Before the rest of people come here and try to spin my wins tonight into some sort of 'car-bumping-cheater' bs, i just wanted to say, "OWNED!"

S0lidSnake

Your proper driving etiquette is in dire need of improvement ,good sir, because your car handling was largely responsible for the vast number of victories you unfairly acquired this evening.

Good races tonight. Lot's of fun playing with you guys. Let's get some more folks from around here next time. The more the merrier.

lol regarding the Nascarrace, there was nothing unfair about F1 spinning out of control for no reason on the first turn, me swerving to avoid it, barely hitting you causing you to lose control and cause that massive 4 car pile up. I saw it all in my rear view mirror and couldnt stop laughing.

rag, giving up right away and coming after me hitting mehead on was also hilarious. i never thought rag would be the one driving the other way considering he's a righteous mod and all.

I dont know why but i laughed a lot yesterday, glad we werent using mics because sometimes the crashes were too funny. how you guys manage to spin out going on a straight stretch is beyond me.

Ya I was dying of laughter all night. I spun out because that was my first Nascar race and I like to play with 90% of assists off, its hard to keep up when you guys have that on too. Its still fun though. Actually we did a lot of events that were my first like the Rally car/track. I swear its harder than Richard Burns Rally. In Career mode Im just starting to get into the faster cars so I was really rusty yesterday.

Next time lets do Headsets!! This isn't 1999.

i dont know about headsets, like i said i was laughing too much and i dont want to be laughing out loudin everyone's ear all night. :P

i've done a lot of those Nascar races so i had an unfair advantage i suppose. i did have the traction down to 2 or 3 for most races after the first few. also, remmeber that long rally race which was 2 laps long thanks to rag? well i had just got done playing the very same track when rag messaged me to join his lounge, so basically knew all the turns and how to navigate it. watching Dez try to power slide each turn was funny though. :P Dez, in rally events in GT5 you are supposed to slow down to a crawl and THEN turn your car. turning your car while sliding will keep your acceleration down anyway.

About Rally, I think its best to play it with traction off for that reason, you need inertia to navigate the corners. I haven't had enough time to form an opinion but it didn't feel realistic at all in GT5. Rally has always been PDs weakness imo so I had no hopes going in but so far it doesn't seem that great. I played a game called Richard Burns Rally on PC and its notoriously hard but taking the turns using logic actually work, its just hard to pull of multiples chicanes in succession. It didn't feel possible in GT5.

if you read my pros/cons post in the last page, you will see that i am deeply disappointed at the way the rally cars handle in this game. what dez was doing would work in any pure rallly game, but in GT5 it simply doesn't work. it is completely unrealistic.

the sad thing is that Evolution studios who did the WRC games on the PS2 could;ve easily helped PD out with the rally races. THere are only 4 rally events in the game anyway. If the prince of persia team can help the Assassin;s Creed team with the Tomb sections then why cant Evolution studios lend PD their fantastic rally driving physics. Seems like a waste of the WRC license to me.

if you are into rally racing, i'd highly recommend the very first WRC game. The other two were never released in NA (f*** you SCEA) but the driving and tracks alone are worth playing. Easily s***s all over the Dirt games.

Some of those cars we used are way too powerful. Combined with the reduced assists as the games came along, it made for quite a challenge just to keep everything under control. I swear, one race I had to lightly press on the gas just to keep control because the moment I pressed hard on the button, the tires would spin and there I would go doing doughnuts. I have to remember to use a light touch.

Rally races are really fun, but the only games I've played with those kind of races would be other arcade games with simplified drifting and I brought that control mentality for those races, and well... you saw the results in your rearview. I totally dig the rally stuff, but I just wish there was a little bit less dirt getting kicked up in my screen. I had to slow down so I wouldn't blindly crash into a wall. Ah well.

I was really starting to stink it up towards the end, with all of my wonderous +20 second finishes. I am still really happy with that first race of the day with that nice photo finish win. Hehe, sorry F1! I gotta get me a Skyline, though. I love how that car handles.

The McClaren race on Special Stage Route 5 was weird last night. I really doubt that car spins out every time you touch the gas in real life.

Ya man, I've played pretty much every rally game ever, including Colin Mcrae, they are pretty much all arcady though, with the exception being RBR (seriously youtube it and see how crazy it is). As for drifting in turns, you guys would have to put traction control on zero otherwise you are not going to have power being sent to the wheels so its hard to judge otherwise. I'll give it a go when I get there in special stage and see if I can get to grips with it.

I wouldn't be surprised tbh :P. We should be doing slower paced races though, they are actually fun if you choose the right track (tighter, shorter straights).

I finally got a Bronze in the Intermediate Top Gear Event. I was starting to see how I'd get a Silver, but I don't think Gold is possible for me.

Make sure Skid recovery is on. I got gold after about 10 tries or so after turning it on.

I just completed that challenge a little earlier today, after I completely forgot about changing the settings. So much rage... ef that challenge, it brought out the worst in me. I never want to do that again.

I swore so much the first time I tried it. I'm having great luck in the Intermediate Snow Rally. I've passed the car in front of me a few times. It makes me wonder if the AI drivers just aren't good in the snow.

Lol. WTF?

spent an hour and a half trying to gold license B-6. I must have repeated it over 100 times. the target time was 14.600 seconds, i got 14.611 three times before i rage quit.

B-10 is impossible too. if anyone has gotten Golds in all Bs and As, can you please share you ghosts if you can. Thanks.

BTW, I now have a Mini and a light weight car for the Beginner event. If anyone wants them, they are yours. I need a Mazda Roadster and a British car for the Professional and Amateur events, so if someone would be kind enough to trade, i'd realy appreciate it. :)

I also have a pretty badass rally car that should allow you to smoke through the intermediate events. rag, the snow levels are broken. I easily beat all three of them with a 3 minute lead each time. Got almost 200K for finishing the advanced event last night, had a 2.5 minute lead. So yeah, everyone beat them first for easy cash before they fix it.

P.S it sucks that the game has over 20 rally cars but since they dont show up in the used car shop, your only option is to buy the 850K ones from the dealerships. well f*** that s***! if i didnt get my rally car as a gift, i would not be able to get golds in any of the intermediate challenges. (well apart from the snow one of course. lol)

I refuse to gold any of the licenses because the only reason I'd do that is to earn the platinum trophy - but you also need gold on all events.

And god help me if I actually attempt both of the 24 hour races. I'm not racing 48 straight hours for a trophy. :P

edit - plus, I just suck too much and lack the patience for golding those things. Same with most of the events (rally and karts have been easy so far though).

I'm pretty sure I still have my Roadster. If we can trade for the Mini, that would be great. I'm also still looking for an old Euro car and an old Japanese car that doesn't suck. Both Jpn cars I had that fit the classic description barely push 50hp and 100mph even after some tuning. There're only two more race sections I need to complete the beginner tier.

I used the old E-type Jaguar for the older events. I haven't done the professional one yet so I'm not sure if it's capable of winning that, but if it is I'll finish that race off and gift it over. I've seen it pop up on my used car dealer three or four times, though, which is weird. Old Japanese car, though, I haven't seen a single one yet that doesn't suck.

the lam i gave you yesterday should be good for an old european car. :P if rag hadn't misplaced my awesome 60s japanese car, you wouldnt have any problems finding one. i've been getting a lot of really s***ty cars as gifts for Golds so let me dig through them and see if i can find something for you.

Sure thing.

I just started racing B-Spec. Gave my driver the best car for each event, at least a 100hp advantage and he is doing pretty good for a guy with abosultely no cornering skills. I mean how can he become a professional driver with no cornering skills whatsoever, i understand you have to upgrade those but seriously. lol

So far i havent had to micromanage, nor do i want to. i am just letting him do his thing, he gets really 'hot' when there are cars around him in the beginning but thanks to my collection of high power cars, he pulls away real quick and drives the rest of the track with a cool head. :)

It kinda sucks that the implementation isnt like managing Assassins in AC: Brotherhood. In brotherhood, you slowly upgrade your assassins by sending them off on missions. Every assassin has a success ratio depending on the mission difficulty and the assassin's level progress. And best of all, it happens in the background while you play the actual game. here you are just watching some guy play the game for you. You should be able to tell them to either drive aggressively or maintain pace at the beginning of the race instead of watching the whole damn thing.

I did just get a new car for getting Golds in my first event so i supose thats not so bad.

God damn. I blew through the first two beginner rally stages (dirt and snow) with my relatively untuned Lancia Delta. It's about 40hp below the limit but I figured the four wheel drive would make up for that. It did - I won each segment by about three seconds. Then I entered the tarmac rally and promptly ended up six seconds in the rear and almost 20 seconds behind after the whole thing. I understand that some of that is due to the cars, but man the AI must suck on dirt and snow. Currently I'm letting my b-spec driver race while I'm online - he's doing the hot hatch championship in a heavily upgraded 2010 Camero, as it's pretty much the only thing he can win with. And he races better when I give him no instruction at all. I just really wish you could boost the speed, as actually sitting there babysitting a driver is a pretty lame thing to do - I can't see myself doing anything but entering him in an overpowered car and letting him drive in the other room while I do something else. It's a pretty weird inclusion to the game, to be honest. I'm only doing the races for money and because I'm curious about the prize cars. And I think I hate myself just a little bit.

Also, as ugly as many parts of the game look, the replays are awesome. They may not always have the highest graphical fidelity in terms of trackside detail, but the way the camera moves and the sense of cars gripping the road is something that never looked quite right in Forza. Even back with GT4 I enjoyed watching my replays more than I did the actual racing, where in Forza it was the opposite. I couldn't watch its replays because they looked too gamey. B-spec is kind of nice because you get all of the replay stuff. And weirdly, you actually get MORE camera angle options than you do when you're watching your own replay, which is bizarre. I also kind of miss the music-tuned replay camera from GT4 where filters and effects were applied in some shots.

lol that hot hatch event is broken. i had my guy drive my 850hp lambo at first then i realized i am level 20 and he might damage it. But yes, you are correct. if you give him a over powered car, he will win. If he doesn't have that advantage, nothing you do or say will have any effect on him. I entered him in that light weight event and the guy was in 5th place from start to finish, he couldnt even overtake the guy infront of him. it definitely is a very inclusion and makes no sense to be honest. the only reason why i am playing it because i like getting new cars as gifts.

P.S I just got a pretty badass rally car (standard) for finishing the Gallardo challenge. i was easily some 12 seconds ahead in the Advanced gravel race after the first 6 stages but the last two stages were like 6 minutes long with some insane turns. i ended up finishing fourth after posting +9 and +16 in the last two stages. That's the last time i play a rally event....... 1 hour wasted.

Damage impressions:

No impressions really, since damage is virtually unnoticable. Just some bumper damage, and slight scratches, thats about it. The rally cars (premium only) seem to have a lot more damage but since they are worth 850K and are only used in handful of events, i see no point in buying them. I had read reviewers talking about how fixing damage on cars is way too expensive, but i ahvent even had to fix anything. My gallardo got pretty messed up in each of my 4 tries to get gold but upon entering the race again, it was as good as new. I dont get why damage is even included tbh, i was still able to bump my way through the races. really baffling what PD was doing for these 6 years.

Anyway, after saving up a lot of cash, i decided to buy the cars for the British event, the French event, and the Gallardo race. I was able to finish them easily so if anyone wants them, i have no use for them anymore. Should save you close to 500K i ended up spending on those cars.

Yeesh, I let my b-spec driver race the 2010 AE86 concept (286hp) and he lost to a bloody CR-X.

edit - I really **bleep**ing hate how the license completion box says you've completed the license, but the voiceover insultingly adds a "You have EFFECTIVELY passed your X license." Yeah, so I didn't get all golds, so what?

The more i play the game, the more stuff i find wrong with it. Some of this stuff is just not that polished. i wouldnt say this game feels rushed, but it was definitely rushed by Sony in order to meet the holiday season launch. I mean the game has zero grinding at the beginning of the game, but now after hitting level 20, it seems like all the cars i need are a million to 20 million credits. that means a whole lot of grinding.

The biggest complaint i have is with the rally races. they can be a lot of fun, especially the fact that they are never the same, but they only have like 2 timer updates in every stage, so basically for half the race you have no clue how well you are doing. The sebastian rally challenges have NONE! So you can practically go the entire race thinking you are making great time and agonizingly end up 2 seconds short. Every rally game I've ever played, and i've played practically all of them, regularly updates you with times so you know whether you are behind or ahead.

My biggest complaint (other than general design issues and load times) is that a lot of the cars are obscenely overpriced and the races generate little to no cash. So you have to grind, grind, grind, grind in order to get enough money to buy even the most modest of cars. (I'm only level 15 so far, maybe it gets worse)

I didnt have any problems buying cars up until now (level 20), and even now i have over a million credits in the bank. I haven't had to repeat a single race i got golds in, and haven't sold any cars. Plus, I practically spend 50K-150K just tuning the s**** out of almost all of my cars. Have you been doing the special events? Those generate a lot of cash, specially on the intermediate and advanced levels where you can get 150K-200K for getting a Gold in a single event. I am mainly talking about the 'race' cars that are priced at 2-5 million, and i think i will need them to compete in the some of the expert events and all of the races in the last difficulty. The last race in Professional is really tough too, even with my lambo, def need a race car for that.

Glad to see that Nascars only cost 500K. I wouldve been pissed if they were also priced at a ridicuously high 4 million credits or something.

I've done a couple of the special events, but not all that many. I guess I should if they give out that much money. I just finished off my iA license, although I have no idea why I even bothered as I don't find any of the licenses tests fun and the truck I won isn't particularly competitive for the race I wanted it for. Oh well.

if you get a gold in a special event, you automatically get the cash for Brone and Silver too. The sebastian rally race gives you 89K just for Gold, and another 60K and 40K for Silver and Bronze. So if you get lucky and win gold, you are good for almost 200K for a 5 minute race.

I realized the futility of my attempt to try and gold the licenses, so I am content with at least getting silvers in them. Rally sucks, BTW, and all rally cars on offer are almost one million credits.drevil

I can't find an old-ass japanese car for the life of me to do the cIassic japanese event. And everything besides some of the special events yields a laughable amount of money. Great looking stuff (most of the times), obnoxious, annoying game design choices, amazing driving, rage-inducing time requirements... Yup, it's a GT game alright, with everything that is good and bad about the series cranked up to eleven.

You can only win the special races once, though, right? So there is a lot of money there but once it's gone, it's gone. And yeah, no golds in licenses for me. Actually, I refused to even redo licenses where I knew I could get a silver in another try or two, so all of my license medals were earned on my first try. I realize there are car rewards for getting all silver and all gold, but from the list I saw the rewards weren't particularly impressive.

Once only. I thought I could do some go-kart grinding a while back since that was the only one that I actually got gold in both beginner and intermediate, but that would have been too easy.

I'll probably make it to level 20 and check out the rest of the races. If things end up becoming too much of a grind, then I'll just stop it there and stick to some online, and there's not way I'm going to try and gold anything. I'm content with silver at least.

By the way, what's the point of the liscence tests if the only requirements are the kind of car you can use? For trophies? I'm certainly glad that I don't have to worry about those anymore at least.

Mostly cars. Historically, the GT games have always had some pretty neat cars as rewards for high level licenses. Dunno about GT5, though. I can safely say at least the silver rewards are nothing to write home about.

Well I did just get a Veyron for golding Pro series. And the prize for Golding/silvering IC licenses arent too shaby, a nice concept car with 400 horse and another cool looking car. Not everything is about performance, some cars are more for collecting.

how the hell did you gold the last pro race? which car did you use? i can only gold the first and last races in that event and fail miserably in the other three.

Bought myself a Caterham that showed up in the used dealer because, well, they're awesome. 140hp and 400kg. Unfortunately, they're not so awesome in game. For some reason mine takes at least ten seconds to hit 60mph as first gear is incredibly long. I shouldn't have to go and buy myself a fancy transmission to edit - not with that car. It's really weird.

Awesome pics  Dez did you get the trophy for that? I should start taking pics, the game is incredible looking.

@Solid: I used a modified 458 with racing hard/medium tires, cant remember. You don't have to win every race in the championship, you just have to get the most points. I did the IC rally license and I am starting to get used to the Rally physics. Its pretty damn awesome actually with the slower cars. I can actually drift around corners and it looks very real in replay.

I used the GTR V-Spec '09. I love that car. I had mine around 700something horsepower, plus lightening it and having the fully customizable transmission. It was overkill if anything, but a lot of fun.
