PS3 gains on Wii in Japan

And this is why this article headline makes sense "The Nintendo Wii is still outselling the PlayStation 3 by 2-to-1 in Japan, although the gap between the rival formats has closed for the fourth consecutive month. The latest figures released by Enterbrain and reported by Reuters show that Nintendo shifted 110,415 units in the four weeks to October 28, while Sony sold 47,183 PlayStation 3 units. Microsoft continues to struggle in the region, with sales of the Xbox 360 reaching 18,717 units for the same period."

So the Wii jumped about 3500 units and the PS3 jumped about 1500 units... which is the exact same gap it was before... unless the gap was larger before I have to ask how exactly is the PS3 gaining on Wii? And I don't mean to be sarcastic or be a fanboy of any kind either, I'm just wondering how they figure that it's gaining when it's pretty much the same as last week, unless of course the sales of the PS3 were worse before in which case yeah that's an improvement but it's still selling about 10000 more units per week then PS3.

Ya right who cares which console sales more, it's nothing we gamers can be so excited about since we are not the ones who take the cash. dudes .. WAKE UP !! all we should get excited about are the games , the GAMES !! Period. I don't give a f*** about which market or company gets more cash for that doesn't affect me as a gamer at all !! so knock it off already, Sony , MS or Nintendo who gets the cash? unless you work for one of these giants you don't need to find the answer , anyway !

Now if you noticed, the sales figures show that Nintendo is still ahead. PS3 is catching up sure, but by then it would be what...next christmas? The Wii is not a game system, it is a Nintendo cash-in machine that happens to resemble a game console. As soon as it stops being considered one we can look at the figure for actual game systems.

No the article isn't misleading it reads the truth its just Gamespot forgot to mention the reason as to why or how Sony is closing the gap.. If you scroll down I posted it to clear it up.

The PSP is still maintaining strong sales, regardless of it being in second place handheld, it seems to be a great one to have that has been able to stand against Nintendo reign of handheld gaming.

"Maybe the zelda games are ok, but if you are still playing mario games, you might need to get checked for autism.. or have your diaper changed to see if your balls dropped." Or you might need to start acting more mature than the games with 'M'-ratings seem to lead you to be. Just because you're playing games with flashy graphics and lots of gore doesn't make you a 'grown-up' gamer. It just makes you a guy/girl with a penchant for making up for a lack of manliness with big guns and lots of blood. I highly doubt any 'child' of eight or younger could easily complete the first Super Mario game, let alone Super Mario 64 or Super Mario Sunshine..so stop trying to claim how 'easy' those games are for kids, eh? I mean, Hell. I 'completed' GTA3 faster than I 'completed' Mario Sunshine.. Plus you need to consider the 'Mature' games that Nintendo are beginning to bring out, that people like you seem to be interested in. Some of them are very promising.

Once Brawl comes out, the Wii will be selling 3-5 times more than it is now for sure.

I see a lot of Sony fans complain about GameSpot taking bad PS3 news and parading it out in the town square because they're biased. Well folks, here's an article you don't have to worry about complaining about. They took stats about the PS3 still getting killed in Japan and gave it a totally misleading, pro-Sony article heading. Reading that title, you'd have thought the PS3 outsold the Wii this week instead of only mustering 68% of the console sales the Wii did.

Hmm. According to my calculations based on these numbers PS3 % share increased by 0.27% and Wii % share increased by 0.48%. Seems like the WIi widening the gap to me. Where are you getting your information from Gamespot? (Calculations were based on % share of ds, psp, ps3, wii and 360 only) PS, DS % share increased by 0.48% and PSP dropped 1.51%,

Well thats true, however one of the local super store by my house raked in over 20 units. Most they have ever had. Local Target brought about the same. Perhaps the shortage is over? As for the shortage being said a bunch of times, I haven't read a point once in this thread mentioning that until now.

This is the dumbest article. Wii gained on the PS3. The Wii sold more this month, again, than the PS3. The lead that the Wii has is growing wider. How is the PS3 gaining on the Wii when it continues to sell less?!?!?!

I think we're going to see similar trends in the US soon. One issue with the 360 that developers have been complaining about is the size limit of a standard DVD (Assassin's Creed was biggest title to run into this problem thus far). As games continue to get bigger and demand more, this will become a bigger problem. I think that due to this, we'll start seeing better PS3 exclusives as time goes on that will really increase their sales.

The headline makes no sense. How exactly did the PS3 gain on the Wii? Over those two weeks the Wii increased its sales by 2,600 whereas the PS3 sales increased by only 1,600.

It's not lack of software thats holding back the Wii this has been made clear a dozen times.. It's lack of consoles the Wii won't "explode" with SMG or SSMB: Brawl the Wii will explode when Supply can meet Demand.

Actually the Wii sold by a larger margin this week as compared to last. Lsst week the margin was 7802 in favor of Wii, this week it is 8707 in favor of Wii. Maybe ratio-wise, but it sounds like some pro-PS3 bias in the headline.

Does this mean that Japan also gets more PS3 games than the rest of the world? Cause if not, I don't get it. :shock:

It's simple.. the WII much like the kiddy cube was good for only those who are too young to play real video games and while the sales of the WII have been good, it will taper off much like the GC. 360? lolz, after halo and maybe fable, much like the last gen the 360 is going to fall off. The ps3 is off to a slow start, but once the games start coming, prepare for the PS3 to dominate the global market by 2010. By 2008 / mid 2009 it will catch up to the wii in worldwide sales and start the gap. The cap in sales won't be as great at the last gen (120 million system sold vs 50 million combined for the kiddycube and xbox), but for the 3rd system war in a row, it will overthrow the competition. And asia is THE market area for video games. Between the koreans and the japanese, those two alone are the most hardcore/die hard gamers in the world. Go to NPD and look at the sales figures by region for the wii. So you heard it here first by 2010 the PS3 will be back on top. Wii's audience will have outgrown the sysem and the crapbox 360 will have run out of really good games like the last gen. But hey.. at least this time around the 360 might actually outsell the xbox. Might.

why has the title of this new bulletin changed? Before it was something like "all console hardware sales increase in Japan", yet now it's suddenly changed to a title that doesn't even make sense. The wii actually widened the gap on the PS3 according to the numbers there. Glad to see Gamespot hasn't taken sides, not.

yep,im glad someone else noticed that.GAMESPOT has became platently sided with SONY.I have had several messages deleted just for saying that Sony have lost the formnat war etc etc. TBH it was to be expectedi bet there are more GAMESPOT members who are sony fanboys then others so they appeal to where the money is...that or the editor is a sony fanboy ; ).
