NPD: July sees PS3 overtake 360 in Canada

Good job SONY! Congratz!

I't's only 1 month. It doesn't really mean much yet. Sure it's good news for Sony no matter how you look at it just for the fact that they're selling consoles. But it doesn't mean much else. Not yet anyway. If this continues on a month by month basis then it'll be real news.

NeoNavarro, good point, maybe they want to try blue ray, but then again it only sold 15,000 units, the number 10 game probably sold like 50,000. p.s I am not dissing Canada or anything, but c'mon people are making a big deal about 15,000 units sold compared to 13,000, it is a difference of 2,000 only! I am just trying to say, that this is not going to decide the console war.

it is obvious the ps3 is a favored console. people would prefer it over the 360 if it were the same price cause its better

fat_boy_phil - I mean that consistency is better than starting off fast and petering out. The 360 is consistant.

The only logical reason why the PS3 could even outsell the 360 last month with no games is the 60GB clearance sale. CLEARANCE. That's what it's called when you suddenly cut the price of a product by a whole bill and discontinue it.

NeoNavarro - Selling "Well," but probably not well enougn for a lot of blockbusters yet. Wait until Lair and Heavenly Sword come out.

Not surprised... I'm canadian and I think that considering the Wii is half the price of the ps3, it's only normal that the sales for the wii are twice as high. It's not hard to invest in a console with 280$, whereas paying 550$ for a PS3 is stupid since there are not really many games to justify the purchase. However, considering that Sony has always had the best games for their consoles, and that Heavenly Sword, Lair and Warhawk will all be in-stores by September 12th, people will deffinetly start spending their money for a new shiny PS3. Although at the moment I'm waiting, just to be safe, to decided whether I will buy a 360 or a PS3 come September 12th. I can't wait.

How is PS3 selling so well in Canada but yet there isn't a single PS3 game on the list? What are people just buying it for the Blu-Ray player?

The reason PS3 is out selling Xbox 360 is because Microsoft is screwing the Canadians by not having any Entertainment content. In the U.S. you guys get T.V. shows movies and all that. But here in Canada we pay the same price for xbox live for nothing doesn't feel to fair. A lot of the people i talk too are saying forget Microsoft and going back to Sony.

But remember Yuko that Nintendo realized that when they published WiiPlay. Frankly I think the bundle was brilliant since it was an excuse for gamers to buy a game that, as you said, wouldn't have sold well and also introduced another casual game into homes so that more non-gamers would be attracted to the Wii.

I own all three systems, but this isnt very newsworthy, they out sold 360 by 2,00 units and the Wii still beat em both combined......Canada is not going to decide the winner.

kingtrewq - Considering how expensive that stupid remote is, it's not a bad "deal." Considering the "Games" that make up Wii Play, that title wouldn't have sold a tenth on its' own merit. fat_boy_phil - I wouldn't say everyone has one, but the system has settled into a reliable, consistent 120k-150k a month in North America. The tortoise always beat the hare, expecially considering how voraciously 360 owners buy games.

i hope xbox monopolizes on the dragonball mmo thats supposed to be coming to pc an rumored for xbox.

Frank, A port of a 2001 Xbox game to the PC released during the Farcry, Doom 3, and HL2 era does not count. You cannot hold it against Halo because you played a 2001 game several years later. And your list is kind of flawed as none of the games listed prior to 2001 had any vehicular combat. Whether or not you like Halo's gameplay or story, it was the first shooter that I played that implemented vehicular combat and ragdoll physics. No shooter in the PS2's lifetime can touch it. Killzone wasn't even close.

Finally people are coming around to see that the ps3 is a better built game console than the 360. No overheating issues ever. All the 360 has is Gears and xbox live.

wow, Wii is STILL dominating over everything (besides DS, but who cares about the DS) after so long. its amazing, the difference in sales. 360 and PS3 are close to each other, but Wii just crushes both sales. personaly i prefer the Wii, even though the 360 has a pretty amazing lineup of games.

the question is.... its only the price dropped console that helps ps3 outsell but what will happen when the 60gig ps3 are no more? theres peopel in ebgames and gamestop thatt go buy a 60gig ps3 and since the store doesnt have anymore they end up getting a 360 cause they think the 80gig ps3 is too expensive, so what will happend when theres no more?

yea FrankSoul its just im not really a big fan of turn based combat and um wtf at one of the ff games intro...DOH singing?...anyways i have never really given ff a REAL try idk y but on the ps1 i did play some turn based games but no ff and i dont understand y everyone likes to say ff left nintendo to go to sony because its better but yet sony was with nintendo for awhile but that deal broke up once nintendo decided not to put a disc add on to the snes which i think was a good move for nintendo because 1. gives them more competition and 2. i can only think of 1 console add on that was good and that was the n64 expansion pack

i was using FF online because it was ( to my knowledge) the only MMORPG on xbox, if you do not like them it is your choice but it is one of the biggest and faster growing market for gaming company ( think World of warcraft and Guildwars) i mean if 360 ends up being the only one having RTS games on console and actualy gives them keyboard and mouse support i will buy one right away as for Freelancer well its one of those franchise MS could have made HUGE! but alas did not as for the Gaming company charging well it is just like PC :P
