I bought the one I used. It sucked, but it got the job done. I didn't realize that sharing a car meant anyone could use it. I thought you had to gift a car in order for someone to be able to use it. I know your pain on the Nurburgring stuff. It is a heartbreaker to get so close to that medal and not get it. I finally got all silvers on the intermediate one earlier today.rragnaar

you are right. at first i just uploaded them on my profile but i just read on gaf that sharing your car doesn't mean anyone can take it. you do have to gift it. Still, just ask and you shall receive. Dont sell it for credits though. lol, give it to someone else or back to me in case i need it later.

I was able to silver all the sections plus full track on Advanced without any problem. But for some reason, i just fall a few seconds short on Beginner and Intermediate every time when racing the full track.

Playing GT5 feels like meeting an old friend again, after a long time. And it was a long time. I played the first two extensively, but not having owned a PS2 in its heyday, I missed both GT3 and GT4. So getting back to the franchise to find its trademark staples intact and at the same time pushing more visual flair and features than ever before feels like coming back home.

This game didn't give me a good first impression in the beginning, what with the long loading times even after installation and uneven presentation, but I'm really starting to warm up to it now. In fact, I'm starting to remember how I got so addicted to GT in the first place when it comes to buying and tuning your collection of cars. I'm starting to unlock more races and I've been trying out those event challenges, so it feels like there's a lot more to do. Those challenges offer a nice change of pace: go kart racing, nascar driving, the bus thing on the air strip. They're hard as hell and I'm barely scraping by with a bronze, but they're pretty fun, especially using the kart. I managed to come in 1st in the intermediate races and got myself 30K in credits, and level up once per race!

Solid, yeah I was talking about the cockpit view, but I couldn't find the right words when I was typing that. Only 200 premium cars huh? Does the "realistic" damage only apply to premium cars, too? Nothing ever seems to get damaged, but I'm only level 9 so far and just moved away from the amateur races and started the next tier.

I can see why people coming off Forza 3 wont enjoy this as much, but a racing simulation every 9 years seems to do it for me. :P

Damage supposedly unlocks after level 20, but not every premium car has damage. I am only a couple of Golds away from level 20 so I should probably be able to test this myself today.

I do like how fast you level up in those Special Events. You not only gain insane XP, but also the cash bonus for Silver and Bronze on top of getting the cash for Gold. I am now getting 100K for getting Golds in every Special Events challenge. BTW, completing Championship races gives a championshipbonus on top of thebonus you get for eachrace. I just got 100Kjust for winning the championship.

God... that Miata race was about the dumbest thing ever. I hated that I had to put money into my car to beat it.rragnaar

lol I am the complete opposite, i dont bother entering events unless I have a 200HP advantage over the other cars. :P

Nasty, I don't think I've ever had an HP advantage in a race, maybe once or twice. The most I put into a car is oil change and racing air filter, I just choose a car that will be competitive. My Ferrrai 512 BB is struggling against the Muira but its very intense. I'm up for some online racing after 9 EST.

I do the same thing with granting myself an advantage in races - though not a huge one.

I generally buy the first weight reduction, a racing air filter, and the controller chip upgrade. That's about $6500 in upgrades for a modest horsepower and handling boost.

Although it's really bizarre the game lets you buy that electronics modification for older cars. I mean, how can I tinker with a '61 Jaguar's computer system to gain a 15hp boost from altering the timing?

edit - and no brake upgrades, which is weird.

I stick to the cheapest upgrades to give myself a slight boost in the races, because I'm switching cars all around and I'm trying to conserve enough money for the next car I have my eye on. All of the cars definitely have a unique feel from one another, maybe I shouldn't be changing around so much because I adjust to one car and have a hard time maneuvering with the next. I'm mostly getting bronze trophies for races and challenges, but I'm not that good with racing games and I'm not going to sweat it this time around. For some of those event challenges, bronze feels enough like a victory for me.

I'd also like to try some races with you guys as well, if it's possible. I haven't tried any online racing so.

The first time you tackle those challenges, a bronze is indeed a victory, but if you go back and give em a couple of trys you will see that they aren't that hard. I got golds in all the Nascar challenges (beginner and intermediate) after maybe an hour or so. one good thing with those challenges is that they are only 13 seconds long with no loading during restarts. I'd say definitely try at least the Nascar ones, they are very doable. You might even learn a few things about the game's physics, they are more forgiving than you'd think.

I refuse to even try the top gear challenges, that lotus is a pos. But the Nurburgring challenges are a lot of fun once you learn the tracks. You dont need to go back to them right away, you will be racing on it at least four times. On my Advanced run (third time through) i started recognizing some of the turns and other unique streches in each section. Got Silver on Advanced (full track) on my first try. I went back and redid all the previous levels and was able to get Silvers after just a few tries. Still need to get silver on the full track for beginner and Advanced but i'd say Silver is very doable. You also get 5000 EXP for each race which really helps leveling up when you get close to Level 20. (you'll need to accumulate 45,000 EXP after you reach level 19 just to get to level 20)

p.S the last kart race is a b****. It's impossible.

Just had some great races with Steel. The online lobby is actually pretty cool. All i had to do was join Steel's lobby and it took me to a room where we could set up tracks, chat, free roam or race. Very cool.

it looks like its restricted to arcade.

but there was an option to play with cars under your favorites tab, that's how we selected the Go Kart. It wasn't under the arcade vehicle selection.

I have a question about something in Spec-B mode. Ok, so I made my driver and have been racing with him for a while now. I'm currently at level 5 with him but I just noticed that he has an orange arrow pointing in the south-east direction. What does this mean? Could it be fatigue?

Joystiq really liked it. I caved in and got Playstation Plus in hopes that most PSN games will be a little cheaper. I just need to save $4.00 a month to cover the cost, and hopefully I'll get into the LBP2 beta.
