Sony Won't Allow In-Development Ark: Survival Evolved on PS4, Dev Says

"We would like nothing more than to make Ark available on PS4 as soon as possible."

Sony will not allow an in-development version of dinosaur survival game Ark: Survival Evolved on PlayStation 4, according to developer Studio Wildcard. In a forum post today, the developer said fans who want to play as soon as possible should reach out to Sony.

"As for the PS4 Release of Ark: Survival Evolved, it is currently up to Sony," Studio Wildcard explained. "We've been informed that we can't release the game on this platform until it has been finished.

"We would like nothing more than to make Ark available on PS4 as soon as possible, as we already have an awesome PS4 version of the game running internally. If you would like to see it sooner, please let Sony know, as it's unfortunately not our decision."

Survival Evolved is available on PC through Steam Early Access and on Xbox One through Game Preview. The PS4 does not have a program along the lines of Early Access, which may explain why Sony reportedly won't allow the in-progress version of Survival Evolved on the PS4.

GameSpot has reached out to Sony in an attempt to get its side of the story.

In other news about Survival Evolved, Studio Wildcard recently announced that it was removing the free-to-play Survival of the Fittest version on PC. As for PS4 and Xbox One versions, these are on hold indefinitely.

Survival Evolved launched in June 2015 for PC and came to Xbox One later. Despite not even being finished yet, the game has sold 5.5 million copies across both platforms.

Sony's arrogance is outrageous right now. No crossplay with Xbox. No EA Access. No backwards compability. No indie preview support. Its gaming environment is so limited right now. Gamers ask and the answer is always "NO".

@Zicoroen: You do know that Sony have had Cross-play with PC for a long time? Xbox want Cross-play on their terms, Sony has PS NOW so doesn't make sense to have EA access, Playstation has plenty of Indie support and not everyone is interested in BC especially when they can get a cheap PS3 or own one.

EA can't be on PS4 because that might put some PS4 gamers in a predicament on having to choose between the 2 because not everyone can afford to pay for PSN+, EA Access and PS NOW, do you see the conflict of interest now?? Also you said 'between the 2" and provided 3 services, so don't tell me about grammar coming from someone who can't count. And you do realise PS Plus (not PSN +), EA Access, and PS Now are optional. It's not like you have to subscribe to all of them. Anyway I don't expect you to understand the word "optional" or "choice", since your common sense is far too gone. Also I love how you pull the "I own every console" argument. Talk is cheap, prove it.

@vanquishre: The reason I stated that PS gamers have to choose between the 2 is because if you have EA Access, most games on there require PS +, so pretty much no option but to have. Show me where my grammar was wrong. It seems to me that most people bleeding out of their everywhere about Sonys stance are mainly Xbox fanboys, funny that lol So you don't agree that there's conflict of interest between EA access and PS Now? You only have to go through my comment history to realise that I am no fanboy, everything I say is from a neutral point of view.

PS what is the problem in Sony saying finish your game then we'll have it on PSN? The demand for the game is around 12,000 people out of around 45,000,000 so I don't have a problem waiting like many others.

@letsgame82: Again, like i said, options. Those who do not wish to spend on both EA Access and PS Plus, then don't. It is as simple as that. For people who want to, they can't, because Sony said so. If you're truly neutral then you would agree Sony shouldn't be the one to control what the gamers can or cannot subscribe to. Even PC has Origin Access, and I don't have to subscribe to it. You ignoring the fact EA Access and PS Plus are optional means you are not neutral.

Also who said Sony will definitely allow them to publish to PSN once it's finished? This is Sony, a company who doesn't allow you to give options, but I don't expect to understand the word options, since you ignore that point. Of course you're waiting you can't play it until Sony says so.

@vanquishre: What options has Sony rejected? Since you keep going on about it...You picked up "coz" to slam my grammar but you spelt "i'm" as "im" haha you're reaching! Read the article, Sony said finish your game first before they can green light it. That sounds like they are open to having it on PS Store otherwise they would've said no, I don't see a problem in that.

Also nowhere in the article did it say Sony will definitely publish it on the PS Store once it's finished. They only said the game can't until it's finished. @letsgame82: Let's summarize the point: on PC or Xbox, players can choose if they want a feature or not. They have a choice, even if some act against the company financial desire. Why Sony just don't let its players choose what is better for them? If EA access is bad, nobody will subscribe it, just like most of us don't subscribe PS Now and really desire to play our last gen games on our new consoles, free, just like our fellow Xbox friends do. Gamers choice is the point. Something that some - usually delusional fanboys - don't want to see. Sony's greed is more powerful than its consumers desires and works like a dictatorship. By the way, Sony is called Donald Trump of gaming right now... :)

As a console only gamer, I don't want Early access on consoles , why would I pay someone for my ideas? That's their job to suprise me the consumer and not be lazy and freeload. You keep going on about how greed Sony is but if they were , wouldn't the PS4 have cost more than the X1 if it's more powerful? Even without the Kinect, it was still more expensive for a while , who is really greed? Greed is taking more than you need to.

Crossplay over 10 years? It was just an incipent intiative, for a few insignificant games when the crossplay feature wasn't a technical standard. But now that it is, what does Sony fear? Why keep players blind about what is better outside its own ecosystem?

And early access is choice once again. If you don't want, just don't play it. But you should if you want. But Sony fears something.

Sony's greed is everywhere, The points discussed are all about that. And console prices are usually concerned about it's building plan, not greed exactly...

There's a petition for Ark and only around 12,000 signed it out of 43,000,000. so the choice was made by PS4 owners and by the way, I don't even believe you're PS4 owner coz you would've known that they've been slowly adding features to the PS4 which Playstation players have been requesting. I hope Sonys stance on Ark sends a message to any future devs who decide to charge people for a beta, I see this as a plus for majority of gamers (not fanboys) with common sense. Keep Early Access on the PC.

1 - as I said before, crossplay had technical problems years ago and just a few initiatives could support it. Sony and MS did some trials. Just check games like Shadowrun on Xbox. But right now most problems are gone, but Sony fears it could lose consumers. Why? What else is better? Sony prefers blind sheep;

2 - online petition? C'mon. It's 2016 and it doesn't work, kid. I never heard about an Ark petition. Steam and MS have an oficial forum and consumers service that let you write anything you want and they answer what you ask. Take a look at backwards compability games list and MS answer. Sony should do something like that, but it won't;

3 - choice once again. You're not forced to buy an "in construction" game. But players must have a choice to try it if they want and developers have support to test their ideas before launch. By your logic, maybe more than 6 million players that support Ark right now are not having fun.

Choice and transparency. Something Sony doesn't give us.

@Zicoroen: let's go over each point to that there is no misunderstanding.

1. if sony chooses to enact crossplay with xbox (which they may still do), it has the potential to reduce ps4 sales. the majority of console gamers are playing on ps4. most of the user base has their friends on psn. in the cases where xbox gamers want to play with their friends on psn, sony would prefer that they purchase a ps4 and become part of the sony ecosystem. that is simple business thinking and there is nothing wrong with that.

2. sony's ps+ service is similar to ea access. why would sony encourage competition on their own platform if they don't have to?

3. ps3 backwards compatibility on ps4 is impossible. get over it. at least they are releasing ps2 classics on ps4. there is also ps now streaming service for ps3 games. it is a pretty good alternative and will become better as internet speeds and infrastructure improves over the coming years. it is a forward thinking solution that will prove to be very beneficial for sony when the gaming industry switches over to streaming based services over hardware based ones.

4. early access sucks. period. psn would soon become flooded with trash and resemble steam if they opened their doors to such practices. sony doesn't want that and who can blame them? if you want such services, you can easily go over to steam. why does psn need to become steam? why can't each platform holder have their own identity? you want psn to copy other services for reasons i cannot understand. unique features that each platform holder provides is what makes consoles unique. you sound like a pc gamer so why are you complaining what console publishers do?

1 - crossplay and "potential to reduce PS4 sales"? Why? How gaming together can reduce PS4 sales? What exactly will PS4 players discover that reduces PS4 attractiveness? And if it happens, is the player the one to be blind about it, or is it just a bad company behavior to keep gamers blind about the truth?

2 - is EA Access just like Games with Gold? Your logic is wrong by itself and an evidence about lack of choice on Sony's ecosystem;

3 - I'll summarize the point: players don't want to pay for games they own already and be forced to pay for something they don't want to;

@Xristophoros: You want your console to have the worst service. That's a weird behavior, but maybe you're just delusional I hope. That seems choice is something you don't like to have. I can understand that for kids that need their mon to choose what they eat, but not for gamers. But your're better, as you know and recommend better plataforms that give functions that yours can't. @Xristophoros: Just to counter some of the things you said...

1. "nothing wrong with that" yes there is something wrong with not accepting crossplay, it means that Sony has no interest for you gamers to be able to play with more players, and frankly since RL is already on Xbox One and PC, its not like buying a PS4 makes any differences in playing Rocket League. It wont make any difference in sales, and not accepting cross-play just shows "4 the gamers" is a lie.

2. Xbox Live Gold also competes with EA access by your logic, and MS is fine with that. And no, the ability to play multiplayer doesnt compete with a subscription that is focused on being able to play EA games.

3. I can see that PS3 is so different BC would be much harder than what MS had to do, but needing to pay for games you already own isnt a consumer friendly move, and if they did allow you to use PS Now with the games you own then at least its an effort.

4. More features is apparently bad. Ok. Lets have less features for PS5, since its what you want.
