We've hit 1000 posts in New Acquisitions, Volume 8, so now it's time for a new edition of New Aquisitions!

Carry on, my friends.

New Acquisitions Thread Format Suggestions

The CCU's most popular series of threads is, without question, New Acquisitions. Considering that we're on volume nine now, there have been a total of well over eight thousand posts created. All that activity means that you could easily get lost in forty or fifty new posts if you miss a few days. In order to alleviate such troubles, the officers provide a few recommended guidelines for posting your fabulous new purchases in a streamlined and efficient manner.

1. Be as thorough as possible.

When listing your acquisitions, please include the following data:

Title - Self explanatory.
Platform - Hardware the game runs on; PS2, 360, DS, etc.
Condition - New or used, or a grading: near mint, fair, poor, etc.
Completeness - Complete, disc or cartridge only, etc.
Source - Where you purchased the item; eBay, GameStop, Amazon, Wal-Mart, etc.
Price - Self explanatory.
Rarity - *See Below

This would cut down on the need for question and answer follow-up posts, such as: Q: "Where did you get that?" A: "From here.", Q: "For how much?", A: "Five bucks.", Reply: "That's a great deal!". Instead, someone could cut straight to the reply, "That's a great deal!", eliminating four question-and-answer posts. Follow-up posts that comment on the acquisition as a whole or a specific title, the quality of the pickup, a congrats, or things of that nature are very much encouraged.

Of course, it is not mandatory to include all of this information. You may very well not know the rarity rating, or you may not want to divulge the cost. But if you don't mind sharing the information, and you know it, please do include it.

(Just to note, as you're adding games to your GameSpot collection, you can copy and paste the link to the game into a message edit window. This saves on typing, and automatically puts the title, platform and a link to the game's GameSpot main page into your post.)

* If you have one of the Digital Press Collector's Guides please include the Rarity Rating. A detailed description of the Rarity Ratings provided by aspro can be found here.

2. Try to keep images to a minimum.

In consideration of members that may be visiting the union on a slower connection, please keep images in the New Acquisition thread to a minimum, both in terms of file-size and number of images.

If you've got a lot of pictures to post, or even a few larger ones, feel free to dazzle us from the comfort of the CCU Game Collection Photo Thread. After all, that's what it's there for, so go ahead and show off! We love pictures of towering stacks of games!

-------------------------

Hopefully, these recommendations will make the New Acquisitions thread a bit more manageable to read through, and content-consistent. Good luck with your purchases!

You seem to live near me so you can probaby find them at Target and Toys R Us like I do. I know that someone else around here has a complete set of them. I remember him posting a pic when he got them a while back. The figures in the set are Mario, Luigi, Yoshi, Bullet Bill, and ParaGoomba/Bob-Omb two pack.

Woah, woah, woah...please do tell more about these "Mario action figures"! Me may want!

Nintendo 4" Figure Mario

The figures are also available with special tin cases, but I've never seen those in stock.

Nintendo Speciality Tins Mario & Bob-omb

Now to find a place that sells those damned Castlevania figures...

Castlevania Series 1

Oh, and to keep this on topic...

Xenogears (PS) - Used - Complete - I traded extra copies of Rogue Galaxy and Shenmue II to get this.

And I was right, pika. I do want them, but they are similar to other Mario figs I already have, so I'll pass until I get settled later this year.

Stopped by a Blockbuster, which was having a 2-for-1 sale on used games under $15. Picked up:

Bioshock (360) - CIB, cardboard overbox - $20

All rest are disc only, good condition:

Rogue Galaxy (PS2) - $14.99
Black & Bruised (PS2) - FREE
Sid Meier's Pirates: Live the Life (Xbox) - $6.99
Playboy: The Mansion (Xbox) - FREE
Viewtiful Joe (PS2) - $4.99 -- sucker for extra content FTW!
Evil Dead: Regeneration (Xbox) - FREE

6 games, just under $51. SCHWEET!

My dad has been cleaning out the garage and today he found a box with an NES and a handful of games. My original I sold for an SNES back in '92 and the one purchased a few years back didn't work and is in a cabinet in my room. We have no idea where this one came from. Didn't have a RF Cable and the power supply didn't work. Thankfully, I had replacements and after a few attempts I could got most of the games running.

Came with

Castlevania III Dracula's Curse

Caveman Games (would not work)

Faxanadu (would not work)

Guardian Legend

Megaman 2 (duplicate, would not work)

Metroid (would not work)

Rygar (would not work)

StarTropics (duplicate)

Then about 45 minutes later, he comes back in with a Playstation and a few games all in good shape. Probably from the same source as the NES, but we still have no clue how it got there

Castlevania: Symphony of the Night (Black Label)

Crash Bandicoot

Crash Bandicoot 2

Frogger

Incidentally, Call of Cthulhu is, while complete, in an Xbox 360 case...I don't know why. Anyone have a spare regular Xbox game case in decent shape they'd part with? PM me if you happen to have one.

It can't hurt to open up your console too and give that a quick clean and check the contacts. Just remember to put everything back in the right place.

Those are really easy to aquire from GameStop. If you buy a bunch of stuff and ask for a worthless box they're usually agreeable.

I'll keep that in mind...although I've been pretty tough on a couple of the people that work there (neither of which I saw yesterday...). At any rate, I've got the problem solved for now (gonna loot the lost games from work), but if it happens again, looks like I've got a plan. Thanks!

Today's finds:

Sega Genesis Team Player (the 1st-party multi-tap), fine, boxed with docs, $9.95, R3 According to the instructions, you can use two of these for up to eight players, although I don't know any eight-player games offhand. Maybe Monopoly, Romance of the 3 Kingdoms 2 or 3 or Trivial Pursuit on Sega CD? I remember that Columns III is 5 player...

Capcom Classics Collection Volume 2, PS2, n. mint, complete, $12.59, R?

Suikoden III, PS2, v. fine, complete, $10.49, R2

Baten Kaitos Origins (GC) x 2 NEW 14.99

I am not sure if I am the only one who has had a hard time finding a new copy of this, or even a good condition used copy but I walked into Toys R Us and there were two of them in the bargin bin. I will leave one sealed and "play" the other

Good deal! Everybody is finding all kinds of good stuff at Toys R Us lately...

A local arcade reopened and their selection of used games was vastly better than before they closed.

Clayfighter: Tournament Edition (SNES) - Used - Cart Only - $9.99

Disaster Area (PS2) - Used - Complete - $9.99

Guantlet-Seven Sorrows (PS2) - Used - Complete - $9.99

Manhunt (Xbox) - Used - Complete - $14.99

Stubbs the Zombie in Rebel Without a Cause (Xbox) - NEW - Sealed - $29.99

I had a hard time finding a new one at a price I was willing to pay.

How is that game? I really liked the first one, but never got a chance to finish it. I never get a chance to play JRPGs anymore.

While I haven't gotten to it yet (still need to clear the first one), one of my friends played through it last year. He enjoyed it, but not quite as much as the first one, although the ending was much better (but he hated the last dungeon enough to almost quit the game). They made some changes to the card system. You use a single deck now, but I can't remember exactly how that worked now. I don't think my friend liked it as much as the first game. Though he did speak fondly of the characters as he played through it.

That cover for Hour of Victory is a lot cooler than the NTSC version...I'm betting that's it's only redeeming quality (yet another in jollyroger's giant pile of gaming poo! :P ).

Fess up! Where did you get that cheap copy of Obscure? Tell me or I'll throw you off of a building. Not one high enough to kill you either!
