Halo 3, Fable II join Elite Xbox 360 bundle

Microsoft's latest hardware-software combo includes 120GB console, top releases from 2007, 2008 for $399 this May.

The Xbox 360 has had no shortage of high-profile exclusives in recent years, and Microsoft said today that it would be bundling two of its most notable releases into its latest hardware bundle. The publisher today announced that Bungie's Halo 3 and Lionhead Studios' Fable II will be packaged with the Xbox 360 Game of the Year bundle, available in limited quantities this May.

No Caption Provided

Like the Resident Evil 5 bundle released in May, Microsoft's latest hardware-software combo will pack the two hit titles in with a 120GB Xbox 360 Elite for the console's standard retail price tag of $399. A wireless controller, a wired headset, an HDMI cable, and a free Netflix trial will also be included with the bundle.

Released to rave reviews and numerous awards in September 2007, Halo 3 from then Microsoft-owned Bungie received its most recent batch of downloadable content this month with the Mythic Map Pack. Halo 3: ODST, a pseudo-expansion to the shooter that follows a contingent of Orbital Drop Shock Troopers, is expected later this year. Lionhead Studios, which remains a part of Microsoft's internal stable, released its long-awaited action role-playing title Fable II to a strong critical reception in October 2008.

@Bozo1975 Let me tell you what my crystal ball says: "Bozo1975 thinks that his attempts at trolling are successful. Unfortunately this is not the case. His purposeful attempts at confusing fact with opinion have made him look silly in the eyes of most of the people posting here. His inability to provide any concrete evidence to back up anything he says is amusing. Frazzle00 will keep making fun of him because teasing silly trolls is entertaining." :P.

@Bozo1975 LOL. You bring nothing but opinions. I prefer Forza to Gran Tourismo. You prefer Gran Tourismo to Forza. Who is right? If game quality was a fact there would be a definite answer to that question. It is also a fact that there are plenty of games developed by MS in-house teams that have been very highly regarded. Just have a look at this link: << LINK REMOVED >>. I also have a link to the review of the PS3 version of Oblivion-Game of the Year Edition which states that the game looks just as good on the 360: << LINK REMOVED >>. You on the other hand have provided no evidence to back up your claims. Assumptions are not facts no matter how obvious you think they are. Seriously dude how old are you? 12? Lastly as it stands MS have nothing to prove. They are ahead of the PS3 in terms of sales, and even if you only count sales since the release of the PS3 (i.e. disregarding the PS3's head start) the 360 has still outsold the PS3 by nearly 3 million units (check VGChartz for the numbers). So yeah, I'll only believe that 2009 will the PS3's year when I see it. Going by the events of the previous 2 years, it is more than likely that the 360 will triumph once again :).

See my crystalball works. Yesterday Sony made a pre E3 press confrence where they showed a few games including Uncharted2. Here's a quick first impression. "The earliest of those impressions, for Uncharted 2: Among Thieves, will go live next Monday, April 27th. I think almost everyone in attendance was pretty surprised by what Naughty Dog and Sony showed at today's event, so I'm guessing the general public will be too."

@frazzle00 I bring nothing but facts! 1) Off course I dont have a crystalball but some things arent that hard to predict especially when it comes to sequals since you pretty much know what to expect. After playing Uncharted it's a fact part 2 will be a good game. Even if it looks exactly like part1 but with new locations it will still be a must buy for ps3 owners. Same goes for GOW3, GT5 and FF. Now Infamous, Heavy Rain and MAG I dont have a clue about, but going by the previews those game will be pretty sweet. That is not fanboyisme because I also know GEARS3 will be awesome. Now a lot of the 360 games you mentioned are dubious to say the least. Huxley is on hold for the 360, Alan wake is a very original concept but why havent we seen anything from it since 2006? Same goes for SplinterCell and Halo ODST. Forza2 is a game that you can easily compare to GT. It's basically a soulles copy of GT which is still a good game though, but it doesnt have the polish of a game like GT. GT5 Prologue al, which is basically a glorified demo, allready shows why a Forza will never outshine GT. That game runs in 1080p at 60fps, has better looking tracks, cars and cockpits and overall more polish. Now GT5 has been in development for like 200 years and Sony knows how important that game is for them. Trust me it will be GT tuned to perfection. 2) Nobody should buy the ps3 just to play Blu-Ray movies. But guess what the Blu-Ray does more then play movies. It opens up a lot of possibilies for game developers and it is slowly starting to show. Remember Rockstar announced a ps3 exclusive that will only fit on Blu-Ray. Sure not all games need all that storage but in the end it is the future of gaming. 3) Off course MS has inhouse development studio's. But they have a lot less of them and looking at their trackrecord, they make worse games. Another FACT for you right there. 4) Do you have a source that says the special edition of Oblivion has sharper textures, bigger draw distance then the normal version for the 360? like I said the ps3 version was not a remake it just used the HD more efficiently. Same thing will happen with Rage if ID decides to develop the ps3 version seperately. 5) Common now it's another FACT the ps3 version has better drawing distance and sharper textures, like the reviews say. 6) Haha just look at the 09 lineup man. Sure Sony had a slow start but this year there will at least 5 AAA exclusives coming that have actually been announced. Now what have MS announced so far? I am sure MS will come up with something awesome at E3 but I will beleive it when I see it! ;) 7) Dammit no wonder I got fired!! I still think the cheesehelmet was a great idea though!

@Bozo1975

Dude you seriously have a problem distinguishing fact from opinion.

1) I never said many people don't like "GOW3, Uncharted2, GT5, Infamous, Heavy Rain, MAG, FFXIIIvs". You actually don't know whether or not these games will be good simply because you haven't played them. I could also simply come up with a list like "Mass Effect 2, Forza 3, Halo 3: ODST, Alan Wake and Huxley" and say I prefer them over the list you've given me. Remember when it comes to opinion there is no right and wrong. It is wrong however to state your opinion as fact.

2) Extra features are not necessarily good, especially if you HAVE to pay for ones you don't need. Let's say I am a Sony loyalist who (like the majority of the population) has a wired broadband account and doesn't really care for Blu-Ray movies. If I am going to buy a PS3 I would HAVE to pay extra for these extraneous features. As a consumer I would rather have the choice NOT to buy the things I don't need like a wifi adapter or a HD media drive. Remember just because you want something doesn't mean everyone else does. 3) Both MS and Sony have in-house development teams. This is a FACT. Whether or not you like their games is an OPINION. Learn to distinguish between the two. 4) So you don't think over a years worth of extra development time played any part in the PS3 version of Oblivion looking better; that again is your opinion, not a fact. Prove me wrong if you can 8). You might also like to take into consideration the fact that The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion - Game of the Year Edition, which was released at a subsequent date on both the PS3 and the 360 also looks identical on both machines. 5) Once again the issue with regards to game graphics is a subjective one; i.e. an opinion. You may not think the PS3 versions look worse. Others may. 6) I have been hearing the whole "Sony is just warming up" excuse for the last 2 years. 2007 was going to be Sony's year. 2008 was going to be Sony's year. Surprise, surprise, 2009 is going to be Sony's year. LOL. I'll believe it when I see it. 7) If NASA ever hires someone like you, the future of America's scientific endeavors into space will be severely compromised. Houston out :).

@Vengeance00 Your absolutely right. It's apparantly a nightmare to develop for the ps3 so you should see more games on the 360. The weird thing is that Sony made it hard to program for the ps3 on purpose, which is pretty arrogant of them. But then again Sony has been dominating the console market for over a 20 years and have a lot of small first party developers that take time and effort in creating amazing quality games. Even though the 360 should have more games coming theoretically the ps3 seems to be pulling away this year. Gt5, Infamous, Heavy Rain, KZ2, GOW3, FFXIII are all games that have been in development for over 3 years and that is why they ooze quality/ production value and get a 9+ rating in most cases. There is just no other company on the planet that can do what Sony can when it comes to pooping out new interesting franchises. They got their hooks in the best developers in the business who all support each other and share technology. Like Guerilla Games sharing the KZ2 tech with Naughty Dog, Insomiac and the developes of GOW3 and vice versa.

Wise decision there from MS. I wonder what sony will do to counter it. Release god of war 3, and the rest of 1st party exclusives immediately or to have a price cut? Anyway, this is a really tempting bundle but I'm still worried of the E74 and RRoD, MS Philippines doesn't support 360 warranty here. damn...

@vengeance00 the dreamcast was part of the same generation as the cube, ps2 and xbox the saturn was the sega console that was part of the same gen as the n64 and the ps1 and thus competed with them also the ps2 wasn't as underpowered compared to the cube and xbox, as the wii is compared to the 360 and ps3. and the << LINK REMOVED >> had a better lineup of games and more exclusives than the original xbox (the xbox had only halo 1 and 2 plus several multiplat games that were on other consoles and on pc)

in my opinion is this (i've had all three but sold the wii for a PS3) the 360 is a good console which is easier to make games for in a shorter time however it is poorly built. and the PS3 is a console that game make astounding games but in exchange for longer production times, also PS3's well known exclusive list has been shrunk with companies going multiplatform to help increase sales. the main problem i see with the PS3 is that its too powerful for its own good, like the xbox was a few years back and the dreamcast before that. with the dreamcast it had online multiplayer and better graphics then the competition (N64 and playstation) however because of poor advertising, bad timing and longer production time it went under. the Xbox almost did the same thing with the price and lack of exclusives but when they aquired bungie and released halo it saved the console from going out as well. theres always a bottom, middle, top console in each generation and its how they are made. the wii did well like the PS2 did well, because it was a crap console (in terms of specs to the other consoles of that gen) and with that they get s*** shuffled onto its system. the 360 is doing the same as it's predessor and the PS3 has the same user base as the gamecube did at the time. this is how i see it and now i find the whole console wars thing a bit childish now that i've owned all three consoles. (though the wii really needs some more hard/core gamer games, but with the bad sales of madworld and GTA:CW i doubt it).

@parhar67 it's highly unlikely that the 360 version of ff13 will sell double what the ps3 version will sell. first of all the 360 version isn't going to be released in japan, and japan usually accounts for half the sales that final fantasy games have (go look at vgchartz.com if you don't believe me). also in europe the ps3 version will probably slightly outsell the 360 version (that happens to most multi plat games that aren't shooters). the us is probably the only region where the 360 version will outsell the ps3 version, but with the huge Japanese sales the ps3 version wiil by far surpass the 360 version overall (note i'm not a fanboy, i own neither a ps3 nor a 360, i based what i said on logic).

@frazzle00 I am not confusing my opinion with facts. I never said I dont like the 360 because I own one. I love Gears but FACT is MS simply hasnt got as many first party developers to compete with the exclusive franchises Sony has in store. Many people dont like GOW3, Uncharted2, GT5, Infamous, Heavy Rain, MAG, FFXIIIvs? Sure you can tell yourself some of those games are not appealing but saying none of them are, is just being in denial. This could change off course if MS announces games that are on par with any of the titles Sony announced. But like I said they dont even the first party support Sony has and it's starting to show now that Sony is just warming up. All the extra features the ps3 has is actually a bad thing? Since when in this crazy world has that happened?! Now if the 360 was cheaper then it would make sense but the 120gig version is not cheaper and people keep saying it's a great deal? Oblivion didnt look better because they had more time to polish it. It looks better because it uses the HD (not the Blu-Ray), that is why there are less pop-ups, load times and sharper textures. FACT is the games that are developed seperatly for the ps3 definetly dont look worse. Unlike the straight ports the ps3 got for a long time. These are all scientific facts approved by NASA HQ!! :)

@Bozo1975 People are giving you the thumbs down because you are confusing your opinion with fact. You may not like the 360. Plenty of people do. You may prefer the PS3's line up of games this year. Many people do not. You may need all the extras the PS3 provides. For many people these extras are extraneous. Let's not forget that games like Oblivion, Bioshock and the upcoming version of Ninja Gaiden 2 arrived (or will arrive) on the PS3 around a year after the original 360 version. Surely you are not suggesting that all this extra time was not spent to improve the game. In addition to this Bioshock on the PS3 doesn't really look any better than the 360 version. Read Gamespot's review if you don't believe me :).

Ouch why am i getting so many thumbs down!! Dont hate the messenger, I am just dropping you the facts :) All I am saying is do some research of where the 360 and ps3 are heading before you spend 400 bucks on a major dissapointment. All the selling points the 360 fans make are just incorrect. - No games on the ps3? (Compare the 09 lineup between the ps3 and 360) - Better exclusives? Hmm name one besides Halo and Gears? Ps3 exclusives are the games to look forward to, I mean GOW3 vs Ninja Blade - Cheaper? It's the same price. If you want to play online it's $60 more expensive actually. - Multiplatform games look better? Lies!! just look at games like Oblivion and Bioshock which werent straight ports. Also take a look at the ps3 version of Ninja Gaiden2. Improved graphics and 33% more content.

You're all fighting like sissies. They're both great systems. I currently own a 360, but that's mainly because of the price difference when I was buying, and because Halo 3 was and is the biggest fad/money crop in existence. Just calm down ok? I love my xbox, but I'd be really happy for a PS3, I mean I REALLY would love having a PS3 for LBP, as well as Killzone 2. Let's face it, they're different systems with different functionality, they're not meant to be the same or have the same exact games most of the time. Oblivion for both is a great game, why are we fighting again?

@Bozo1975 1) That's your opinion only. I think that the exclusives on the 360 are better. Remember opinion is NOT fact. 2) Yes there have been better looking ports. Firstly look at games that were ported from the Xbox/PS2 to the 360 like Tony Hawk: American Wasteland and Gun. Secondly there have been games that were developed with the PS3 as the leading console (e.g. DMC 4, Assassin's Creed, Virtua Fighter 5, and Unreal Tournament 3) which have ended up looking and performing as well on the 360 if not better. As to pre-rendered cutscenes, simply using multiple discs would solve that problem. Star Ocean IV for example has beautiful HD pre-rendered cutscenes. As I have said before I prefer swapping discs to sitting through lengthy installs. 3) Saying that PC games do not have the same high production values is nonsense. Once again take a look at Crysis. You should also not forget that most current multiplatform hits like GTA IV, Assassin's Creed, and Mass Effect have all been released on the PC. And as to PC's having a HDD, I think you are neglecting the fact that most Xbox 360's do as well. 4) The stage demo of Heavy Rain is a short one (less than 20 minutes) so to say that it is representative of the entire game would be premature to say the least. You also don't know whether or not the demo is being streamed from a Blu-Ray disc or entirely of a HDD (more likely) which would explain the lack of loading times. The game does look great (and I am a big fan of Fahrenheit so chances are I'll grab this one as soon as it's released), but I think there are other games that look just as good on both the PS3 and the 360. 5) You should read that Naughty Dog quote again, especially this part: "It’s a big claim, but if it can be done, Uncharted 2 could set the bar a little higher for every game in the industry". "If it can be done" is DEFINITELY NOT the same as "it has been done". 6) Where has Motomu Toriyama stated "we foresee having to make sacrifices with regards to the 360 version"? For the last time don't mistake your speculation for fact.

Just one more thing and I will stop ranting :) Anyone remembers the fuss about the 360 version of Oblivion? It is the only game that has a HD requirement and the load times on the core version were just stupid. Because MS sold a lot of core packs developers cant make games that take full advantage of the HD that the pro version has. A lot of people keep saying multiplatform games look better on the 360. But guess what the ps3 version of Oblivion that actually uses the HD looked way better. Just some quotes from the review. "But, as I mentioned earlier, the PS3 version of Oblivion is a definite technical improvement over the 360 edition. Even if you have the latest Xbox patch installed, this newest port holds an advantage with its quicker loading times (which are almost twice as fast as the 360's with the HD install), fewer framerate hitches, sharper textures, a better draw distance, and a brighter overall picture" Hmmm multiplatform games look better on the 360? Well no only rushed ports look better on the 360.

$400 for a 360 plus two games, that's getting close to making me buy one. If it had a controller with play charge kit included (screw AAs), along with a wifi adapter (or one that's built-in like the Wii/PS3), I'd have a hard time resisting purchase of one.

Oh and a small quote about the 360 version of FFXIII. They are allready covering their ass in case the 360 version turns out worse by saying they havent received the 360 development kits lol "In the video, director Motomu Toriyama didn't beat around the bush when Nomura asked him questions about the 360 FFXIII. Starting off, he reconfirmed that, "We haven't changed the direction of the development. We're making the PS3 version first, and then porting to the 360 later." That means that since the game will be released simultaneously on both platforms in North America and Europe, the PS3 release will be held back in those territories until the 360 version is complete. Furthermore, Toriyama also revealed that, as of July 29, his team hasn't yet received the tools needed to begin work on the Xbox 360 version of FFXIII. "I'm telling them to not think about the Xbox 360 right now," he said. "We can think about it after the development kits arrive." The director also reassured PS3 owners that the game's quality would not suffer due to the 360 port. "We aren't going to change any specifications [of FFXIII] because of the multi-platform announcement," he declared. "Right now, we're fully concentrating on the PS3 version."

@parhar67 Yes your right. The 360 is way better because it sells more, 360 fanboys can only brag about sales now lol? The 360 is out 1,5 year longer and has a larger installbase so ye they sell more copies. Offcourse it makes more money to release Multiplatform games. But will that make better games? Because that is all I care about. SE went for a bigger paycheck by releasing the game on the 360 as well. But a lot of people like me where pissed. Not because I dont want 360 owners to play the damn game but because it will limit the end result. Just look at the Heavy Rain movie << LINK REMOVED >> Now that is one giant leap in technology for you right there. It looks amazing and no load times, even when she enters the building? Is it magic? Well no they are using the HD and Blu-Ray to load the game during small cutscenes, just like Uncharted 2. Now if that game would be multiplatform they could never have done that. People can keep talking about sales but it are ps3 exclusives like this that will make any multiplatform game look a SNES game in the near future. And the thing is there are like 7 quality exclusives like HR coming this year.

@ bozo1975 Are you currently working for square developing the game? i didnt think so and you say they dont care about the 360 version? if they didnt care then why are they releasing it? oh wait i now because they will sell double the copys on the 360 than the ps3. Ill admit the ps3 is a lot more powerful. However making money is on the 360. Look at the major multiplatform games. COD 4 sells more on the 360 Fallout 3 sells more on the 360 GTA 4 sells more on the 360 Devil may cry sells more on the 360 and more than two thirds of the total sales for resident evil 5 are also on the 360....so dont tell me square doesnt care about the 360 version when its clear they decided to bring the game to the xbox because of these greater numbers in sales for the 360...LOL @ U bozo

@Frazzle00 1) Well that is the problem. MS does very little to create their own exclusives. I love Gears2 and if they had more games like that I wouldnt be complaining. However MS is only throwing cash around to get games multiplatform. They biggest announcement last year at E3 was a port of FFXIII lol. 2) Off course I am speculating. But it's a fact that the game will be a straight port. Have you ever seen a port that looked better then the original? It's also a fact that they need to compress the CGI. If you have a normal tv you will probably not even notice it. But on a HD tv it will be the difference of watching the Blu-Ray version of Kung Fu Panda vs the DVD version if your lucky. 3) Because Pc's use a HD maybe? Crysis would never run on a pc if it would stream of the DVD. Also it's the sound, cgi that makes games huge unless they compress it. That is why pc games dont have the production value of console games even with the more powerfull hardware. 4) Lol I googled that. There is a on stage demo of Heavy Rain where you can see that as well << LINK REMOVED >> But here's a quote from Naught Dog as well "After spending time studying Hollywood screenplay techniques, the team at Naughty Dog has discovered how to improve upon the already impressive storytelling capabilities they had in the first Uncharted. The biggest thing that will aid in the pacing of the game will be the “no loading times.” It’s a big claim, but if it can be done, Uncharted 2 could set the bar a little higher for every game in the industry. "

@Bozo1975 1) What about the great 360 and Wii exclusives you would miss buying a PS3? That's why real gamers, not fanboys, buy as many systems as they can, or at least acknowledge the benefits of owning all systems. 2) Firstly you are not a Square Enix insider. Outside of old announcements you have absolutely no idea how they are handling the development or release of FFXIII on either console. You are simply speculating. Don't confuse that with fact. 3) I am a console gamer, but even I have to admit the most powerful gaming machine is the PC, and there seems to be absolutely no problems with PC games utilizing DVDs. If developers can get games like Crysis to fit unto a DVD, why couldn't they get a GTA title to fit? 4) Heavy Rain, Uncharted 2 and God of War 3 are not out. Playable demos of these titles are not available. How do you know that they have no load times? Seriously dude, stop confusing speculation with fact, and more importantly stop pretending to know anything about game development. You are only embarrassing yourself.

@ parhar67 The 360 version of the game is not done yet....and the ps3 version is comming out in japan this year....its not a port...they are working on it seprately....its not even started yet on the 360 and it will be released the same time as the ps3 version.... No man the 360 version will be the first ported game for the 360. Like you said they havent even begin working on it. At the moment there are putting all their resources finishing the ps3 version for the Japan release and dont even seem to care about the 360 version. When that is done they will start doing the port. Considering FFXIII wont be out in the US and Europe before the port is done it should tell you how rushed it will be. We have to wait and see offcourse but I highly doubt the 360 version will be up to par with the ps3 version. For one the CGI will compressed to hell, while it will be full HD on the ps3. And yes swapping disks is not a major problem for a slowpaced game like FFXIII. However think what will happen when a GTA game for example would require diskswapping. Each time you cross a bridge you need to swap disks, then you figure out you need to go back and swap the disc again, it will be horrible lol. Now look at a game like Heavy Rain, Uncharted2 and GOW3, those games look insane and HAVE NO LOADTIMES because they are using the HD and Blu-Ray to stream those games.

Haha some of these posts really sound like a Tellsell commercial. "Wow, a bundle with probably the most popular multiplayer game on the 360 and an epic single-player game. If this doesn't boost sails, idk what will." Common now the Arcade costs $179 so your basically paying 220 bucks for 2 OLD games and a HD. 360 Games dont even use a HD so why need 120 gigs? Is everyone gone bonkers saying this is a great deal? The 360 should be way cheaper then a ps3, seeing what you get when you buy a ps3. I wont even mention the exclusives you will be missing if you buy a 360 :)

Nice bundle. I mean, Lego Indiana Jones and Kung-Fu Panda? C'mon! Now if only they actually release it for the Pro. Saving 100 bucks would definitely yield more sales because that would reel me in. A 120GB hard drive is alot of space for a console unless you download alot of stuff. I think 60 GB is plenty already, at least for me.

I should have spent my money on an Xbox 360 instead of a PC upgrade. I weep.

Well... I already have an Xbox. But its not black. And its hard drive is only 20gb, Maybe I'll have to upgrade and get Fable II and Halo 3 at the same time...

Two best360-sellers with the console... very good for someone who doesn't have anything that is included. I'm just wondering why, at this time, would they create this bundle offer? Its as if they're making a newer xbox system in the near future...

This is probably the best game bundle since NES with the original Super Mario Brothers, or Super Mario World with the SNES. Since then its been few and far between, with most times no games were bundled at all. :(

@joke_man: Thank you, couldn't have said it better myself. But GameSpot will never do anything about these ridiculous arguments because it draws more traffic. GameSpot posts their news articles with such fanboy-esque titles just to fuel the flames. It is almost disgusting.

Great incentive for people yet to own a 360. Sony will probably counter with one of their own soon. Don't they already have one with MGS4?
