Netflix said they'll no longer carry HDDVD disks, the format is officially dead.

Now customers can stop getting screwed over by both format owners and just spend money on one.

I question anyone's sanity who bought a stand alone player for either format, they were just a pawn in the game.

The thing is, when it comes time to blame someone for susie's starvation problem its the media's fault but when it comes time to blame joe for his alcholism its joe's stinkin fault.

The media played a role in both of them but it only got blamed for one of them. Yes the media is a factor but it only tells us what we already think is good looking... its not like they said "Hey lets put all these skinny girls on TV and eventually everyone will love skinny girls"... they instead said "hey I want to make tons and tons of money off my ads, so Im going to pick good looking people for my ad"

If this were anywhere other than the Off-Topic Lounge I'd be challening you right now. But this is supposed to be a happy place, so all I'll say is that I know a lot of men who think that skinny girls look God-awful, and the media is the one who continues to portray "beauty" as skinny.

But I agree with your point about how alcoholism is not blamed on the media as it should be if eating disorders are (not entirely, but they do have an affect on people).

In either case it is not 100% to blame and it is not 0% to blame, its somewhere in the middle

If there were no ads at all in the world girls would still be worried about their body image, they will always want to compete with other girls to look better, whatever societies standard is. I understand that with the view of being skinny is prettier is very dangerous if a girl really tries to be as skinny as she can be. If the standard was something else then that would be phyisically heathier but mentally it would stay the same... either way they will still try to obtain whatever they see as pretty to such an extreme they wont be able to reach it and that is where poor body image comes from.

The media is to blame for making them want to be so skinny they are sick but its not to blame for them wanting to look "prettier", that would happen either way.
