Hello, I was wondering if anyone knew any good Real Time Strategy games which are cross-platform compatible; specifically Mac to PC Multiplay. I would like to be able to play an RTS game with my friend who owns a mac but it seems that no RTS games support multiplayer cross-platform in this regard. Every one I have looked into says it doesn't support it. Anyone have any suggestions for me? Thank you. ______________The_Viceroy_

You might have better luck getting your friend to install Windows on his Mac. I don't know if there are any games that support cross platform play. The first moderator referred you to this thread, and it wasn't a bad idea, but you might have more luck on the PC & Mac Games Forum. Most of the GGD folks seem to be more console centric gamers.

Hey guys!

What I'm looking for is a fun level grinding game. Something that I can grind levels out for 10-30 minuites when I get some free time on lunch at work. But when I do have time to sit down, I can keep playing for longer bursts of time.

Systems I'm looking for, which said game is for:
XBOX 360
NINTENDO DS

The only two titles that jump out at me right now are:
Final Fantasy 3 (DS)
Final Fantasy 4 (DS)

Thanks for any help what-so-ever.

Hey guys, should I get L4D1 or L4D2? I've heard the second one is better, but I'd rather not start a series half-way if the stories are connected. In other words, is it necessary to play the first one to understand the story of the second one? What do you recommend? I do have Xbox Live.

I am thinking of buying a new game or two for Christmas and need some recommendations from people who have played a lot. I am a bit of a dinosaur -- I like TURN-BASED STRATEGY games. I am not into shooters or real-time games, and I don't play online against humans. Games that I have liked in the past include Civilization II-IV, Panzer General II, and Civil War General 2. I am easily amused and don't need amazing eye-splitting graphics. I like large campaign games that deal with entire conflicts, rather than just one battle. I know turn-based games are not too popular now, so they are pretty hard to find. I will have to buy something online, and of course, you can't rely on a product's advertising to tell you how good a game really is. So I need some of your opinions. Of course, I am using a PC with Vista right now, so good ol games like Panzer General II don't even work anymore (or I'd still be playing it). I am really looking for something in the Civil War or Napoleon genres, but a good WWII campaign game is always fun too. Greek/Roman era games and empire building games (Civilization) aren't bad either. My ideal game would be a Panzer General II-like system based on Napoleon's campaigns. If anyone has any suggestions on games that are currently available that will work on current PCs, please let me hear your opinions. Thanks!

Anyone know of a good RPG for PSP with a great story and great anime cutscenes? I'm going on a long road trip and I want to start one.

Sharky, have you played any of the Total War games? I haven't played the new one yet; it's set in the 18th century. However, they are releasing a Napoleon: Total War in 2010, I think February. They also have a Roman one, which I didn't care for all that much, but I heart Medieval and Medieval II - only the latter of which is still playable on current operating systems, sadly. (And by "current" I mean XP, dunno about newer ones.)

What game would closely relate to the concept ofCreate, Conquer, Defend. I enjoy the Castle age games, historical type settings. But I haven't found a game where I can personalize a King or Leader, develop a kingdom or territory and be able to conquer or rule over other areas within the game as well as defend my own territory... Any suggestions? Preferrably for PS3 or PC.

No, I haven't played them. But that is the one I came across most when I was looking myself. It looks cool, but you can never tell about a game from the company's website. Does your post mean that you payed it? Did you like it? My one concern was the mix of turn-based and real-time play. Can you turn off the real-time battles? Or at least avoid them if you want?

I actually must recommend AGAINST Empire... :? The AI in the land battles is horrifically bad- gravely crippling any real challenge and enjoyment/sense of acomplishment the single player campaign can offer (Unless- your brand new to the series- though even then, you'll probably find the normal and hard AIs to be abominably disorganized).

If you want to get into the Total War games- you should definitely go with Rome: Total War instead- it's the best entry in the series so far IMO.

You don't like real-time battles though or want to avoid them though? You're basically out of luck in Total War then- they're the series' bread and butter.

You CAN autocalculate them- but you won't get too far in a campaign that way... Total War has always been all about the real-time battles, so playing them might as well be a requirement. Unless you absolutely detest real-time strategy gameplay in general though- Total War's battles are generally quite enjoyable, control well, and aren't too hard to learn.

-----

Anyway- I actually am seeking recommendations myself really. :) I've been given a $25 Best-buy gift card... So I've been looking on their website for a game I could get from them.

I've noticed games like:

  1. Burnout: Paradise
  2. Lord of the Rings: Conquest

I'm currently leaning towards LotR: Conquest- but I might already be getting it for Christmas... :| I'm also not positive if Burnout: Paradise would be a good pick (though I've heard nothing but good stuff about it).

How much content does Burnout: Paradise really have (Is the variety of events/modes limited at all?)?

It must be really good given that IGN gave it an award on the PC this year- even though it's a 2008 game... :?

Depends. If you are looking for a decent multiplayer experience but very little singleplayer, go for Left 4 Dead.

If you want a bloody good singleplayer but NO multiplayer, Batman AA is for the win. Personally, I enjoyed Batman more.

I'm looking for a game (preferably newer/good graphics) where you play the role of a murderer. I don't mean just killing things like every other game, but something similar to GTA, except more on the killing aspect. Like you can torture your victims or whatnot. And realistic as well, like not a fantasy setting. Are there any games you can recommend like that?

I don't think I'll try this "you need help" game, though I'm looking for one where you play as a human.

Also, are there any games where you play as a werewolf?

Sharky, yes, I have played several Total War games - Medieval Total War, Medieval Total War II, and Rome: Total War. I didn't care for Rome much, but I LOVE LOVE LOVE the Medieval games. In fact they got me into Medieval European history. In the first Medieval Total War, a civil war comes about in England in the early 12th century at the same time as the cousin's (Stephen v. Madeline's) war. In Medieval Total War II, a Mongolian invasion happens in the 14th century. The games do their best to stay faithful to history. You can have Crusades or Jihads, Assassins, Spies, Marital alliances, etc. You have to build up trade in both games - the first concentrates on naval routes, and the second concentrates on merchants dealing in rare resources like ivory and gold. Yes, you can turn off the real-time battles (meaning that you have the option to skip them or not). I never cared too much for playing them myself. The turn-based part of the game is more than enough for me. I only played real time battles if I was confident in my ability to win a battle that I would probably lose in AI. Regardless, that is not the point of the game and is totally optional.

So a good friend of mine has been in Indonesia for about 3 years working with the Red Cross and he just returned to the states a week ago. Him and I both grew up playing tons of video games so when he left for Indonesia one of the biggest things he missed were his games. Every time we would get to talk it was always "hey what are you playing now?" or "so what are some of the good games out right now?". Now that he is home he wants to start building up his game collection again. Only problem though is that he needs to know of some great games to get and he needs more than just my opinion. So I am asking you fellow gamers to help by doing the following: Please put together a list of the best 5 games from 2006-Now (in your opinion). The games can be for any system EXCEPT the DS and PSP because neither me, my friend, nor our other 2 room mates own those two systems. Thanks!

Recently, I've been trying to decide which games I'm going to get before the year ends, but I've had so much trouble deciding I need some pointers before deciding which to get. My first choice is getting either two or three of these PSN games, depending on my budget, which most likely will be $55:

.Bionic Commando Rearmed

.Braid

.Flower

.The Last Guy

.Pixeljunk Shooter

.Ratchet & Clank: Quest For booty

.Siren: Blood Curse

.Wipeout HD w/ Fury

My other choice is waiting till sunday and getting either Demons Souls on PS3 or Little King's Story on Wii.

I would want to get these games until february next year, because that's when I'll start focusing on buying 2010 games only, starting with Heavy Rain, which means I'll have to leave some of these games behind. Thanks everyone in advance.

I am looking for a game that everything is customizable. I mean like e-v-e-r-y-t-h-i-n-g. Either a modern or medieval game. Customizable weapons, clothes, armor, whatever. Also good game overall and multi-player. Thanks.

Oh ya, for 360

I'm in need of a new RPG game to play. I own a PS2, PS3, 360, and PC, so console doesn't matter, nor does the age of the game for that matter. My favorite RPG's that I've played before are - KOTOR 1 + 2, Mass Effect, Oblivion, the Fallout Series, and the Shin Megami series. Also, thanks to everyone in advance.

Have you considered Dragon Age:Origins or Demon's Souls? Both get very good reviews and should keep you playing for a long time. Also, if you don't mind older games you should get The Elder Scrolls II: Daggerfall, its been made free to download on the Elder Scrolls website.

Hey guys. Back in August I bought God of War for ps2. I played it once and never touched it again. I kinda want to return it for something else but I don't know what. I have a ps2 and a gamecube. I don't have too many games right now, the only ones I actually play are Super Smash bros, burnout 3, and GTA San Andreas

Also I'm really really really bad at video games, and only really play when im on break from school, so something thats easy to just pick up and play would be good, also something that could possibly be multiplayer would be good too.

Just recommend me whatever; I'm not a big fan of violent games like shooters or anything, unless theyre fantasy shooters like ratchet and clank or something.

thanks guys.

For the PS2, I'd check out Okami. It's not a hard game, it's complete fantasy (it's based onJapanese mythology), but it's single-player. If you need a comparsion on how it plays, it's similar to Zelda.

1) Which one is more fun?

2) How long is Dirt 2's single player career mode?

3) How long is Shifts single player career mode? (I mean are they 70+ hours to complete like forza?)

Looking for an old school PC shooter (2000-2004. Old PC specs) with lots of sci-fi/cinematic elements. Something in the line of Aliens vs. Predator 2 or Half-Life 2 or System Shock 2. You guys get the picture; Cinematic, Sci-Fi, etc.

Okay, I've been looking at the Capcom greatest Hits package on 360 that comes with DMC4, Dead Rising and Lost Planet Extreme Colonies Edition. Played the demo for DMC4, and thought it was decent. Played Lost Planets demo way back when and thought it was a decent shooter Hated Dead Rising, but was only able to get about 2 hours in before hitting an impasse in the game that made it way too frustrating to continue. I could get all three of those, but is it really a great deal? I'm willing to give these games a second chance since I played them all just a little bit, but I could buy Dead Space (Loved it on PS3, and want to give it another playthrough badly) and Bully on 360 (Loved it, and want to play it again, but my 360 scratched the disc into oblvion) So, is the Capcom pack worth it, or should I go with the latter combo of games?

EDIT: Or a game like Alien Vs predator would be cool toNickytiger123

Which of these are better? Final Fantasy Origins or Final Fantasy I & II Dawn of Souls? I'm like the only person in the world who hasn't played FF1 and FF2 yet and I don't know all of the differences between these two versions. I know Dawn of Souls has a few extra dundgeons but that's all I know. Can somebody tell me the main differences please?

Hi all, I'm looking for some PC Game Recommendations. I mostly like non-shooter games like Sims/Endless Ocean, but I also love open-world style games like Morrowind in particular. Any suggestions? Thanks!

First post here, looking for PS3 or even PS2 games that have co-op mode in campaign. I want to play with my missus because it's a lot more fun than just plain old singleplayer. Looking for first person shooters in particular, played resident evil 5 and going to get 4. Can anyone recommend some other FPS co-op games or similar?? Price is not a problem.

Thanks!

The first Resistance game had split screen co-op and was pretty good. I didn't care for the sequel at all, but I thought the orginal was pretty good. Borderlands also has co-op, both offline and online and is a pretty fun game.

What platforms do you own? I've heard Torchlight is a good PC RPG. If you have a PS3, you should check out Demon's Souls. It is brutally hard, but it is one of the best action RPGs that I've ever played.

quake 4 was a fantastic sci fi shooter. if you've never played it i'd check that out but i'm not sure if it quite falls under the specs you're looking for. red faction 1 and 2 are pretty decent and definitely not too demanding system wise. i'd also very highly recommend freelancer. its a spaceship shooter but its got tons of action and looks pretty damn good even on an older system. theres a demo for download, you should check it out!

I don't think there is a demo, but I can't say for sure. If you liked Oblivion, I bet you'd love Fallout 3. It is made by the same team and is one of my favorite games from the last few years.
