NPD: July sees PS3 overtake 360 in Canada

Tell this to the PS3's getting dusty on my local store shelves.

Anthony71B: it is undeniable that the 360 has overheating problems, it is also undenialbe it is over exageratted. Not every 360 breaks and if that is the only thing you have to say against the console thrashing the PS3 I'd prefer to just agree with the many millions more who vote with there feet and get a 360 over a PS3 like me.

Nintendo is the biggest seller no big news there ! props to nintendo thats a good marketing move to make a cheap ( price) console, now please be more third party dev friendly and bring on some good games, i still cry that my gamecube only played mario kart and sushine. ( i hate super smash brother sorry). as for MS 360 well.. hum no offense but your shooters suck big time, halo was and is still one of the medium quality shooter around ( go take a look at how ''well'' it did on pc :P) if only you would develop on some other types of game( pls no more sport, racing and shooters, althought props on RTS but what is the point without a keyboard and mouse :( ) that being said Sony you dumbass bring us some games to go with that console im tired of listening to 300 !, now people need to remember 360 is already over 3 and half year old ( not released but from SDK) so your bound to it a wall soon enough. Wii well, were is Mario kart ? and hurray for Mario galaxy!! as for PS3 i want my Grand turismo demnit! and Unreal tournament sooner! ( hurray mouse and keyboard) also pls for the love of us rpg fan bring something good soon Arena net! and also good move we will have civilization on PS3 love that game ! wii is my next console to get in the house as soon as MK and MG is out.

Halo 3= Product that will sell millions of consoles(360's), thus allowing MS to finally deplete its 90nm chipset console inventory. What does this mean? Millions of new repair center customers. HAHAHA. This is sad, but true-DON'T EVEN THINK OF DENYING IT! Halo 3= Bait

So the list of game son 360 is Too human, Mass effect, Lost oddyssey, Halo 3, Bioshock, Fable 2, Halo wars, Blue dragon and Gears of war 2. Thats just the exclusives. Anyone interested in Devil may cry 4, assassin's creed, GTA IV, Call of Duty 4, and whatever else could also get a 360 and enjoy those. Even looking back there is more exclusives to be had too, Kameo, perfect dark zero, Lost planet, Dead or alive 4,Forza motorsport, Project gotham racing 3 (and 4 to come) GRAW etc. Many many games. I think the Xbox fans pretty much won this debate so I'm bored now, might leave for a while unless someone says something radically fanboyish I can counter or something with a real point about the PS3 being good in the long run.

Hmm yes, Canada had a nice price cut for the PS3, but in August X360 sales will go up again because it too gets a very good price cut.

ive noticed every time sum1 bashes the 360 on these forums they always say the only game 360 has is halo 3... even though we also have Two worlds,bioshock,eternal sonata, mass effect, assassins creed, Left 4 dead, blue dragon, and other great titles coming out, i can say one thing for sure though i own both a PS3 and 360, and the only game thats worth buying IMO for PS3 at the moment is resistance. where as for my 360 i have way more then just 1 game...

I was one of the many who got a PS3 durring this time period. One important thing to note is that EB Games in Canada had a trade in 10 games get $299 off a PS3. And they made the mistake of printing the flyer without the legalese (cannot combined deals sort of thing) I went to my local ma and pop store, bought 20 cheap games, and walked out of EB with a PS3 and a game with store credit to boot. I think quite a few of my fellow Canadians benifited from this. 360 still domintates in the north, PS3 just had a good month. The PS3 is still a good system, but XBOX has a noticibly higher attach rate up here.

Can someone tell me when the triple AAA games are coming out for the PS3?

yeah. the PS3 is wayyyy better in the long run. I'd definitly rather buy a console that costs too much with sucky games, than a console with awesome games and great online that just might break on you and you have to get fixed. I'd definitly rather have the PS3 because of ALL the exclusives and great games it will recieve in the future (ZOMG! A remake of myspace! yay!), than a console that actually added something new called motion sensing to new games and plus lets you download great games from the past. Oh yeah...Halo 3 is gonna suck cus all of the ones before it got horrible reviews, which is why Killzone 2 is gonna rock, cus the first one got awesome reviews right? *end sarcasm*

Canada may have a smaller population but consumer trends are notably similar to U.S.A. so in this manner it can be seen as a "testing grounds" of sorts..kind of like what McDicks does actually. But hey eventually it all comes down to the games right.

i'm still wonderin... how many PS3s r left up here in canada in july 15 000 were sold the wii just hogged the sales =P and the DS at almost 46 000 sold that month while the PSP just sold 6,000 the PS3 just bested the the Xbox360 by 2,000 to me i doesnt seem that much

why are ps3 fans always trying to convince everybody that their incredibly powerful console is 1000 times better than the 360 just because the console got a 100 bucks price cut and it surpasses 360 sales for 2000 units. common, that means nothing in the long term, halo 3 is gonna make a lot of 360 sales, by millions, not 2000 units.

BidedFury: not all 360's break, mine still works fine and I've had it since January.

Remember that all of the replacements for broken 360's count on the sales charts. Xbox is not doing as well as the charts predict.

To drewt003: Well Halo 3 isn't the only title but it is obviously the biggest so no wonder it gets so much attention. No different to MGS4 and FFXIII being paled in comparison slightly to the fandom around Killzone 2 despite the prior 2 mentioned games most likely being better. There is many good games coming to the 360, GTA !V, Assassin's creed, DMC4, Halo 3, Too human, Mass effect, Bioshock and more. To slate Halo 3 as the only title just shows your ignorance. I sure hope the rest of Sony's titles don't dissapoint as much as Lair, R:FOM and Motor storm XD

I want to see the list of top selling games past the 10th. Those are ALL games that parents buy for their kids(not bashing quality, but that's probably why they sell so much). I saw someone bash the Wii because the top selling games are either Mario, or come with a free Wii-mote. The only other games on the list are pokemon, guitar hero and transformers(value pack excluded). Either way, I'm thinking the sales for Xbox360 and PS3 are going to be tight for a while. PS3's price drop was temporary, which explains it's sudden drastic sales increase, but it's been climbing even without it. Bioshock will probably sell more than a few Xbox360s however. Hell, I'm broke and I'm thinking of scrapping up the cash to buy one. Either way, Nintendo is on top, and looks like it'll stay that way for a long time, but it's great to see the industry as a whole growing!

lk1492 You are so dumb. Your saying we dont know a system, well you most likely own a 360, so you likely have received the 3 rings of death. The ps3 is the more reliable system to get in the long run. Why should I go buy a 360 and have to wry about it breaking on me. So we canadians know what systems to buy, but obviously some of the americans are to stupid to realize 360's failure rate is 1 in 3. Yet you continue to dump money into buying that garbage machine thus preventing microsoft from doing a recall and then selling you a system that will last a very long time. So dont say us Canadians know nothing because it seems we are spending our money on the better products then you americans.

You mean to say gamespot more or less ignored canada's sales trends in their news up until now? I wonder why... maybe because theyre looking for news to bump up sony? to landau492: thats like saying does it hurt that I got tapped in a fight I won, sales of the 360 overall are massively higher at the moment, this is just one months PREDICTED sales and to top it off it was due to a price cut. No I am not that bad about it really XP I like the PS3, I just think Sony should pull their fingers out of their butts and release a proper price cut in the UK, stop stripping down the American ones and whatever in Japan. they said they got rid of the 20gb due to consumer demand, that was a lie, they got rid of it because two SKU's was too expensive on a debt creating console so they went with the most popular. If they based it on popularity they would keep the 60 gb emotion engin SKU and not the stripped down 80gb model.
