I always loved great American singers as Michael Jackson , Madonna , Tupac Shakur ETC . Even Backstreet Boys . Whole World used to love those artists .

No offense to American's , for god's sake ... whats wrong with American music nowadays ???

Why American music industry hyping and promoting worst singers as Justin Beiber , Lady Gaga , Rebecca Black and Lil Wayne ? What happened to finding real talents and promoting them instead ?

Thoughts ?

True, but neither is Justin Bieber. Both fairly popular here so I'll count it.

Don't listen to it if you don't like it. Pop acts are there to make money. There's plenty of really great music out there.

You call Backstreet Boys "great American singers" and then lament the state of modern music?

I'm a little confused.

People seem to forget that the music industry is a business. Most of the time they know what will sell. You could be an amazing singer. That's great. But.... what else do you have going for you? What makes you stand out from the rest of the millions of people asking for record deals? That's how they see it. Not only that, you have to know someone in the business or get very lucky. Even though there are tons of talented bands/singers out there, some of them are really boring. Record companies want people that will last.

That the bigeest reason why mainstream music is the way it is(crap). Music as an art doesn't mean jack if it's not producing the cash. It makes me hate the "artists" that only care about the money and fame a little more than my normal hatred for them.

Yeah, that's right, I hate some music "artists" out there, and it feels good.8)

Oh wow. One live song. I meant in their cd's where they are autotuned to death. Like all of the rap where they sound mechanical too.

She sang okay there, although I can't stand the voice. Doesn't mean it's bad. They guy from dream theatre has a good voice, I just can't stand the sound of it.

You aren't being very consistent here. Are we talking about talent or your opinion of the music? Talent has nothing to do with whether or not you like the result. See also:

I wouldn't say artists aren't talented today, I would just say that the sty|e they are using (and auto-tune) makes the music bad. Not to mention I can't think of one popular song that has any depth at all in the past few years.

Yeah, probably wasn't a good idea for them to come back even if they had some decent stuff. They will always be remembered as the kids who sung "Mmm bop" and nothing else of value. Haha.

I can only think of one Gaga song where auto tune is obvious and thats Starstruck. If you're attacking artists for using auto tune I would look elsewhere because Gaga really isn't the best example.

the pop of 60's and 70's was just as ----y as the pop of today.comp_atkins

60's-70s had Motown though. I don't see anything in today's pop scene that even comes close to the songwriting quality than characterized Motown back in the day.

Granted, there was alot more crappy pop in the 60, 70s and 80s than people will care to admit (we just don't remember it because it hasn't stood the test of time), but it seems like so many pop artists (or their "people") can't write a strong melody worth a **** these days.

ColonelVodka

Wow, do you expect to be taken seriously? What music do you like? Pop is 'popular' for a reason. Youre saying The Beatles suck? The Smiths suck? The Killers suck? The Stones? Bob Dylan? Radiohead? Saying" 'pop' has never been good and never will" is the dumbest blanket statement I have ever read in a music discussion thread.
