bigger problems" that you speak of? Are you suggesting that Live Achievements are somehow different than say, an in-game score, or leveling a character in an RPG?

I've added a friend and sent him an e-mail, there were no problems. Although there was an update already which might have had something to do with the problems they say.

Well if you feel the need to drop down money on a new graphics card, a new OS, and a new game just so you can enjoy some arbitrary point system, I'd say you have bigger problems than the Halo 2 delay.

nikefreak * yes nvidia has bad Vista drivers right now, and I'm sure they will fix it... but right now it works on XP * MCE remote using the Microsoft RF protocol works perfect, but as a consumer under XP I had the choice not to buy into that... I like my remote ( I feel its much better thn the Microsoft first party one). They will fix it but right now it works on XP * ATI is having problems with Video in right now off their cards in Vista... under XP PixelView takes the PS2/gameCube signal from the X1900 video in (as MCE wont share the NVTV card)... it is a more "clean" solution over and external VGA box ... Its a driver problem, and once more ATi will fix it but right now it works on XP.. * There are no DX10 games, there is a "promise" of a better tomorrow... but promises from microsoft are not one I place money on. Yes evolution is a given, but just being "new" does not give you that title my friend... I tried it, and as I said Vista looks to be the future but what it gives "ME" (not a general mark, just for what I do and have) today its not a better solution over XP (for me, one of 6 billion ^.^) will it be? we wont be able to buy OEM XP License after Dec 2007 so it needs to be.

From all reports I've read and experiences I've had DX10 games run slower than DX9 games. Vista hogs a lot of resources and seems to be a glorified OSX with horrendous issues and bad resource management. I think Vista finally made me vomit Windows. I just bought Halo 2 for Xbox that I plan to play on my future X360 purchase.

Damn that sux! I know that my friend will be very disappointed with the delay.. I told him to just get it on Xbox... but he prefers the PC because they added new stuff into it! Oh well, I just hope that when it comes out, it will be worth all the wait and delays that it went through! So for now, I'll play Halo2 on my XBOX! :D

I've bought and been playing halo 2 and never had any troubles playing online, installing, or playing the campaign. So any minor errors they may have found could be easily fixed by an update, the installing is fine as is.

They delayed the game yet they already shipped it to stores? What are they trying to do? Give the spotlight to ShadowRun? Who would buy Halo 2 then?

I have Vista, for free from my college, but Halo 2 lost its touch about oh since oblivion came out, and then other better games. Won't even get shadow run because i don't like that genre. But games do play great on Vista. Then again, haven't exactly played a DX10 game yet though. IF anything, Halo 2 for pC offers map creation and better matchmaking setup.

pcgamer gave the game a 67 percent and siad it's a bit moldy as far as vista games go, and to wiat for shadow run, a much more promising game.

I got a Windows Vista laptop.... and basicly it cripples it down to the bear minium of just browsing the net. But it runs Halo 1around 15 FPS, I dread to imagine how it runs halo 2..... so yeah, maybe they are like trying to update Vista to run halo? Honestly I'm better off buying a 360 and playing Halo 3 instead.

I feel bad for bungie. They became slaves for MS and Halo 2 won't even offer an initial profit on Vista. In this case, who cares if it gets delayed?

Don't know how you guys think but I and most of my friends agreed MS should have given Halo2 away with Windows Vista for free. I have no plan to upgrade to Vista any time soon; however, a Halo2 bundle would have me sold.

MS is just creating anticipation, and wants to promote their new OS. Well I am NOT buying it...I mean..its a good game, but there are far better games.Take Crysis fo example. Trully Next-Gen game full dx10 support, but they support both xp and Vista..... Oh poor little microsoft...it is so insecure in both halo and vista that it must come up with perverted little fits like this one Plus i dont like being forced to switch to Vista, ill do it when i feel like it and when there is good support for it.... over and out
