Wii outselling PS3 in Japan 5-to-1

Sony seems to be getting owned harder and harder. Its a shame really, but they did it to themselves and Nintendo is not going to let them regroup. All we can say is good job Nintendo. ::goes back to playing Wii::

*Cheers* Well done Nintendo. Sony was dominating the gaming world with their consoles, it must have taken alot to overtake them. On the other hand, Sony had made more than their share of mistakes with the PS3 manufacture and release. Don't get me wrong, the PS3 is a technological marvel, so it is anything but pitiable. Nintendo was just quicker too release and, much cheeper than the PS3.

Sony took a huge chance adding the blu ray to their console which has made the console about $600. They took a risk and it is not working. Will the future titles help it might but will they be good enough to get it selling.

I have to take my hat off to Nintendo,good job!!, I have a PS3 and I'm happy with it ,but Nintendo is the reason I played video games,I'm in my late 20's,all consoles bring something good to the table they are all good,now wheres my copy Ninja Gaiden Sigma for my PS3??? lol.

Sony fans know the console isn't selling well because of it's price and can Sony drop the price if not they no chance

I'm not really suprised. The wii is so much more accessable. Honestly, I would really like to buy a ps3, but with how its selling, I wouldn't be suprised if there was a price drop by the time MGS4 came out.

this shouldnt suprise anybody its less than half price of ps3. i applaud nintendo for growing the market and making a game system my mom can play. 360/ps3 relys on tried and true gaming conventions that have been built up for the past 20 years. and nintendo just reset the bar making a whole new set of conventions that everybody can learn.

Consumers speak with their wallets and it sounds to me like the Mario Factory is giving consumers what they want. As for the DS to PSP comparison, the DS provides new innovative games that are fun and different. The PSP let's you play weaker versions of your PS2/PS3 games. Bring the PS3 price down to $400 and include a FREE PSP and then we'll talk.

Ahh Alex4, You must be a Sony fanboy....ha ha, just kidding. I myself am 29 years old and have probably forgotten more about gaming than most of these kids on here will ever know about. So I feel your pain there.

You know what I really can't stand about video game forums or just plain comment-threads like this: People constantly complaining about Fanboys. You Sony fanboys this, you xbox fanboys this... and you nintendo wii fanboys this and that. Quit calling each other stupid and retarded OK!! I bought a PS3 because I like Sony and bought A LOT OF PS2 & PS1 games! Get the idea. I would embrace Xbox360 and Wii but there just isn't enough time/money in my life to play the games from 2, let alone 3, different consoles!! Don't get me wrong I played Nintendo games: (NES 1988-1991) and SNES (1991-1995), probably before some of you kids were born. Stop hating and insulting each other, already. Any adult would see why Wiis are selling better than PS3 over there. It's not that big of a deal that a gamer should attack and defend their bread and butter!!!!

i agree with u BlackDragon110 but the wii is a good selling system. All I can say is, the PS3 just came out with not that may good games thats what peple look at and the price.

Wow. I can't believe it. 20 page full of post from whining Sony fanboys. Seriously anyone besides me thinks that's pretty sad? I mean almost every post sounds almost exactly the same as the one before it. It's either, "wait until X game comes out”, “wait until next year", “Wait till the hype dies down” or, "the Wii isn't a next gen console', and my personal favorite, "It's because the Wii cost so much less". Here's a crazy thought, maybe it's selling so much is because it's actually a fun system to play **Sony fanboys gasp in disbelief** Seriously the Wii has sold nearly 7.5 million units in just six months after it’s release. By comparison the PS3 has only sold about 3.2 million and the 360 has sold almost 11 million. The Wii is selling a lot faster than anyone thought. Even Nintendo themselves are surprised but it’s success. Now it’s far too early to start declaring any winners of losers, but why try and diss the Wii for being successful? I know that Sony fan boys all declared that the PS3 would dominate like it did last time, right now it’s starting to look like that might not be the case this time around. I guess it’s only natural that they would want to defend their system. It’s just that doing so by lashing out at the Wii for being successful, especially when it was considered the underdog, makes them look childish.

Amen, Darkone778, amen. I wish people would spend less time arguing over which game system is the best, and more time just enjoying playing games. The PS3 and 360 are both spectacular visually, and have some awesome games on them. Gears of War, for example, is simply awesome. The Wii isn't as powerful, but it can be really fun with a bunch of players. Not to mention its huge library of downloadable classic games and small price tag. All I'm saying is that each game system is fun to play, and if you are so loyal to one game company that you spend your time radically defending them and bashing thier competitors, then maybe video games have rotted your brain cells away after all.

Hardcore gamers are the extreme minority when it comes to gamers as a whole. Nintendo is targeting gamers as a whole, not just a select few.....a brilliant strategy in my opinion, and that's why they are selling so well.

Speaking only for myself... I applaud Nintendo for their strategies and their successes. It's just that there have been barely any games that I've been interested in for their consoles since the SNES. My gaming tastes grew up as I did, so I looked for other options. The ratio could be 50 to 1 - I still don't want a Wii or a DS.

ok people, the wii might have a lot of sales but u have to look at the situation its a kid system with kiddy games and some gurls and people never had a system. But the PS3 and 360 have more MATURE games for the hardcore thinking like god of war and spliter cell. So anyways u will have alot of people buying because its more fun and understanding.

Here's another interesting point, Sony wants Blu Ray to be successful so they focused on that to avoid another "Betamax" debaucle like they had in the 80's. Because of their focus on driving the Blu Ray format they ignored the gaming part of the PS3. Developers have complained many times about how hard games are to produce on the PS3 due to it's complex architechture. So as a result, the Xbox 360 and the Wii, both of which you can purchase for the same price as one PS3, are very appealing to developers and that is why the PS3 has lost so many of their "exclusive" titles. It's also interesting to point out that every game produced for the Wii is "exclusive" due to the fact that you get to play the game in an entirely unique way than you can on the other consoles.

You're all completely missing the point, the most important aspect to a console is the games !!! The Wii doesn't have a substantial library of games and there are no big releases on the horizon. However the PS3 and 360 have a great number of big titles for release in the next few months. No matter if they are AAA titles or substandard titles, the important aspect is that the software is there for the console. And this is what counts. The Wii is very gimmicky and doesn't have much of a shelf life due to its very, very limited technology. For God sake this is the first Nintendo system that actually plays Music CD's !!! If the games aren't there then why bother purchasing the console ? At least with PS3 and the 360 you know from past consoles that they will have a great many games for release. Just look at the Gamecube and the very small library of games it eventually had. At the end of the day it's a decision about games and not necessarily the hardware. The PS3 and 360 have a stronger library of games and so the choice is made easier.

@ragin_massaih, all i am simply saying is that each console has its different target audiences and that for all these fanboys to sit here and say this console is better than this one is either complete ignorance or complete stupidity. To all the Fanboys and girls to whatever console you got enjoy it hope you got alot of life out of this generation of consoles. But bashing be it Nintendo, Sony, Microsoft whoever is completely pointless. and shows a serious lack of maturity along the lines of gamers its this kinda stuff that makes people think video games are nothing more than a something to do to waist time. When its all about having fun. Hence the variety in consoles makes the overall video game market better. If you want to look at one segment of video game market look at pc gaming as awhole other than a few titles there is nothing to stand out and lot of the games tend to be from Microsoft game studios. No real competition to there operating system makes developers lacks. in things like updates when they ship games full of bugs. So again chill out stop the stupid fanboy or girl stuff and enjoy the consoles you do own and let the people that have a different flavor of the gaming market enjoy theirs

Heh, what I don't understand is why everyone keeps saying "the wii is bringing the fun back to gaming?" Thats like justin timberlake saying he's bringing sexy back. The wii is fun don't get me wrong, but please people lets give each system it's do respect here, they all are designed to be fun.

Wii will rock you when Brawl and Metroid and all the other games start pouring out... PS3 will definetly put up a fight, and then wii will see who is it gonna be. Sony had it too easy for too long... I think that Nintendo is smashing th competition at the moment... AT THE MOMENT... Personaly I'm pro Nintendo, so I hope that things will go well for them...

Statistics do not lie and a 5 to 1 ratio of Wii's outselling PS3's is outstanding. It just goes to prove that high quality games that are also tons of fun to play will always outshine those games that took lots of money to produce just so they could look pretty but ultimately ended up playing like garbage. Sony fanboys stop whining. Your console was produced by an arrogant, self absorbed bunch of money hungry windbags that don't know their rear end from a hole in the ground. Nintendo cares about quality, inovative products, that satisfies a huge target audience. Sony cares only about hard-core gamers (a very small percentage of the total gaming populace) and their bottom line......

No innovation and no must-have exclusives that'll definitely stay exclusive = Sony loses. The only aces they can count on are their own SCE made games. But let's face it, most people don't have $600 to throw around for hardware that's inferior, in all ways but durability, to the more affordable Xbox 360.

They are so many AAA games coming up, they're tripping over themselves for release dates. The Big N is going to have to deliver some quality games this year. They're convinced they'll hit their release dates, so let's hope they do. It's sad Mario Pary didn't do better. It should have been perfect for the Wii remote.
