Next Xbox in 2012, PS4 dev ramping up - Report

I'm fine with next gen consoles as long as they really take gaming to the next level. The current systems are still a lot of fun with great games still to look forward to. I hope they don't rush it unnecessarily. Maybe deep down inside I just don't feel like shelling out the $$$ for a new system so soon :P

This is honestly the worst console related news I've heard in my life. Microsoft is forcing the next generation on us waaaaaaaaaaay too freaking early! I'm sure that they are only doing this to try and finish off nintendo.

not having a new console is like not having inflation. You must keep pushing graphics, ai, etc, keeps graphics manufacturers working, hardware companies busy with RD, the companies who produce the hardware busy. If everything just stops, and we have the same hardware, people lose jobs, technology wont progress as fast, soo many implications.

I don't think Microsoft should release the next generation console just yet as they are already making tons of money off exclusive and multi platform games and not to forget Xbox gold and DLC's

Well I for one am genuinely disappointed as I don't feel there's a need yet :? With Starhawk, GTAV and Max Payne 3 coming out I'm more than happy already with how the releases are looking for next year.. May just be me mind but still.. I sure as hell won't be buying a new console next year.

at last, about a time, everybody saying no need any next generations, what they saying is a ****. PS3 and xbox 360 potencial is already max out, look at crysis 1, was released at 2007 and look at 2011 console games, they not look any better, or some are only close and physics not changing at all!!!! so graphics not evolving at all!!, thanks god microsoft is going to do end this stagnation, well some guy from CRYTEK was right about telling what graphics will not evolve because of console limitations till next gen 2012, and he was right, and also he said they have new engine to show if next generation consoles will appear at 2012, so bring it on! Consoles are coming :)

Lets hope the economy can support all the new systems next year. Folks just now jumping on board with a new system or finally getting a 2nd or 3rd system will not want to turn around and get anther next year. The only good news is that it looks like the big 3 will have them spaced out far enough not to kill my wallet and stress my marriage. lol

I think a new 360 will sell decently at launch and trickle out for a year or two. PS4 is utterly doomed, especially before 2013, unless it's cheaper and more powerful than a PS3. And backward compatibility is critical for both consoles.

I don't think we need another xbox 360...I just think Microsoft can Improve Xbox 360 with just Update just like we get every year

i can see lots of people saying that this generation's graphics are getting out of date, ok , that is one reason to make a next gen console but it is not enough reason and it is the only thing i can see them improving in the future, everything seems perfect this gen and most of the problems can be fixed using the update feature, like i used to say before, if you want graphics stop being a whiny poor kid and get yourself a decent pc.

You know the only "new" feature that'll be really pushed with these new machines is crappy old 3D. Just pray that they don't swing more towards the motion control side of things. Very surprised to hear an internal Sony studio has ceased PS3 development. My money is on either Naughty Dog or Polyphony.

I think it's all bs imo. Can't see anything coming out next year. They might reveal something but I think it'll all kick off in 2013. Neither Microsoft or Sony should be so eager though.

This late 2012 launch doesn't seem so accurate to me. I beleive more in a middle 2013 launch

God, finally!!! Consoles have been maxed out their potential years ago! It was 2-3 years of stagnation for the game industry, both graphics and gameplay!

We want new epic IPs!! they can support consoles, like what GEOW did for X360 and uncharted for PS3

I will repeat the same question as I did last time. What would a new generation of consoles really add at this time that we are missing in our hardware? Don't mistake me. I own both a wii and ps3 this generation and love both systems (even if I get way more use of my ps3). But I think there really isn't anything that can be added at this time to justify a ps4 or xbox 720. If they wish us to purchase their new systems they really need to introduce us to why they feel we need these current wastes of development resources.

people are so ignorant. "current gen consoles have more untapped potential". no they don't. they have been milked down completely. it doesn't get any better than BF3, which in itself is barely better than BFBC2. same as Uncharted 3 is barely any better than Uncharted 2, similarly Forza 4 and Gears 3 failed to impress graphically as much as their predecessors. current-gen consoles GPUs will soon be as much as 8 generations behind PC. and when you think about it, no console has ever existed for more than 6 years or so. it's becoming unfair towards devs and pc gamers that consoles are pulling everything back like this, pc spec demands haven't increased meaningfuly for almost 2 years now. enough, old tech is old.

I'm planning to buy a new 360 during Christmas. would wait a bit longer

i am still quite happy with my PS3 , but in my opinion the xbox360 is going slow with only two major exclusives this year (GOW3 , FM4) , still , i think it is still too early to release the next gen consoles and in this economic state i don't think that they will sell very well knowing the fact that they will be 450$ or 500$ at least.

I know only one Thing nintendo will be kicked at E3 as always from big M and big S

2012 to me is a bit early for the next gen. Q4 2013 would be a better date. what (hardware/software) I would like to see is - DX11 (if not 12 by the time of release), 4 - 6 Core CPU, 6Gb of Ram, a 500 series geforce grafix card (when games are optimised for this car it will be amazing) and some new innovation in gaming/connecting/media centre.

does this mean halo 4 and (black ops 2?) will be on the new xbox or on the 360 for a month or two?

Think it's a bit soon really - still more to achieve with PS3 and Xbox360 IMO, greedy Sony and MS!!

the current gen consoles haven't been taken to their limits. why do we need another gen? i think sony and ms should wait a couple more years and each bring one hell of a console that takes gaming to a whole new level (but please, stick with the traditional controllers, none of that move-motion thing. let nintendo have it)

New release next year, and who knows how much longer until the price falls, games library fills up and I even start considering to buy it.

Well I better start saving my money now, 360 at launch was 400$(without games) and I wouldn't be surprised if next gen will be even higher

Assassins Creed III could be a release game.....

This is also great for PC gamers. PCs are much more powerfully than current console gen, but developers aren't using this power in most cases due to the fact that they develop for multi-platforms. New gen means better graphics, AI etc. which will affect PC games too.

No problem until they give backwards compatibility for PS3 and XBOX360.I own both of them and have 100 original disks.I dont want my old games to be lying useless in the corner

sony and microsoft should make there new consoles something game devs will find easy to make games for so the devs can make sure the games are made right that alone will improve next gen life span and games quality i guess.

I am fine with a new System!! As long as its Backwards compatible, which I am sure it will be.

I think it makes good sense to bring out new consoles next year while supposedly supporting current consoles for the next 3 years, allowing for a smooth transition.

@timmy0001 Thanks, that's very big of you, and you are not a prick I some times think I'm the prick for showing the links more then one time. I'm just sick of hearing fans saying everything from "I don't need one or two more polygons on the back of a monster's head", to "I will never care how realistic that rock on the ground looks, I just want fun gameplay!" And I'm like, "What? Really? Even if we can replay the big escape scene from 2012 in real-time, you still wouldn't want it? you think we can never go near that?" Sorry for the links, but it seem like only a hand full of people knows what could be possible on the next-gen. And I'm not just talking about graphics.

Are games even maxing out the current hardware? I shudder to think how expensive the next generation will be.

@packtop MS and Sony never said they wouldn't release a new console for 3 more years, what they said is that the current gen won't end until then. Which means they'll continue to support the current systems even if they release new ones.
