they still dont look all that convincing to me. Every video and every screenshot with his hands make them look so blurry and unappealing. Thats actually the best screen you'll find of them

Not everything. And I don't flame them. If I were flaming (trolling), then I would have been moderated for it already as this forum has heavy moderation. I criticise games because and when I see things to criticise. To see the Wii games I am looking forward to, check my Tracked Games List.

I was at PAX today and got a chance to play a demo level of The Conduit, and while I'm not sure what I was expecting, I have to say that I was actually kind of impressed. I don't think that you really get the real meat of the game from screenshots and videos and whatnot. The controls were definitely closer to Metroid Prime 3 than to Red Steel, and the environment, while still needing polish, were actually not half bad in action. I came away from it feeling that the game has the potential to be much better than I previously thought.GabuEx

After what I saw today - the demo level had a cool mission briefing thing at the start and then thrust the player into the level to kill some baddies and fight a boss and such like - I do actually think that the people hyping it as a possible AA or AAA game have at least some merit to do so. If the game keeps going down the direction it looks like the it's taking and if it gets multiplayer just right, I think it has real potential to be a really fun game.

The game is in development, which is why there is a bit of graphical inconsistency at screenies we have right now. Some are from early dev, some later, yet the images still get released together in a clump for the press. Quite clearly, the nice hand pic is from later development.

ok, i've seen lots of comments in this thread ONLY talking about how the game looks.

and i don't really care how it looks.

The Conduit is sweet because its the first FPS on Wii that looks like fun. And we need a good FPS on wii because the wiimote is the best controller available for playing FPSs. there you have it!

One of course when your watching vids of off screen footage of youtube the game will awful, but games never look as good watching vids online than they do in person. I remeber personally watching Mario Galaxy vids and Twilight Princess vids online, and then seeing them in person for the first time at the Nintendo World Store. Major difference there, secondly the environments arent top of the line, but remember this is the Wii, they can do but so much. I would rather them focus on teh character models, guns, and effects things that are at the forefront of my attention, than trying to be a jack of all trades with limited resources. If this were a 360 or PS3 game than yes that is a valid point or even attempting to be an atmospheric game but its a genric action paced FPS on the Wii.

Now I'm not saying like gamers will be blown away by the story, or that this title will innovate the FPS genre, because both are likely incorrect. It looks no different gameplay wise from your Halo's, Perfect Dark, and every other generic sci fi shooter. Simply put if you like going around blasting things, it looks like a fun game with good visuals, simple as that. All the love like its the next Zelda is crazy and all the hate by nitpicking and attacking it because its part of a tried and true genre is equally as pointless.

Sadly no, that gun wasn't in the demo level. The only guns they had were the pistol, the machine gun, that alien gun that you load balls into, and this one pistol that you can charge up and shoot two shots at the same time.

Also, to the people arguing over whether the hand looks good... to be honest I think that that's really quibbling over stuff that won't actually matter as far as the game goes. The reloading sequence takes like one single second, if that. Your brain doesn't even have time to register what the hand really looks like, especially given that you're probably not going to be staring at it going "hey I wonder if the hand looks graphically good". If I really stared at the environments, I did notice that they were still lacking polish, but to be honest it didn't really matter because the game was pretty fast-paced as far as battling with enemies went.

I laugh at those high-res RS screens they showed everyone before launch. Didn't look anywhere close to that even with Component Cables.

I personally can't wait to play this game, it looks pretty fast paced to me, and I just want a good old shooter that isn't WW2 related.

HV said that they wont be using Motion +. Even I dont believe this news

Ya, I think I remember that. What on earth? GameSpot isn't a little startup website trying to get traffic by posting info from dubious sources though. They must have said, "yes, we plan to support it" at PAX. I guess it was just an internal decision to go for it, but from what it says, it doesn't seem like they've started to work it in yet. I hope it doesn't turn out tacked on, but then I also hope you can play the game without it, otherwise, they're limiting their sales.

I agree. It'd be completely pointless for HV to use Motion+ in The Conduit. Unless they're planning to put in alien energy sword fighting or something. But if there's no swords, then The Conduit would still work fine without the Motion+.

this game is really.. i dont know how to say in english sorry, but in spanish is polemico, that means it gives a lo to discuss form both good sides and bad sides, good side: someone is actually taking serously a FPS for the wii, nce cotrols, exclusve! bad side: may be overhyped, is it only me or the grphics are each time looking blander...

IGN Voice Chat podcast - Conduit info summary (online co-op and sequel?)

- The Conduit is still at pre-alpha, working pretty heavily on multiplayer. About six months of development left to refine and polish. Single-player campaign has a lot done, you can play through the entire game right now. The core is done, working on details. Making sure everything looks and plays as good as it can.

- The Conduit has had full funding all the way through the project, thus High Voltage was not rushing to get a publisher. High Voltage is very close to announcing the publisher for The Conduit, should come in the next month.


- Eric Nofsinger says we should be very excited about their publisher, High Voltage weighed the decision heavily. It's a "larger publisher." Deal with the publisher included that, when the publisher is announced, High Voltage will still continue to provide the press with coverage concerning The Conduit, will push to start on the sequel right away. High Voltage was very choosey about the publisher for The Conduit.

- If High Voltage couldn't do certain things right, they didn't include them. Want everything to be high quality. For example, vehicles just couldn't be done in the first game, will try to have it the second time around. High Voltage wants to make The Conduit as good an experience as the game can be.

- Pretty much everything is customizable in The Conduit. Movable UI interface should be up soon. Move grenade icons, weapon readouts to wherever you desire on the screen.

- High Voltage has upped the run speed, have been playing around with the analog stick from walk to run. Exploring the option of sprint. Land-locked on buttons, something on High Voltage's to-do list.

- Since The Conduit, Eric Nofsinger has been getting a ton of fan email. Hand-written letters with envelope art, too.

- Have been working on LAN play with Nintendo. Haven't gotten final approval yet, so nothing official. It is functioning in-house. High Voltage is excited about this as an option. High Voltage has had 12 player LAN play hooked up so far, will support 16 players on release.

- Online mode: Standard deathmatch, team deathmatch, CTF. Depending on how long some of these things take, but High Voltage is interested in adding more modes.

- So far, High Voltage has tested with about 13 people, hoping to test with 16 soon. Frame-rate held up really tightly during gameplay. No significant lag. Goal is to hit rock-solid 30 FPS, never dib. High Voltage is aware that there needs to be minimal lag for FPS titles.

- Even if you own a 360 or PS3, you should be excited about The Conduit about the controls. Obviously the team wants beautiful graphics and want to put out a core game for the Wii, but still want to deliver a different experience. It immediately feels like a new way to interact with a FPS. Closer to a PC experience, especially with customizable controls. Fixes the learning curve with dual analog setup.

- PAX build is 3-4 weeks old, AI has taken a step forward. People will be happy about the behaviors of the enemies.

- WiiSpeak and MotionPlus have NOT been confirmed. High Voltage is getting their development kits early in September. WiiSpeak seems like a more obvious fit, will try MotionPlus. If it's a tack-on, High Voltage won't use. It needs to add to the gameplay and make a better experience, but will make every effort to get it in there if it makes sense.

- High Voltage is even looking at things like the Wii balance board and determining if it makes sense. Joke about how sprint mode can be used by running on the balance board.

- WiiSpeak is pretty feasible for The Conduit. Again, High Voltage will have a better idea once the dev kits arrive. Seems like an obvious fit, especially with online.

- Art/tech over the past few months have been improved. A couple of more improvements are coming down the pipe. One of the big recent additions is depth of field (scope mode.) Put cursor over target will become focus, things in foreground/background will go out of focus. Dynamic lighting has been improved. Starting to look night and day.

- Splitscreen multiplayer mode probably not in this version (probably not enough time, other reasons), have been exploring some ideas of cooperative mode. High Voltage has been looking at other things that core gamers will appreciate.

A more sensible way would be with a wrist rotation, but I think that would get annoying.

The environments still need some work...

But i still think this is looking like a solid AA title to me.

That's what my prediction is too. HVS really needs to try and make the environments as impressive looking as their enemies and the weapon models....because they really do need some work. Still, they're finished the single player campaign; now they can use the next 6 months to work on the multiplayer while polishing up the graphics.
