Just wondering, what do you guys think of this? I know some guys who have no interest in Battlefield Bad Company 2, no matter how much I try to convince them that this game is just as great as Modern Warfare 2, even saying it's better, they still don't care. Yet they always play MW2. Do you think there's a difference between MW2 fans compared to guys like us who enjoy both? I've heard many times before that a lot of MW2 fans are casuals, meaning they play nothing else but Modern Warfare. Like this one guy on my friends' list I know, all he plays is MW and nothing else. I know it's his own preference but it's a little weird that that's all he plays. There's so much variety and so many great games but everytime I see him online, he's playing Modern Warfare. It kind of irritates me, even though it shouldn't. Which is why I'm concerned that BFBC2 won't put up MW2 numbers. It's kind of a shame really. And I'm no slouch when it comes to Modern Warfare since I played the first and second to death. But I admit that Battlefield Bad Company 2 is just as good, if not, even better. So why do most MW2 players show a lack of interest towards BFBC2? I have no idea. But what do you guys think?ASK_Story

My brother sat down and beat MW2's single player campaign. The only other game he has played this gen was Guitar Hero, and the only game he had finished before that was Street Fighter 2 with Ken.

MW2 is as casual as it gets. BF is PC series and is as hardcore as it gets. The demo was download 3.5 million times. Im sure it will break the million mark in sales, but it's no COD or even Halo.

Wow F1 and Argianas... those were some of the worst matches I've ever played in. I'm so glad that we ended with a win. We played well, we were just on bad teams all night long. Arg!

...

I'll agree that MW2 is incredibly casual but B:BC2 is a modern war first person shooter. There's absolutely nothing "hardcore" about that at all, it's just another mainstream game.

And yet, it was still fun! I'm leveling up terribly slow thus far, it doesn't feel like the beta to me. Something is off, maybe they adjusted the damage or recoil, I dont know but I am sucking hard.

I think one issue is that there just isn't enough incentive to go for the objectives for the win. You get, what, 100 exp for winning a round? That's two kills. That's probably why that one dude just used his UAV to murder people - why even bother going for the objective when you can get more exp by just hanging back and using a proxy to fight for you? I do like how KZ2 gave a 1.5 multiplier on your experience if you won, I saw more people going for the objectives in that game than most others.

Ya true. I also dont like how they handle stats, they show your points at the end but why can't I click on a persons name and see an indepth breakdown on those points. I want to know the KD ratio of my friends and all that jazz.

I just had a great game with one of my friends. I was defending on Palaraiso in Rush and had over 4,500 points, probably my best game thus far. I must have RPG'd atleast 5 helicopters and 6 or 7 tanks. Tons o' fun!

The same reason most people hate the two huge maps in MW2, they don't like to actually go 5 steps without shooting someone. Battlefield is more then just high kill death and a lot of people can't handle that. If they can't get their 30 kills per match they freak out. Thats their choice though, I just like to have good options.

i must admit, i never even gave this game a thought until i read some of the reviews and feedback...my brother-in-law also bought this as well so i'd have someone to play with...it also helps that the campaign mode has been praised for the most part...i think i might have to give in... btw how's the trophy potential in BC2? is it possible to get a plat without having to play 24/7 for 6 months or finishing #1 in the leaderboards or anything like that? i'm no trophy whore but i'm on my way to getting my first 100% with dragon age, and wouldn't mind pairing it with another one (assuming the game is that good, of course)...

I never even touched MW2's single player, so likewise with BFBC2, the multiplayer was the selling point for me.

If you love multiplayer and online action it's totally worth it! Same with MW2. But if you're only getting it for single player and don't care about multiplayer, aside from checking out a few matches here and there but not planning to pour hours into it, than I suggest skipping it and getting the older war games for cheaper.

Honestly, I love this game but I would not recommend to anyone who's only looking for a single player experience. Same with Modern Warfare 2. Which is why I cringe and roll my eyes everytime I read a thread or post that hates on MW2 because they thought the single player was a rip-off so therefore the whole game sucks. If they're not buying it for the multiplayer than why waste money at all? :?

it goes both ways though, at least for me it does...the reason i wouldn't give a game like MAG a second look is because it's a multiplayer-only game...thankfully i don't place as much of an emphasis on story in a shooter as i do in other genres, as i actually enjoyed the action in MW2's campaign (which, admittedly, had a lot to do with me playing it on veteran difficulty which took me 11 hours to finish)...from all accounts the single-player in BC2 might even be better, which, combined with the great multiplayer, is tempting for me...

I think it's 200, but still you are right. Most of my points come from kills and bonuses. It's gotten to the point where I'm not really caring if I win the round....thank god for that too, considering some of the players I've had the misfortune to team with. I admit freely that I am far from being a beast with a rifle, but some things I have seen are scary. In that regard if you can't drive a tank or chopper, don't get in the friggin drivers seat!

Speaking of vehicles those ATV's sure come in handy, don't they? Especially for driving to the enemies base and stealing their tanks :lol:

There's really no major incentive to capture objectives in conquest (least none that I've noticed) as I've been in games where we captured all the flags and still ended up losing. I wish they'd make conquest where you have to fill up a bar by capturing flags (more flags quicker fill up) and the first to fill up the bar wins. That or make it so that if one team gets more flags than the other then the other team begins losing spawn tickets

Man I can't express how much I hope we get credit for that last game I played where we all got disconnected, Rag. I got on a Heavy MG near the end and turned into a beast, killed like 12-15 guys in less than a minute easy. Stupid disconnects. I mean the stats still show me as having never resupplied anyone but I'm sure I resupplied a ton of people...

I hope so. We were having some good rounds tonight. I really hit my stride a few rounds after you left. I keep trying to unlock stuff for Assault and Recon, but I naturally gravitate towards the Medic and the Engineer. I played Medic mostly tonight and just racked up the kills. That M60 with the 4X scope is so great. I can snipe with that gun.

They really need to fix the online issueswith this game. I realize every online game has problems starting out, but this has been particularly bad. I've had stats disappear entirely from games I completed...no disconnect. Just never got the xp, the unlocks, or the pins. I remember one in particular - a Conquest match I had earned 17 pins (AT mines ftw!)and over 2 levels of Engineering unlocks...gone. Doesn't take a huge amount of time to get it back, but it still sucks.

Also, why are there so few medics? Don't people realize how reviving helps the team out from a resources, not to mention tactical, standpoint? Much more so than hiding in the bushes taking pot shots at people. At least spot for your team if you're gonna spend the whole match worming through the foliage. They did call the class "recon" for a reason.

killeer2007

The other team does slowly lose spawn tickets for a majority flag control. I can tell you this because in one of the quirkier server issues, I found myself completely alone in a Conquest game. I had all three flags and the other team's ticker was going down periodically. But I agree that it needs to be a more pronounced advantage.

No kidding. I almost exclusively play as a Medic unless someone on my squad already is. I don't understand why so many people are addicted to the Recon cIass. I can make good use of a sniper rifle, but I also play aggressively with it, and use it to take guys out as I approach a base before switching to my pistol and knife for close quarters stuff. I don't understand people who hang back and snipe when they are on the attacking team. It is as though they don't realize that the other team has infinite lives.

When I'm on the attack, the only thing I'm worried about is blowing up those stations, my KDR doesn't matter at all. I'll bring buildings down on myself if I know I can the destroy the station and kill everyone else in it.:P

edit: I suicide pretty regularly on defense too! I love loading an abandoned ATV up with C4 and suicide bombing tanks as they come in. Sometimes I bail in time, other times I don't. As long as I blew someone else up, I don't care.

I just had an EPIC match.

We were struggling throughout the whole match but after a few joined our team we started picking it up. Eventually we made it to the last base in Rush (beta map) and then stalled. I think the ticker was at 50 but it went all the way down to 10. I took that water shortcut and hid behind the crate only to watch the ticker go down to 3. My squad rushed up the stairs, took out the defense and charged the bomb. I turned around and took out the guys coming up the stairs, but 2 of my teammates on the other side were killed. The ticker reached 1 and the bomb was so close to detonating when 5 enemies were charging at us. They starting firing at us but it was too late, we had just won.

The ticker read 1.

I joined that round right when the 'YOUR TEAM WON' screen came up, and then you quit and weren't in the next round.:(

My friends and I are playing some Squad Deathmatch tonight. It is intense. I just had an amazing round as a Medic keeping the rest of my team alive, along with Alidar. Squad Deathmatch is like a whole different game. It is very fun. I still prefer Rush over every other mode, but this is fun too;.

Damn, I didn't know. Hopefully we will get some games in tomorrow, I want to try squad deathmatch.

One thing that I am noticing is that the beta/demo maps are the best of the bunch. I hate when devs put the best maps in demos. Ah well.

Yup, the crazy pins I got in that last match the other night weren't credited to me. Not only that, but the game totally "forgot" that I ever played any single player, so I had to start all over. On that note, I don't like the story changes from BC1. In BC1 the story was absurd, the characters silly, it didn't take itself seriously, and I loved it for that. Now they're trying to seriousify everything and it's leaving a bad taste in my mouth, and far too "me too". I want to get road kills in a golf cart, fly around a golden pimped out hind with hot tubs and a large collection of 80's CDs, and generally blow stuff up to steal some bars of gold. That was great. It was the exact opposite of MW2, which also had an absurd story but tried to act real serious, and the end result ranked high on the Unintentional Comedy Scale.

Squad DM was interesting, though I still do enjoy the other modes a bit better. It can be annoying to blow up the one tank in that mode since it's usually full of people on machine guns and never stops moving. I try the tank mine route but in the maps we were playing they just stayed in the water and off the paths, so it would be like a needle in the haystack.

I ironically got a gold trophy for finishing an unlock tree - vehicles don't require that much exp and you can play them with any class. That plus stationary heavy MG's count as vehicles for whatever reason. Speaking of trophies I think the 10 resupplies, heals, etc. one is bugged since I easily got 10 of each, but according to my resupply kit stats I did none (but according to pins and badges I got about 80).

I'm starting to like tank mines. Especially right at the start of a rush defense - I spawned, put three up, then seconds later an ATV guy zipping down the road hit them and the wreckage went flying. I didn't even see it come down it flew that far.

Is it just me or is the XMB the best Assault weapon? I virtually never see anyone use any other weapon when playing Assault, even people whom I am sure have far more weapons available to them.

AT mines are so underused...probably because people have to choose between them or a launcher. But they kill way faster and don't give the guys inside a chance to bail. It is a little more mindwork than a rocket tube, but a diligent AT miner can almost neutralize vehicle usage by the other team. And they're just plain fun. Twice I've had double vehicle kills (not an official stat, but it should be). Both times, a tank and APC crossing my string of mines at the same time...fireworks...and the HUD takes six seconds or so to tally all the points. One time i got about 600 points, the other 800.

Sometimes you need to be tricky...use a mine to blow a hole in the road, then drop a couple mines in said hole so the driver can't see them. Hide them in water. At the top of hills and ramps or behind bumps in the road. Even behind wrecked vehicles, because so many people can't resist the urge to ram them out of the way instead of going around them. But a lot of times you get idiot drivers that will literally hit the same mine patch over and over even if you plant them in the open. I've already got my mine insignia and I'm probably 10 vehicles away from the one dealing with vehicle destruction.

I remember one Panama Canal conquest match...every minute or so I was getting another mine kill, so I finished the game with 35 kills and a ton of points. The next round, I'm seeing the other squad toss mines everywhere. They got the point: AT mines > rocket launchers. For now. Eventually people are gonna get wise and start looking for them, but right now, it's open season.

Oh man that one game where me and Rag's friend went rampaging in a tank was great. I literally got about 8 repair pins in that one match alone.

argianas

We had some fun ones tonight. I was sharing with a friend of a friend, so I was only in every other round, but it was pretty great. Everyone was over for my birthday. My best friend's wife made some awesome sugar cookies, and they were Battlefield themed:

All the sniper ones had been eaten by the time this picture was taken.:P

I'm starting to like tank mines. Especially right at the start of a rush defense - I spawned, put three up, then seconds later an ATV guy zipping down the road hit them and the wreckage went flying. I didn't even see it come down it flew that far.

Ish_basic

Another use I've found are anti-personnel. If someone steps on a mine they set it off just like any vehicle. The mines are, oh, about the size of a staircase. In a squad DM match in the snow map, my squad would go to the second floor to pick people off running below, and I'd toss a mine on the staircase to prevent people from sneaking up behind us. Didn't get a kill with it (because it's obvious and the people we were playing with were high enough level to know that AT mines don't just destroy tanks), but all they could do was stand at the bottom of the stairs and hope one of us carelessly moved into their sights.

I've got about 26 hours into the game now. I've unlocked all the weapons and items for the Medic, and I'm about to do the same for the Engineer. I'm about halfway with the Assault and Recon cIasses. Squad Deathmatch is phenomenal, especially on Arica Harbor. My friend and I beat three other squads by ourselves the other day. It was sweet. He was sniping and spotting for me, and I was moving from building to building hunting other snipers. It was awesome.

Sorry I dropped out a little early last night Rag, but man I was getting frustrated. Just too many level 25+'s slaughtering me left and right, needed to do something else to calm me down. The squad of four that would spawn camp was just annoying - I'd literally die within a second of spawning when I couldn't spawn on you guys. Tonight will probably be a lot better, though.

Anyway I did finish up the single player last night. Man the single player trophies are pretty easy. I think I preferred BC1's single player, honestly. The story was stupid and crazy, and it didn't take itself seriously, which was great. Much like MW2, the story is still stupid, but it tries to take itself seriously, which falls flat a bit. I mean if you want to give me a dumb and nonsensical story, then let me do a four-man invasion of a neutral country to steal gold while road killing guys in a golf cart. I did like the two digs at MW2 in the game though. I do find it odd that BC2 didn't address the setup at the end of BC1, and even made another setup for another BC game.

I just realized BFBC's environments were more destructible than in 2. You could plow right through the corner of a building with a tank, I dont think thats possible in this. I guess its close but it definitely feels different in the way the buildings are damaged. Oh and I miss that farm map from the first one, they should definitely bring that over for the sequel (free plz)

I've got one more gun to unlock for the Assault cIass and then I'll have everything. I'll be playing a lot of FFXIII, but I plan on getting some BC2 in every night, so if you see me online, send me an invite, and I'll hop on and play.

Man what are you like level 46 or something? I still haven't even gotten three weapons unlocked in any class (but I think I'm closing in on all four of them nearly evenly). Anyway I'm off on vacation until Sunday night so I'll be taking a forced break for a little while, but will definitely be open to invites once I get back. I'll likely be playing a lot of GoW3 and FF13 when I get back but will jump into games of BC2 as usual.

Have a fun vacation! I just hit level 23 tonight. I've got about 1200 points to go before I get that M16. It will be great to play the game without the compulsion to unlock everything. I'll probably stick to Medic, with a little bit of Engineer and Recon thrown in.

This is a little outdated, like I said, I just hit level 23.

Tried to get back in MW2. It feels really boring now. Bad Company 2 is just so much more fun to play and challenging.

Man, the amount of points it takes for each rank really start to get nuts. I've got to earn 100,000 points to hit level 28. Madness! I'm right around 3,800 on the PSN leaderboards, and I think FFXIII is going to make me slip a little bit. I'm still loving the crap out of this game. Right now, my only complaint is that some of the rush maps don't seem properly balanced. Isla Innocentes in particular seems to be too hard on the attackers. I can take the first two sections in no time, but getting over that hill and down into their last base is near impossible against almost any team. I think they could fix it by adding a Blackhawk and an ATV to the last attacker spawnpoint.

The 360 version is on sale for $40 today on Amazon, the PS3 version is at $50. Either way, that is a good deal.

It looks like we are getting some free and some paid DLC at the end of the month. The free DLC will be a conquest version of Arica Harbor, and Laguna Presa is getting a rush mode.:D Should be awesome. I'm especially looking forward to the conquest version of Arica, as that is my favorite map. The paid DLC is just some character skins and camo guns. It doesn't seem too terribly interesting. The thing that excites me is that DICE seems to understand that paid map packs only segment the community.

The team at DICE is "definitely" committed to supporting Bad Company 2 for what they describe as a long time. This naturally led to a conversation about the pros and cons of doing downloadable map packs at a price, versus the Bad Company 2 VIP program where those that purchase the game new automatically get certain pieces of downloadable content for free. "I would dare say we have a lot of opinion based on the fact that we've been making multiplayer games for so long. Already in 1942 and Battlefield 2 we had a lot of different booster packs. One of the very clear lessons that we learned from that is that the more booster packs people have to pay for, all you do is actually segment the community. If you don't have this map, you can't play with me. If I don't have that map, I can't play with you. Team play is very important for us... this is something that we felt that it is probably better to give away a lot of the maps for free, and then perhaps we can have some more paid DLC in the future that is not focusing on that."

IGN

That makes me happy.

In the first Bad Company I absolutely loved Conquest mode and barely played gold rush. Now in this one I dont play Conquest as much and love Rush mode. Guess Im starting to miss the maps from the first one.

No, you can still do that stuff in this game. It's physic are a bit more rigid/real is all. You just need to be going a certain speedis all. The T-90s and the Abrams can still do it at crawling speed.

Definitely. You've got to get a good run at a building to plow into it. I've been having so much fun on defense lately with the anti-tank mines. You can take vehicles out of the equation in rush mode if you know where to place them.

Hey Rags, or anyone else who plays this, does it seem like there are less and less people playing in matches lately? It's worst at night. Not many people are playing after midnight for some reason.

Maybe I'm just playing at the wrong time of the day but it used to be always full. I wonder if EA put too many servers whereas before they didn't have enough.

The game sold 2.3 million so I'm sure it'll have long legs. I'm playing the 360 by the way. How's the matches on the PS3?

I haven't had that issue really. The Rush and Conquest playlists are always full. Squad Deathmatch can get a little thin sometimes. It seems like a lot of the time there will just be two full squads and then some straggler squads. I saw it sometimes in the demo where you'd be in a round where there was just one guy on the other team, or you'd have two teams of 5 or 6 playing a round of Rush, but I haven't had that problem in the full version.
